IDK, I could see the point of view that unveiling at a console conference would be kinda of disingenuous towards the steam community, so maybe unveiling in GI and being platform agnostic is a better idea? Then have gameplay shown at Sony, or at least a trailer.

Valve revealing a game during another company's E3 conference isn't without precedent. They announced L4D2 during Microsoft's conference.

L4D has done pretty well on the consoles, so it wouldn't be a surprise for them to show 3 this year. Devs had reportedly moved out of the L4D3 group and into the HL3 group, so who knows how far along it is.

There's too much money on the table for them to be bitter if there was any lingering resentment over Portal 2.

I'm pretty sure that's actually what it will be if Valve shows up at Sony's presser. Actually, I find it really interesting how Blizzard and Valve have both shown up at E3's presser at some point. Blizz with Diablo 3 on PS3 and PS4 which everyone including myself scoffed at until it ended up being good on PS3, and Valve with that cool Portal 2 PS3-PC double deal.
