Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines - buy this game

This game was so fucking good.

I really liked the stuff like having your own laptop with email, hotel room, the newspapers, tv reports, hacking computer systems, the powers etc...

I do have a few mods for this game saved on my hdd somewhere, better skins and stuff I can reupload since most of the fansites which hosted them are dead now if anyone wants.
Also things like better signs and proper fangs and stuff.
Please do! I'm looking to mod my second play through as much as I can, but the only decent thing I could come across is this Clan Quest Mod, which seems to change things a little too much for my tastes.

If a developer voluntarily puts a product on sale...?

But I didn't even mention supporting a developer, myself. VMB is a product to be purchased. If it can be legally purchased for less, most people will want to do that. That theoretical $7 can buy other things. Or, more likely, combine with all the other $ saved from getting slightly cheaper options, adding up to quite a bit of extra disposable cash over a period of time.

man, I didn't know about daily sales. Other people knew and posted about it. So everybody know now. Chill out.

but it won't go on daily sale

Still too expensive.

I hope you're not serious.

If these three pages are anything to go by, you can spend 13 bucks on a game that's better than any full priced game you bought this year, guaranteed.

What clan are you?

This is what happens when you get sassy with people.

I'm a first timer and picked the Gargian or whatever clan (the loner one). Hope that was a decent decision.

I'm half asleep and thought that this was a real poster for a game at first glance.

I was like "HOLY SHIT VAMPIRE WHALES? THIS MUST BE THE GAME OF THE CENTURY!"
Lol, that would be too awesome if there was vampire whales in the game.

If you pass on buying this game for whatever reason (no computer, no gamepad support, too expensive) you dont deserve to play it.

This game is better than a good majority of games in recent years. Anyone who remotely enjoys RPGs should play it.
It sounds more like yet another first person action game with RPG elements than a real RPG to me. If the game description on Steam is to be believed, anyway.

Ventrue im pretty sure

Trance helps a lot with one and one fights. Just keep your distance and keep stunning him with it as you deal ranged damage with a fire arm.

Is that my right click power? I tried it in the house of mobsters and it didnt look like it did anything

you should point at the enemy.

my favourite cheat tactic - trance them and feed on them.

Also, with all the praise I've seen a terrible game like Oblivion got, forgive me if I'm hesitant to buy any sort of WRPG...

this is nothing like Oblivion. If you like good characters and many ways to approach missions/quest then it's a game for you.

Oblivion is good if you're into exploration only (and installed tons of mods).

Excellent, I've been looking for an RPG in the vein of Deus Ex to tide me over until Deux Ex Human Revolution is released. Thanks GAF for the recommendation!

I'll probably wait for a bigger discount, I already own the game (bought at launch) and I don't want to give too much money to Activision.

If only it could fund Dead State...

I hate Oblivion and, to me, Bloodlines is one of the best RPGs ever made (top 3).

Thankfully, all WRPGs aren't just glorified hiking sims, and Bloodlines is a great entry-point due to being accessible while retaining a lot of the depth the genre can offer.

Don't be obtuse. Should I be hesitant to buy any sort of JRPG because horrible games like the Persona series (in my opinion, just like Oblivion being terrible is an opinion) get so much praise?

Also, I hated Oblivion and loved this game.

wat

Hard to believe someone with a Deus Ex avatar posting in a Bloodlines thread could be so wrong about something. Brave new world.

Fianlly killed that fucker. God the combat in this game is atrocious

it gets better when you level up but yes, it's not good. I enjoyed it for what it is.

Can you get a higher resolution for this game? The two options I see are horribly low.

install the patch, there's a widescreen hack into the directory where the game is.

So I downloaded the Patch (I actually bought the game months ago because I remembered people talking about it.) but I don't know what Mods to get.

I went and looked and there is a quite a few out, so much so it kinda confused a newbie to the mod scene like me. Anyone got any suggestions on the best one?

From the looks of the begining of the game I wanted to be a Evil melee lebian. Anything mods that would specifially make the game more enjoyable when you play it like this?

I played Rapelay so forgive me if I'm hesitant to play any Japanese games...

This game is fun!

i cant really blame them. Oblivion is probably the poster child for high review score depreciation. The hype and the graphics led reviewers to praise Oblivion so much that the disparity from what the player read in the review and played in the game was just too much to reconcile.

Gonna grab this. Is there any issues in playing it on Win 7 64 bit?
Only prob I've had is that there's no picture for the intro ads. Other than that works just great with the OP patch.

Yeah I'm just playing around. I remember saying recently that Oblivion is often used as a catch-all "what's wrong with WRPGs is..." example, in spite of the fact that it's anathema to everything that most WRPGs strive for; it has crappy characters and writing, boring art, horrible mechanics etc. I do think it's greater than the sum of its parts though, and with mods it's fantastic.

This game holds up so well. A lot of its longevity is due to the fact that the art direction and character design is original and stylish...even with low res textures and stiff animations characters are distinctive and fun to talk to. The writing is also great....so many fun, twisting conversations, with very little signposting; other than seduction options you have to really pay attention to character's personalities to understand how best to play them to get what you want.

As far as the world it presents...the World of Darkness setting is infinitely more interesting than the weak imitation of it on a show like True Blood. The only elements of that show that aren't facepalm material are the vampire politicking (most of which they ruin with silly melodramatic twists), and the flashback backstories (which play out like vampire-themed episodes of Highlander). The rest of it is goofy adult soap opera nonsense, and the awesomeness that is Lafayette. I'd love for someone somewhere to take vampires seriously in pop culture again, but I think it's unlikely.

I have no idea what clan to pick for my first time. I always take way longer than I should for these options.

Go with Toreador for your first run, it's one of the more intuitive clans to play. Then play again as a Malkavian and experience the real game.
