Valkyria Chronicles 3 [PSP] Fan Translation

Been following this one for a number of years, so glad someone took the time to bring this to us.

If your PSP battery has died I'm pretty sure the PPSSPP emulator will handle VC3, as it seems to have literally been built for VC2.

Apparently there will be a JP Sega sale starting on the 19th. Valkyria 3 will go down from 2500yen to 980yen.

Will the PSN version work with this patch (I'm a little confused about the "E2" and "extra" editions, which one is the PSN version and which one is the patch for)? I assume I can download the PSN version onto my PC (via Media Go) and extract the ISO to patch it (when the patch becomes available) and then play it on the PPSSPP emulator?

On the PPSSPP compatibility list is states that movies don't play for VC3. Is that fixed in later versions (and how badly does it affect the game?) and are there any other problems with the emulator for this game?

There is a standard version of the game and the Extra/E2 version which has the DLC included. They said the patch will support both versions, so I assume that means the DLC is getting translated too.

Not sure about any of your other questions.

OK, thanks for the info. It looks like the version getting the discount on PSN is the "Extra" version, but as long as it works on both then that's fine. I'd got the impression from somewhere that the patch wouldn't work on the standard version, but that seems to be wrong.

EDIT: It looks like the first release won't support the original edition (here)? Something to do with memory and file size limitations in the original version that were relaxed in the "extra" release.

Another update about what will be included in the forthcoming release here.

Essentially it won't be a 100% completed release and will not include any of the DLC as yet. There will be perhaps be a few instances of some things being untranslated but on the whole it should be mostly playable.

Well I'll be...jam it into my bones, please. I need to go charge my psp, or download the psp emulator or something. I should have the UMD around here somewhere...

I'm so ready for this. I've been ready for this.

Just tell me where to shoot.

So where is the cheapest place to get a copy?

I just picked up a used copy (supposed to be full, mint, original japanese release) on eBay for 25$ shipping included. You might want to try that!

I have no idea how to legally patch this thing and play it on my PSP or Vita though, I'll have to look into that >_>.

It-It's happening?! As much as I wanted to retire my old fat PSP (currently enjoying dat OLED Vita screen), I still have some UMD games and VC3 is one of them! Already played the story, but an (almost) full translation is much more preferable to winging it on the Japanese.

Next, official release!
Yeah, who am I kidding it ain't happening.

I didn't even play the 2nd game, should I just skip it and dive into 3?

Yeah, it should be no problem. The VC2 characters all make appearances and you can use them in your squad but as VC3 takes place during 1 and before 2, there aren't any major spoilers regarding their appearances.
And I thought Avan's voice couldn't get any more annoying...

Will this work with the Extra Edition? I bought that version when I was in Tokyo last year. Also, what's the easiest way to get CFW on a PSP-2000?

I would skip the second one to be honest. Haven't played 3 yet but it definitely looks like the better game. VC2 is not a bad game but I didn't like the school setting and the random drops of credits which were needed for class changes were annoying as hell.

Yes, the Extra Edition will work just fine.

One of my friends is a big time VC fan and is looking to play this, once it drops. How will he be able to get the fan translation working?

They will put out instructions, it'll likely work the same as most other patches. Not sure if I can type the instructions here without tasting the ban hammer.

VC3 Extra Edition is now on sale in the Japanese PSN store for 980 yen. You can pick up JPN PSN codes from PlayAsia, I believe (haven't tried it myself yet but it seems to be instant delivery, no messing about with shipping). Dunno if anyone in this thread would know, but does Extra Edition include all the VC3 DLC, or are there still additional missions to buy to get everything?

The Extra Edition includes all DLC to my knowledge. It is also the only version the translation patch will initially work with.

I hope someone will spell out precisely how to do this for clueless technotards like me. I loved VC 1 & 2 and will go to great lengths to play 3 in English.

You can definitely extract downloaded PSN games (from Media Go) to get the EBOOT.PBP file (which lets it run in PPSSPP), but I don't know anything about fan translations so I don't know if that's enough?

If you need it to be in ISO format (I think I read that somewhere?), then there is a tool called npdpc (are we allowed to link to wololo.net forums? If so I can link to the post to download it.) that converts the EBOOT to an ISO. It works for VC2, so I assume it will also work for VC3, but hopefully someone with more knowledge can confirm?

I was counting on the PSN version working via this method since I don't have CFW on my PSP (and I share it with my brother so I can't just install it for this).

Installing CFW on a PSP-3000 is basically foolproof at this point. You essentially put the CFW on a memory stick and reboot the PSP, then run a program. If for any reason you ever need to boot back into the original firmware, just reboot the PSP; the default is to load the original. More details. I don't know about earlier PSP versions but my understanding is the process is very similar.

As people stated earlier in the thread, it is possible that the PSN version of VC3 will work fine with the translation patch, or there might be additional issues; it depends on the nature of the patch. Presumably you'll find out for sure once the patch is released, and the sale is on until January at least so you should have time if everything works out. Worst case: for fifteen bucks or so, it's not an awful amount of money to lose if it turns out you do need to import a physical copy. I'm considering buying a digital version even though I have a physical import on its way to me from Yesasia.

Seems the first version of the patch will be somewhat of a beta with some hiccups here and there.

Think I'll wait for a more final version.

Thanks for the details. I didn't know it was so simple nowadays. Hopefully the PSN version will work fine, but if not then I can go down that route instead.

I'll give the first version a try (if only to ensure that I've got it in case Sega start getting their lawyers involved), but whether I play it as-is or wait for a later version depends how basic it is. I've gone long enough thinking that it would never be translated that I'm happy to wait a bit longer to see it done properly!

The PSN version will definitely work fine, even if you have to decrypt it into an ISO to make it work.

I'll probably hold off until there is a less beta-ish patch. Even if they get shut down (extraordinarily unlikely as that is) once this sort of things hits the Internet it's never going to disappear completely.

Yes. I was waiting for this before I start the series again after 1 killed my Phat PS3. It's still stuck there :(

I got a question, do I need to play 2? Story related? Nothing?

Now all we need is FF Type-0 then we'll be done.

Two is probably not needed to play this game, since from what I can gather, this takes place alongside the first game
