The "general industrial vacation" (Industrisemestern) starts on Monday here in Sweden, where most industries more or less shut down for 4 weeks for people to enjoy their mandatory 4 week vacation.

So what are your plans?

I plan on catching up on some games, enjoy the sun, drink beer and just relax. Do whatever I feel like doing.
My vacation is shifted 2 weeks though (by my own wishes), so I will have to report for duty for 2 more weeks, then I have 4 weeks off. I thought about taking 5 weeks but its nice to have some days saved for the future.

Are the mandatory vacations staggered across industries in Sweden?

I am from/in the US so don't really have a concept of how things function if everyone is off at the same time. Xmas Day here is nightmare fuel if you need to get anything.

Same here - I went from 2010-2024 without any real vacation, finally said "fuck it" and whisked away to Japan for three weeks for some sunshine. Went back last year. Will probably head back this fall or next spring.

retired so now I will "slow travel" where you stay at a location for 3-6 months at a time depending on the country.

With everything going on (tariffs, prices, war etc.) I can't even imagine a vacation, if you take a vacation enjoy it.

I just took a 5 weeks long trip to Japan and Hong Kong back in April, so I won't be going anywhere for a while. but a friend of mine had been talking about doing a trip to Vietnam next year near October or so. might tag along with him and go check the place out if things line up right.

Week 28-31 the industry generally closes. I work in it and if you order something you better account for those weeks because it will effect your delivery times. Shops are of course open.

Some people choose to delay (like me) or take out vacation early just to avoid all the other vacationers because places can get crowded.

That sounds kinda of awesome actually. Just people outside or doing relaxing stuff around a bunch of other people doing the same.

Do retail or food workers have a similar vacation timing?
