Valve releases Source Filmmaker beta (Up: Now open for everyone!)

Sod it, this is about as finished as I'm willing to make it. Can anyone explain what's going on with the spazzy lighting?

Fairly happy with it anyway.

Oooh, I really like this. The only part that I think needs improvement, is the jumping motion towards the end, and the accompanying facial expression. Other than that, it is really cool.

I am wondering... When setting up objects as you did, (shotgun on lap), how did you set up physics/collision? When I am placing things, I can't find a feature that does not allow the objects to noclip through a body or wall. It is really annoying.

Thanks. Yeah I got super lazy towards the end and really just wanted to finish it, it's probably full of all sorts of bad technique and was getting quite messy to work in. I'll have to watch some tutorials before attempting another.

As far as I'm aware there is no option to do that (probably wrong) , I just had to animate the shotgun accordingly.

Well, I really love your animation towards the beginning, right up till they both wake up. Very awesome stuff.

I am animating something similar at the moment.

If the entire video is on a single clip,

select your light in the Animation Set Editor,
switch to the Motion Editor of the Timeline,
select all of the timeline (ctrl a, make sure the entire clip is within it) and
when the lighting is at a point you want it to stay at,
click and drag over 'Playhead' (in the Procedural tab) all the way to the right.

I'm guessing what happened was you were messing with the light options while the video was playing in the Motion Editor.

First try. I love the program! It's the only 3D software that clicked with me so far.

Gmod models work right? I wanna import DMC4 Dante.

Thanks, but I'm not even sure where the lighting options are. I think I just chose a poor spot, it's in the corner of the Meet the Heavy room and now that I look at it again the issues occur when the Engineer touches certain spots of the room.

I'm just going to move him out of that spot and reanimate the last half entirely, I think I'll add a few more scenes too. In fact, I might move him into another map, will that be difficult?

Thanks pal, I'm gonna remove all animation after the jump and give it another shot. I'll take my time this time, 5 hours in the middle of the night was a bit much.

Editing 'light options' works the same as any other thing you animate along the timeline in sfm, all you need to do is click on its element (light1, light2, etc) to be able to edit it.

What happens is if you try editing something like its intensity or position while in the motion editor/graph editor and the video is playing, the light will record those actions during that time, just like if you were moving a joint over time to animate it.

Moving to another map would be unloading the current map by right clicking on the viewport then loading a new one in, then selecting all your elements simultaneously and using the move tool to reposition them.

I'm trying to place the BLU HWM Scout model, but he always comes out red. No matter which skin I pick, it's always red.

edit: Nvm, I just had to edit the value of skin under Element Viewer.

Does anyone know how to remove an element like a hat from a model, place it somewhere and remove the lock to it no longer follows the head? I just cannot find the option.

Man, this is more complicated then what I thought it would be.

Then again, my only experience with this kind of stuff was Hammer Editor back in CS1,6 when I made a few maps.

What does it mean when you can't import animation sequences? It's the models "fault" right?

Anyway to rig the model to something like a default TF2 character so that they can share animations?

The only animation sequence the Hitomi model has is "ragdoll" lol

what people already created is awesome. Can't wait what we will see in 1-2 month. This lipsync tech is pretty great. Shows how important it is in vids.

Just imported Miranda, how can you get her suit unzipped in SFM with this one? http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=130361 if possible.

Tried to mess around with posing a bit and some of it goes really easy in the unknown tab, but other stuff is a mess lol.

Right click on the character in the Animation Set Editor -> Set Body
Then just spawn another female character and you're set

Also tried some basic animation with that model, I think lack of IK rig on custom models is going to make any serious animating a big time timesink

Cool, thanks.

Yeah I'm still learning the basics of the program and I'm redoing the tutorial with Miranda instead of the Pyro, her arms just twist up and go full retard the second you try to move them. Which is making it harder to do anything.

For that model in particular, when you select the shoulders to move arms, in the viewport hold ctrl and draw a circle around the shoulder joints. There's actually two bones right ontop of each other that work together so sometimes you might accidentally be selecting just the Twist one.
