Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines - buy this game

So everyone sounds like Alphonse Elric (as in it sounds like they are speaking into a metal bowl, creating a weird voice echo effect) is that normal?

In this case, I don't think any money goes to the developers, anyways. Just straight to Activision. Maybe it'll be enough to pay for Bobby to get his BMW waxed.

Hey, but maybe if we all buy it, they will get the message that we want a sequel!

It's a Source engine game from 2004, so I think your odds are good.
Thanks! I should really like this, I loved Deus Ex.

I'm gonna hold out til the 9th for a daily deal as others suggested and just buy it then, taking the risk of forgetting about it that day (I don't really mind paying full price, but I don't want to buy it on sale when a bigger sale is possible soon). I guess putting it on my wishlist would be a good move.

I am tempted to buy this but since I am so in the dark in terms of pc gaming can someone tell me if my system can run this?

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6700 @ 2.66GHz
2.7 GHz Performance Rated at: 6.21 GHz
Windows Vista
GeForce 8500 GT

Canyourunit tells me I can run it but I just want to make sure.

What's do people mean when they say wait for the daily deal? What's the difference between the stuff that's on sale today and the daily the deal? Am I correct that all the sales will be availble the last day?
There's games you'll see on Steam's front page at a very deep discount. Those are the daily deals, whereas stuff like this is just part of a general Steam Summer sale.

I'd personally keep waiting, but a lot of that has to do with the game having been on sale for $10 in the past, on two consecutive Halloweens at that! Incidentally, that first one was when I got the game.

sorry, refuse to support activision
Part of why you should buy it on sale, whether at this price or an even lower one. If you have to give them money it should be as little as possible, not to mention the slice is even smaller after Valve takes their cut.

Fuck, then I haven't installed the patch correctly because there is no "7.5 patch" message or anything.
After quickly booted VTMB up to check with the latest patch; it seems they removed patch info in the character sheet from the older patches.
If there is a tools subfolder in the Vampire directory, then it should've been installed correctly. Maybe someone whose played it more recently can confirm it for you.

Switch off environmental audio in the sound options.

If there's an option to skip the intro during character creation, you've installed it correctly.

All I needed to see. So very sold.

This game is better than a good majority of games in recent years. Anyone who remotely enjoys RPGs should play it.

this a million times!

I take it that this screenshot from the character creation screen indicates I have the UP 7.5 Plus patch installed correctly.

Got the game after the last thread, with a fair bit of scepticism, best gaming decision I ever made, thank you GAF

Get the unofficial patch, 7.5 now, a must

Does the game require a CD-Key? A little worried about Steam running out if so.

If not, I'll just wait until the last day of sales, see if it hits a daily. Wouldn't be playing it any time soon anyway.

You playing as a Nosferatu, Dennis?

Now that I've tried it for myself, I have to say that the Malkavian clan makes for the most interesting experience, but I'm kinda glad I rolled Ventrue first since it makes the game interesting the 2nd time through.

I might do Nosferatu next but they're so icky.

I dont have the patch in the corner either but whatever, too much to fool with.

I'm thinking of re-rolling, Malkavian seems like something I should do as my "humorous second playthrough" And plus I don't like talking in old english.

Also in cutscenes the camera sometimes goes into a characters body, causing half of that persons body to be missing, I'm guessing this has to do with the game not being meant to be played in widescreen or something.

I haven't played Malkavian before, and my discs are ruined so I might grab this before the sale ends just to do so. They were my second choice after Brujah.

One of my favorite things about Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines is that you really get drawn into the game world. The writing is great and almost every aspect of the game is well thought out. The game assumes the player is intelligent and lets the player work out ways to solve missions without holding your hand throughout the entire game. No color coded moral choices in this one. Every thing is a shade of gray. It's fantastic. This is one game that everyone should experience.

Is that patch in the OP the unofficial one everyone's talking about? I gotta save it for when I buy it.
The one linked in the OP is the most recent patch as of today. You can check Patches-Scrolls.de for any further updates

I've yet to do a melee run. So i'll probably be up for a Brujah/Gangrel/Nosferatu run before I start my Fallout1 replay.

Fuck this crap, Steam is being so slow and I'm prepared to buy this hardcore donkey style!

It also says the page is not for my viewing on Steam, fml

Also, it's required that the first thing you do after starting Bloodlines is opening the console commands and typing "money 100".

Whelp, those screens sold me and if this is ever a daily deal I'm coming back here first thing filled with righteous anger and I expect you guys to rightfully tell me to shut the fuck up.

Why am I such a consumer whore when a steam sale rolls around? :(

I remember all the praise this game had received on GAF when I first heard of it during the steam 2010 holiday sale and it made me excited as hell about this game.

Waiting until the the 9th to see if it ends up as a daily and I'll bite if it is only on regular discount.

But on the very off chance the sale ends early you can yell at those who waited now. :P

You cheapskates are crazy. I bought this game for $30, happily. THIS IS A STEAL. You can play this game like seven times over. Buy buy BUY!

I got the VTMBup75.exe (unofficial patch) and resolution patch. Will play this in a bit.

The widescreen/resolution patch is built in to the UOP, accessible in the tools folder after installing (as is the official patch, 64-bit memory fix patch and so on). The 7.5 UOP has basically everything you need in a single package.

Thanks for clarifying :)

I assume the patch is applied automatically or do I just search the directory in my Steam apps?

Sorry for the stealth edit, you need to run "ResPatch.exe" from the tools folder to enable the widescreen resolutions. It also lets you adjust the FOV, though it automatically picks a logical one based on the aspect ratio if you aren't sure what you should use.

A heads-up for those playing this gem for the first time:

You really should do a Malkavian playthrough BUT not as your first character. They have "insight" which might spoil a few plot surprises. They are also awesome killing machines as they have both Obfuscate (shared with Nosferatu characters) and their class specific Dementation. Use them in combination to undetectably cause your enemies to go insane and kill each other. Good times, good times

Brujah, Tremere, Ventrue or Toreador are your best bet for your first playthrough. Ventrue are powerful but they can't feed on rats which can be problematic in a few missions.

Guns are really powerful and almost a necessity in the finale but I actually prefer the special sword (forgot its name now :/) that does magic and physical damage.

Soundtrack is superb. I have the Best Buy special edition which came with the soundtrack on CD but the tracks are mp3 and not wav which to this day kinda ticks me off. Maybe Platypotomus (sp?) can comment on where the soundtrack can be had in all its uncompressed glory

Hmmm what else? Ah screw it...explore and enjoy ;)

Thanks, I have both so I'm good to go and the DL just finished on Steam!

Go Brujah and get celerityyyyyyyyyy!

Or Toreador but seriously who wants to be a Toreador.

Toreador is probably the best class for a first timer. They get Dominate and its easy to build up Seduction quickly. This gives you two excellent conversation options and Dominate as combat skill is pretty powerful.

What risk is there in waiting?

That it won't ever be a daily deal and you'll have missed the chance to buy the game at a discounted price? If $14 is too much for someone they aren't going to pay $20 for it.
