i fucking vomite every time i see this style...

two recent ps4 ps+ games come to mind as one's i find aesthetically offensive:

bonus awful art direction award goes to:

a game i actually enjoyed but found so ugly that i couldn't finish it. i'm probably in the minority in that shitty art direction can actively ruin a game for me.
bayonetta is another example - some awesome bosses and environments eclipsed by overall bad character design.

Things like "Mature audience will never accept Japanese artists sexualize little girls/underage/youngsters/female characters" is a very weak social justice agenda. If our communist government taught me anything about social justice, it's about social justice is the worst thing on this planet, it's basically nothing but admit how weak your culture/law/national strength is. If you want to achieve social justice, you make a law to forbid, you take the dispute land by force, you arrest hentai manga artists across national boundaries and put them in your jail, in this way you can tell the world "this is fucking bad and should go to hell", this is how social justice being served, not using agendas to encourage censorship or witch hunt.

I vomit rainbows when I see Kishida Mel's GORGEOUS art.

Sooo good.

I actually dislike Kishida Mel's Atelier work; it always feels very overly-detailed and I'm not a huge fan of the coloring either. I was pretty happy though when I saw that hidari working on the new Atelier games though.

I like Kishida a lot so we gotta disagree on this one, but I can agree with your that Hidari is also amazing.

The 2 new characters are sooo adorable, can't wait to play it.

Again?! What is so off-putting about these games?

...they're ugly? i'm not sure i know what else to say. i find the character design hideous. not trying to argue that they're objectively bad or anything, but they exhibit aesthetics i personally find unbearable.

Also, that girl isn't holding that... whatever it is, properly. It really bothers me

Doesnt look that wrong to me, her right hand obviously isnt on it yet and looking at the position of her left hand and the far axe blade it looks like shes going to grasp the bottom with her right hand and then swing it around and down. The positioning of the left hand looks a little awkward but nothing too terrible.

I don't really mind most art styles... But I gotta say that Tsunako artstyle really annoy me, for some reason. It just doesn't look right for me

Yea assuming the girl in the second pic doesn't have super strength and that thing isn't made of styrofoam, she wouldn't be able to support its center of gravity in that position with just one hand

I don't mind the design but that image is too busy

Look at the other arm

Wait, it isn't all that bad; Looked at it at the wrong angle... Still looks awkward for me, at least

I would have played Darksiders if the art design wasn't so dorky.

Yea that's what I'm saying. Her wrist is twisted and all the weight is down at that point. If she were mid swing, the momentum would make her spin around or stumble backwards unless she has two fingers on the top end of it.

... Oh boy, didn't even notice that. Heh

lol yea the fact that she's so tiny gives it away more than anything. I don't like to nitpick on poses like that because they're not easy to do at all. However, if this is official game art, that's the least of the problems going for it.

It seems pretty obvious that shes not mid swing though, rather that shes setting up for a swing. Also in the case of the weapon shes using IIRC theyre magic god weapons and all of them are oversized so their weight implicitly isnt an issue. Pointing out flaws in an image is of course fair game but if theres a more charitable and/or (in my opinion) obvious interpretation of an image that doesnt make the artist look incompetent why not go with that?

we all lose with this

Also everything made by Tetsuya Nomura who makes the most utterly ridiculous incoherent and purposeless designs for characters...and whom i consider to be more or less the person who started the downfall of all modern Jrpg designs since the late 90s

seriously this makes me wanna choke myself to death on a chainsaw

I never understood why Kingdom Hearts 1's Cloud had Vincent's gauntlets... I liked the 3rd design in Advent Children, but KH2 did something to it. I can't put my finger on it.

Also, Persona 4:

And I hope the character models in Persona 5 look more like the character portraits.

Yeah man, Persona 4's biggest problem was including optional, out of the way costumes.

What is this rule 34 I keep seeing mentioned in this thread?

For me, this is any situation where a game has an even vaguely realistic visual style or atmosphere, but the designers make sets and character designs that have virtually no practicality to it, or outright defy universal laws.

This can take several forms, including the oft-mention clothing that's bound to entangle, trip, or flat out fall off of the user, yet doesn't because the developers are simply too short-sighted or even stupid to realize it. Another example is vehicles that are too large to move by the mechanisms they appear to move by. The Helicarrier from the recent Avengers movie is a shining example of this: the designers made the thing too carelessly big for the helicopter-like blades they gave it to have any hope of even lifting an empty hull of the thing.

Related to the above though not strictly visible (though it does effect vehicle designs etc. in the game) is when physical laws get misapplied or ignored. Space Engineers comes to mind here, with spacecraft consistently outputting thrust yet at some point no longer accelerating, among other anomalies.

street fighter 4, street fighter vs tekken and tekken revolution. I hate that cartoony art style they are going for.

Also this "thing" is the worst character design i've ever seen in a video game.

Anyone else waiting for Nomura to just say "fuck it" and have a character wearing nothing but wrapped up belts like a Goddamn mummy?

...Or has he already done that?

Nothing says classy like transphobia

I don't like the hideous design so i must hate a certain group of people. Brilliant deduction. I really hope you're offended.

I say thing because i have no idea what the hell they are shooting for with this character. It doesn't look all to human to me, like some fucked up saiyan race in a dragon ballz episode.

Poison looks like fake tits and 80's metal hair, definitely a product of her time.

If you're talking about the exaggerated proportions, pretty much everyone in SFIV has that.

To be fair, you used "thing" in reference to a transgendered character with no further context given. If that's not what you meant, okay, but it's hard not to take it any way but the wrong way.

You really shouldn't use the word "THING" to describe a transgender character, no matter what your intent is.
