Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri has been killed in a drone strike in Kabul, according to reports in the US.
“Over the weekend, the United States conducted a counterterrorism operation against a significant Al-Qaeda target in Afghanistan,” a senior administration official said in a statement.
‘The operation was successful and there were no civilian casualties,” the official added.
Al-Zawahiri, 71, who was regarded as the successor to Osama Bin Laden, has appeared on the FBI’s most wanted list.

He is wanted for the murder of American citizens outside the US.
The operation represents the most successful CIA operation since the killing of Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan in May 2011.
President Joe Biden will give a speech “on a successful counterterrorism mission” at 7.30pm (12.30am Tuesday UK).
More to follow.

Does this mean US Drones are gonna be cancelled next?

"No civilian casualties"

Very misleading to say this just because that 1 drone strike didn't murder civilians. What about the other bullets, bombs and drones used in other days chasing down this terrorist?

Too bad we can't discuss politics. I would like to hear GAF opinions about the amazing withdrawal from Afghanistan.

On topic: a good terrorist is a dead terrorist!

Defeating al-qaeda creates some semblance of peace, there’s a lot of bad blood.

Yeah that bladed missile is pretty dope. It may seem monstrous but designed to limit bystander civilian casualties from a standard explosive payload.

Can't even imagine what the aftermath would look like... how the hell could they even identify the body? I'd assume there would be nothing left but just blood and tissue lying in a pile on the ground.

Would love to see the details on how they tracked his location. The intelligence aspect of these operations always are so interesting to me. All the work that goes into it.
