Using the same pan to cook multiple times?

Status
Not open for further replies.
To be honest, this doesnt just apply to pans.

Like...when you cook don't you use a bunch of tools like spatulas, tongs, measuring cups, etc? So do you wash all of those "manually" after each use too?

This is why people don't like to cook btw..such a hassle

Yes, with a sponge and soap and it takes literal minutes, possible a single minute. Run hot water, soap the sponge, sponge the utensils, rinse the utensils. Done and done in less time than loading a dishwasher.

It takes like, 10 minutes to wash up after cooking man.

I have to ask: How old are you?

Also, a good tip is to clean while you cook. As soon as you are done using something, wash it. Then, after dinner, wash the last of the pans and what not.

Literally takes 20 seconds at most if your pan is non-stick. A brush is like 8 dollars and soap is about 2 dollars.

Where do you put all this stuff after you manually wash it? Won't it get water everywhere? You can't put it in the dishwasher with all the dirty dishes or do I need a countertop dish rack....uggh

now I think you're just messing with me, and I'm the stupid one ='(

Just in case you're not joking (and it's fine if you're not), just dry them with a towel or get a dish rack and put them away later. Worst comes to worst, wash ALL the dirty dishes and keep them clean in the dishwasher before putting them up, if you want to be that guy.

Yeah, you dry them with a towel or buy a rack. It's not complicated, dude.

I`m just going to pretend that you`re not trolling and say that you put them onto a drying rack.

This is a drying rack.

Just go to the dollar store and buy a case of shitty pans and spatulas. You can throw them away after every use!

I'm really not down with doing all this work in-between each time I cook, so I'll just throw it into the dishwasher or cook less. My original question was just if it's ok if I reuse the pan multiple times in a row since I figured bacteria would be killed during the cooking anyway

Is using a dishwasher really such an outlandish concept?

No, that's what I plan on doing, but I wasn't sure if you have to run it if you're going to do breakfast in the morning and then dinner later that day

Do people really think this cunt can't figure out where to dry a wet pan? This is some cunt giving the cooking-gaf equivalent of SOME GIRL SIAD WE CYD HAV SX, SILD I DY IT?

You can wash and dry (with a towel) a non-stick pan in less than a minute. I'm sure of it.

No, he's serious.

Dude, calm down. No need to be so rude about it.

Most people own more than two pans.

What's your problem? I only use my dishwasher to wash dishes. I don't have a drying rack because I don't need one, my dishwasher dries it and then I unload my dried dishes into the cabinet and repeat

At first I was annoyed, then I was helpful, now I feel dumb. It's like Sonic-cycle.

Use the dishwasher to put them in to dry if you don't want to get a rack. That'd work fine.

If you can't, when presented with the problem of "you have a wet pan" figure out "how do I dry a wet pan", you should be ridiculed. It's wet! It dries! Fuck!

EDIT: grammar

It seems slightly outlandish that you are not aware of the use of towels as a means to dry dishes. His problem is you're either completely moronic, or a troll. Either way you seem to have offended him.

I'd apologize.

It just seems really wasteful to use the dishwasher that often. I really only uses when I have to make a big meal and there`s tons of stuff that needs washing.

How about you hand wash the dishes. Don't worry about a towel or rack to dry them. Put them in the dishwasher and either let them sit or just turn on the drying cycle. Problem solved.

Thank you, sir, for realizing that it's normal for one human to assume that another human realizes that dry towels when applied to wet shit dry said shit.

(but really, thanks. but don't apologize, he's either a troll or is the kind of idiot that watches when they do the seatbelt instructions on airplanes)

I was not aware that people use towels to hand-dry dishes. I've never done that before. However I have rinsed off items and placed it in a dishwasher so I assume you do the same thing except with a countertop rack, which I don't have because I just use my dishwasher like I've said several times.

This just reinforces my thought that manually cleaning stuff inbetween each cooking session is a lot of work.

I'm sorry if I offended anyone

I agree, that's why this thread. The problem is that I only have two pans but I'm starting to learn how to cook and the cleanup is a big question mark for me. Was wondering how other people deal with it

i'm so glad my family taught me that trick.

I take my stainless steel from heat and pour a bit of water in it, once it's done smoking I take a rag and wipe it out. It's clean. It takes 15 seconds. Add 10 seconds if you want to dry it. Non-stick pans I'll use soap and water for, which adds another 10-15 seconds. That's 25-40 seconds total to wash and dry a pan.

If you don't have 25-40 seconds to spare, then you need to sit down and re-evaluate the decisions you've made up to this point.

It's not really "a lot of work", especially if you're just cooking a single serving meal for yourself. Like 5 minutes of clean up.

I don't even have a dishwasher or a drying rack. Good lord. lol.

But it's not a lot of work if you just have a few supplies. Either a towel or a countertop rack to dry the dishes that you clean with soap, water and a dish brush. Heck, you really don't even need the soap since bacteria will most likely be killed. You just need to have a couple of things, and it will only take you like 20-30 seconds to clean your pan. You're making it out to be a bigger deal than it actually is.

so this is a joke thread?

I don't know why everyone thinks this is a joke or troll. Here are my posts and threads talking about me learning to cook and my concerns with cleanup, one of the barriers of entry to getting started with cooking:

You just need to get your cooking process down. Make it more efficient. Instead of standing there watching your food cook, go wash something you`re not going to use again.

If your goal is to cook, then learn to clean.

Otherwise you're fucked.

I'm honestly a bit shocked that you have given cooking this much thought, but still don't appear to understand the most basic concepts behind it.

Just go to Target/Walmart and spend $100 on a full set of pots and pans, cleaning supplies, and a basic cookbook.

You're an adult, so it's time to start acting like one. Learning how to cook and clean for yourself is a major part of that.

Yup! Multitasking in the kitchen makes everything feel like it's moving faster anyway.

The op makes my brain hurt.

Using a sponge and soap isn't a BARRIER of any sort, especially for cooking. It's just goddamned common sense. You take a sponge, apply water/soap, scrub dish(es), and then dry with a towel/rack. It takes 20 seconds per item. THE END.

oh snap, you made the thread about grilled cheese with mayo!

yeah, i switched to Mayo and i ain't evaaaaa going back.

but yeah, what other people have been saying... wash stuff when you have free time during the cooking process. there's usually lots of downtime.

I know. So far I've ordered a cookbook from Amazon:

I still have to invest in a full cooking set, so that's my next step, it's just hard to plunk down $100 for random various things I don't need yet or know what they're for. But I know I'll have to eventually get it. It always scares me when I look in a target or whatever catalog and it's like $500 for a set of pans and pots. I'm like who the hell spends that kind of money on cookware?

I know there's a lot of cleanup involved so that's why I was looking for some sort of shortcut to minimize it. Like simply reusing the pan for consecutive meals.

Yea, grilled cheese is the only dish I know so far...lol. I'm making bacon and eggs now though.

So what happened was I wanted to make bacon and eggs for breakfast, and then grilled cheese for dinner today...hence this thread.

You don`t need a whole set of pots and pans. Those things are usually a bad deal. Find a good pot and buy it, same thing with pans.

I want to say to the OP that I didn't mean to be a dick if he was serious. Getting into cooking is awesome and healthy in a lot of ways, so if I took some basic questions as jokes, I apologize. Cook some mad shit for yourself, man.

(Unless you were joking, in which case you're a CUNT CUNT CUNT CUNT CUNTHOLE of a CUNT, so fuck you)
