Oh but you could. Theoretically. It's a tablet, not a console. You cant put a physical platter drive in it. Ask your phone or tablet manufacturer how much they charge for extra onboard flash storage. That's why the cost is being passed to the prosumer rather than everyone who buys the console for, say, 350 or more instead of 299. Be realistic, not concerntrollistic. Hell, be happy they're not fleecing you like Sony did with extremely expensive proprietary flash storage.
How much more were you willing to pay for a Switch?they really should have gone with at least 64GB internal memory for the system...
Nice to see commentary on GAF has finally caught up with GameFAQs, what with all the "defense force" talk lately
Then the system goes up in price and in the end you end up STILL buying an external card....they really should have gone with at least 64GB internal memory for the system...

In the year 2017 I would like my portable to be digital only. And 32 gigs just won't cut it. We all knew 32 gigs wasn't going to be enough but it is pretty sad to see a single game take up the entire space day one.

Have we confirmed that the retail game cards don't require any installs whatsoever?
could they not have just had a simple usb solution for hard drives for people who want to easily be able to have a decent storage space?
It's funny, I used to think Nintendo fans on here were annoying at times, but mannnnn has that really flipped. Forums always get worse around console launches, but wow. It's gotten pretty ridiculous. I'm all for reasonable debate and discussion among people with strong disagreements, but most Nintendo threads have become completely toxic. It is what it is, I suppose. Still plenty of level-headed users here, fortunately.

Doesn't seem like that would have been to hard to do at all.
Shame on the PS4 version as well. :O

Yep, and it's also worth pointing out that many Switch cases have game cart slots built in. The PDP one I ordered, for example, has 14 cart slots. When will anyone need to carry more than that at one time? And even if you do, Switch carts are tiny little things and weigh practically nothing.I shared this sentiment at first, and would love to go all digital, but...
The thing about Switch is that the way it's designed (i.e. non-clamshell) you *need* to have a carrying case for it.... so you'll be able to carry games wherever your Switch is. It's not a huge deal swapping cards, if you are going to have them with the system at all times.
Prepare for incoming "But that would kill the Switch mechanic" and etc.
Could I get a link to these specific threads btw?
What they've offered here is from one perspective better than Sony/MS consoles - since on those consoles games must install so you can run out of storage even if buying only physical.Concerntrollistic...come on man. It's pretty damn realistic to expect your new home console to be able to fit a game without forcing you to buy external storage. Especially since they don't even offer a version of the console with extra storage out of the gate. Lol the defense of this thing...it's okay for Nintendo to have not gotten everything 100% right.

- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 13.4 GB
It occupies less than 10% of HDD though, not 100% so its fine.
Oh good, nearly twice the size of my Wii U's hard drive..
Large game size is not fine when it could be smaller. I don't care if my 2 TB HDD has enough space, I shouldn't have to deal with these large ass gamestop This entire generation has been the generation of bloated game size. Developers can do better, they just choose not to.It occupies less than 10% of HDD though, not 100% so its fine.
That would've increased the price and people would've shit blood given some peoples' reaction to $300.
Seriously think about this.Math isn't gaf's best subject.
Do we know that the docked mode doesn't support it? It has USB, and the Wii U supported USB hard drives.
The SDXC standard supports up to 2TB of storage. (Note that 2TB cards are not yet on the market, but Nintendo Switch will support them when they are.) External USB hard drives are not supported at launch, but we are researching the possibility of supporting them in the future.
And the Switch retail version occupies 0%. How much more is 10% than 0%?

Would you be happy paying $50 more for 32GB extra in your Switch or buying a 64GB micro sd card for less than $50? Lol
I mean come on...
Seriously think about this.
whoa whoa whoa, hold on now, don't be unreasonablethink
what I've learned from this thread is people have an incredibly unreleastic belief that flash NAND memory costs an arm and a leg
the difference between 32GB and 128GB for an iPhone costs Apple only a couple of dollars, if you really think Nintendo couldn't afford to put 64GB in instead and still charge $300 then I have a bridge to sell you

Dragon Quest seems weird at 32GB. It is two games, but is not like each was 16GB each on PS3 and Vita.

The point is you would still need to get a SD card at some point of you are serious about digital purchases. Results in a higher price for everyone even though the people who really need it still need to get a SD card anyway.what I've learned from this thread is people have an incredibly unrealistic belief that flash NAND memory costs an arm and a leg

Heroes 1 is like 58GB or so on PS4.
Because being 2 games makes it only half as sad.LOL @ people jumping to "BUT ONE SINGLE GAME FILLS ALL THE SPACE" argument, when they (probably on purpose) ignore the fact that these are two games in one package.

Tbh, anyone who was going to go heavily down the digital route would need a lot more than just 64GB. I'd rather the system be cheaper and just buy a large micro sd card when I need onethey really should have gone with at least 64GB internal memory for the system...
23.79GB
They never, ever fucking learn.
It's a tablet, not a console.
For one thing, Nintendo is calling it a console. It's a console. Stop that. And since these SD cards are so cheap, they could have bundled one in with the machine.
