Upcoming Ubisoft titles seemingly removed from Steam worldwide [edit: they're back]

I know which games I won't be purchasing on PC then...

I guess none of my friends will buy them either since they also stopped purchasing EA titles when they moved all of them to Origin.

Playing Titanfall felt so ronery.

The press release is going to be a fascinating read, that's for sure. I can't wait, to be honest. I find this move interesting.

Well that's a lot. So they have to sell 2/3 of what they sold on Steam to get the same amount of money. Looks like they are confident that they can achieve that. Or they said "at least lets try this with these upcomming games".

30% seems to be the standard for digital retailers, whether you are talking about Steam, Apple, Google, or other game distributors. In the end, the publishers are still getting a lot more money back than they would through B&M retailers.

I do question how smart of a move this is for Ubisoft. Unlike EA, I don't really feel they have any properties that are so big (i.e. Battlefield) that they can get away with shutting out the biggest digital store for the type of games they make. Unless Settlers and Anno (assuming they plan on making future versions of these games) are a lot bigger in Europe than I expected.

The Big Three always delivers with anti-consumer shit

EA, Ubisoft and Activison have a special place in hell, I know it

This is useless if you haven't had Origin open in a recent time span, as it is true for any other client / service. I would have this issue with Steam, if it wasn't for the fact that I end up using Steam Chat and games fairly regularly. I do have this issue with blizzard's Battlenet

So The Division, Rainbow 6, all these titles going forward will be through UPlay?

Gah. I can't wait until Square Enix has their own platform full of F2P goodies, and Activision decides if you want to play CoD you'll need another platform.

I think I got used to Origin, because it felt like I only had to do it for EA games. I'm waiting fo other major publishers to start going on their own- we'll have >5 clients! HOORAY :/
Every one wants a piece of that Steam pie.

I hope this trend doesn't continue.
This just makes me not want to play Ubi games because I sure as hell am not going to want to use manage 3 accounts.
Eventually it's going to be a case of "oh I want to play X game, shit which platform was that on."

Told ya in the other topic that this was happening.

People always say "nah, it is a slippery slope, stop fear mongering", then shit like this happens.

PC gaming is popular not because of console games, it is popular because of PC games. These publishers messing around with their console ports ultimately isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of the PC gaming market, they typically fail to get near the most popular PC games.

Sucks. I already forget I own games on Origin let alone any other client. I let Steam open automatically since I have all my friends on there. Origin gets opened specifically when needed. UPlay I don't necessarily mind but again it's just going to sit on the wayside.

I'm kind of boggled by the timing of this. I'm not surprised by the action but the timing is just.... strange. What are they going to do with all the Steam pre-orders?

How could it be profitable if sales drop a lot ?

They won't. The world is not GAF.
Do you really think sales are gonna drop when they're launching the new AC? You think the AC fans are not gonna buy it just because it isn't on steam? They got leverage and consumers don't have a really strong will, don't they? Maybe, just maybe, pc sales will go down.
And they won't have to give a share to steam.

Why are you guys so surprised that this happened? It's also been profitable for EA. It was the absolute most logical thing to do.

What's the big deal?

No doubt those games will start up Uplay when you launch them from Steam.

Are people having trouble running both Steam and Uplay at the same time?

Good luck with that Ubi, doubt I'll be buying anything from you for a while, unoptimized console games and now PC games stuck on your shitty uplay platform.

I do wonder given how crap they claim their PC sales are due to piracy how well they'll fare now with them not being on steam even if they don't have to give steam that 30% cut.

Yeah this is what I think Ubisoft is missing. They don't have any big franchise that caters to the PC crowd. AC is big on consoles but not on PC. At least EA had battlefield and Sims.

Can't blame them for wanting to create their own service and reap more of the benefits for their games....if that's the case. Still sucks for consumers wanting their PC games under the same easy to navigate platform.

Ah well....i'm a console gamer till i die anyways! =D

Removed for me too. Expect Warner Bros to do the same with their games: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/new...r-Bros-Top-Secret-Digital-Distribution-System

Expect Steam to go back to its original days with Half-Life and Counter-Strike only games -_-

Again WB have a lot of content that they will do this with such as TV, Music, Movies and Streaming Content (what is actually mentioned in the first place) , that doesn't necessarily include games. If it did, that requires very different infrastructure. If they did though, there is no telling if it would be via this service or both. The current WBID system in Arkham Origins for example, has been very reliable though, so I am more open to it

PC gamers are growing tired of the continual fragmentation of the digital download market. An avid PC gamer is stuck juggling a half a dozen different clients now if they want to play most games.

GoG galaxy is possibly the answer to fragmentation, should that be the overwhelming direction of the industry

People want all of their PC games on a single client because of convenience and also Uplay is complete garbage so being forced to buy and play games on it kinda sucks

I get the uPlay being garbage bit. But I don't think steam should have an automatic right to every game. They are a competitor are they not?

I don't think that's true. They make enough money on PC to justify putting their games on PC, or they would have stopped that long ago.

Do you think they're going to make as much money after taking the games off Steam?

Are we all just making assumptions here? It seems it could potentially be a mistake on the part of Ubisoft, or they're changing something and putting the games back on Steam.

There's this weird thing some people believe that publishers don't really want to make PC games. I'm not sure why they actually do it if that's the case, no one is holding a gun to their head - yet they still do it.

This idea crops up quite a bit, that publishers don't want people to buy the PC versions of their games.

Maybe they pulled them temporarily because they're pulling uPlay from all of their titles.

Who am I kidding, this is because of PS4 firmware update 2.0.

Valve doesn't restrict any publisher to launch their games only on steam. Hell they have their own games on multiple stores. But EA and Ubisoft are actively trying to restrict their games on their client which is shitty. This isn't healthy competition.

I haven't bought any EA games for PC since origin was forced so I guess I won't buy any more Ubisoft games for PC from now on then.

And nothing of value was lost.

But seriously, did Ubisoft say they would stop trying to force uPlay on consumers? I seriously think I recall someone from Ubisoft saying that....maybe early this year or late last year?
