I'm dumbfounded that anone would portray Vancouver as hipster dominated.. They're so few in number, I'm surprised when I see them.
If you said "rich Asians" or "commercial drive hippies" I'd understand.. But hipsters? Naw.

If anyone happens to like Stargate, The Bridge studios is having a garage sale of 14 years worth of accumulated junk that was used to make the show. Obviously all the good stuff was sold on ebay a long time ago, but there's still some neat things kicking around. Like sets of "villager clothes" or an empty three ring binder that was once labelled "Atlantis season 3".
A bunch of stuff that may be of interest to non-nerds as well, like used filing cabinets and bookshelves.
I was there earlier today, and it's open again tomorrow (Saturday) from 10:00 until 6:00.

One of my profs last fall was an actor on Stargate. He was awesome. It as a Greek Mythology class I was taking to fill my B-Hum requirement and he was just an amazing story-teller. When we found out he was an actor it kinda made sense =P

Yaletown and Coal Harbour are, for sure. The West End still has a nice mix of different people, and the fact that it feels a lot more like a neighbourhood is nice (I've always found Yaletown and Coal Harbour to feel quite sterile (too much cement, not enough green), and many of their inhabitants come off as cold). Tons of hipsters in that Main St. corridor you mentioned though.

The issue of course is our helmet law but I don't think I've ever seen that enforced.
Image at the link. This is AWESOME! Was in Montreal about a month ago and how was really blown away by it. A year's pass is $78. You just grab a bike at the nearest station, bike to the station closes to where you're headed and park it there.

They enforce it sometimes. I've had friends get hassled/ticketed over it.
Anyways, I'm glad we're getting the Bixi system, and in my neighbourhood (Mt. Pleasant) too. I remember reading about Paris' version of this system and thinking that it was a fantastic idea.

The city wants to have a Bixi program run privately.
While I hear this works in some other cities, Vancouver had the Olympics Athlete's Village developed privately and ultimately was on the hook for all of it anyways... I just don't have much faith in the city to do a private-public partnership in a way that isn't just robbing public funds.

Most of the boards at the Bay have been replaced. Sears still has their boards up (go down Howe and Robson). Chapters has boards too.
So some poll says Vancouver is the nicest (aesthetically) city in Canada. It's certainly the nicest Canadian city I've been to.

Someone needs to develop a Chrome extension that keeps CTV news comments from loading.

There's a flag thingy at the bus stop out the front of London Drugs on Granville. But it's pretty lame.
The boards on windowshops are inspirational to read, but that's about it.
Just wanted to say, that for the very brief time I had to experience Vancouver, I loved it. The people were friendly, courteous, and what I expected from Canadians -- as a fellow Canadian. I think I've made up my mind that I'd love to live and work here as opposed to Toronto.
Again, as a fellow Canadian, I'm lucky and happy to have spent a Canada day split between Vancouver and my home, Toronto.
