Vita has no games... compared to?

I still find it hard to comprehend why the general consensus with regards to the Vita is "vita has no games... doomed".

My current Vita games folder contains the following:

Gravity Rush (PS+)
Guacamelee!
Jet Set Radio (PS+)
Lumines Electronic Symphony (PS+)
P4G
Sound Shapes
Super Stardust Delta
Thomas Was Alone (PS+)
Velocity Ultra (PS+)
Wipeout 2048 (PS+)

Not included (due to only having a 16GB card)
Uncharted GA (PS+)
MGS HD Collection (PS+)
VLR (PS+)
Sine Mora (PS+)

I haven't included any PSP or PSone games for the obvious reasons.

Would you consider this library to be lacking in any area? What genres do you think are not represented well in the Vita's game selection? or is it just that there just aren't enough games out?

I for one am very positive about E3 with regards to the PS3, Vita and PS4 announcements. I know that there have been similar threads around but do people mean when saying "Vita's doomed" ?

PS. Rayman Origins on PS+ EU in June!

When people say "has no games" it generally boils down to that it doesn't have one or two big blockbuster game that moves units and get's people interested who weren't before. On that metric, it definitely "has no games."

Western media said PSP didn't have games while I was enjoying Kingdom Hearts, Dissidia, God of War Gos, God Eater, FF IV etc. I wouldn't take that to serious. If you have enough to play, everything is fine.

Probably 3DS
Vita had more released games in the first 12 months than 3DS ( which were better rated by 5% on average) It was always a stupid notion.

It's disappointing as a Vita owner that there seems to be very few retail releases in the next couple months. I still have plenty to play with MK Vita, Persona 4, and Dynasty Warriors Next but damn I'd like a couple new games a month as a release schedule.

Meanwhile the 3DS has games coming out that I'm holding off on buying because I have no idea when I'll be able to play them.

Yes it's comparatively harder to name a must-have exclusive on the Vita than on the 3DS.

People just look at the direct competition. Compared to the 3DS, it's lacking.

Compared to anything else, it's fine.
Compared to the Wii U, it's on fire.

Pokemon X&Y
Bravely Default
X-Zone
Fire Emblem
Luigi's Mansion: DM
Animal Crossing
Lttp2
Soul Hackers
Devil Survivor: Overclocked, and soon DS2:BC
Monster Hunter (Tri Ultimate, and 4)
Etrian Odyssey
SMT4
Mario&Luigi
Ocarina of Time 3D
Resident Evil

Vita has lots of good games. But Vita has no games with enough mass market appeal to sell lots of Vitas.

Spot on. I love my Vita and certainly have no shortage of games, but I can perfectly understand why the mass market isn't jumping on it.

Yep, and i also think it is sometimes used for "it has no games that i'm interested in".

Sell me on the 3DS with current/upcoming list.

Also with Nintendo's approach to the WiiU at the moment, I'm finding it hard to commit to Nintendo as opposed to Sony. (Not a fanboy of either btw)

The "lelelele vita has no gaems" is just like the "ps3 has no games" thing.

While I do agree that the the library is kinda lacking compared to it's predecessor.

I myself am enjoying the Vita despite that.

My library right now contains
Soul Sac
DJ MAX
VLR
Let's Fish! Hooked On!
Dead or Alive 5+
Metal Gear Solid HD

and various PSP/PS1 titles

and I have access to (whenever I want to redownload them)
Guacamele
Gravity Rush
Uncharted
Sony Smash Brothers
BlazBlue
Kyntt Undergound
Machinarium

and a whole bunch of PS1/PSP/PSM titles

Still though, I wish the the Vita would be like the JRPG machine that the 3DS is.

P4G ain't gonna cut it. This thing needs some real SMT games and some updated FFs

Nintendo have done a far, far better job of the 3DS than they have the Wii U.

And the ones left are not system sellers. That's why.

For "has no games" I mean that it doesn't have three analog sticks. On that metric, because Vita has only two sticks, it definitely "has no games"

Also doesn't help that a lot of what could've been the big hitters for the console are effectively custom vita versions of their ps3 counterparts.

This won't end well, like every single vita(and some not-vita related) thread.

Probably 3DS

A one year older console has more games? Compliments! A really impossible task!

Even if the 3ds has more games this does not mean that vita has no gaemz.

Vita has bad sales? Yes.
Vita needs more big games? Yes.
Vita has no games? No, only brainwashed fanboys and who doesn't even know what a vita really is could really think this way.
Vita has a false and undeserved reputation.

Compared to everything but the wii u.
No doubt it's a matter of taste. Im still not persuaded to get a 3ds either.

3DS
IOS

Kinda why the Vita is in the shape it is in. Memory card prices too. The Vita has a nice library, but except for a couple good titles, the games worth buying are ports/remakes. PS+ helps the Vita immensely I admit.

Can't wait for the inevitable "Sony Fans Hyperbole Train" thread. :p

Honestly, I haven't followed the Vita closely so far. Most of the games that I find attractive for it are available in other formats, but given Sony's track record there will eventually be enough sweet first party studio games to make me cave in and buy one. Hell, an actual good port of Rayman Origins that I could play on the bus is enough of a reason to at least to keep an eye on it.

Out on PS+ in June. Apparently identical to it's console counterparts (bar co-op multiplayer). Looking forward to playing this again!

On my main memory card:

There's no other handheld device that can you give the same experience as when playing these games on the vita. It's simply superb and they cover a pretty wide range. Especially for people with a western taste in games.

[The 3 in the top row of the action adventure/platformer folder are Crash Bandicoot, Loco Roco 2, GTA Vice City Stories, then Super Monkey Ball, Rayman Origins, LBPV, JSR, Guacamelee, SoundShapes]

I need like 128GB for this at least. Those games pretty much max out the 32. Got a 16 but switching cards is effort, I've set it up with some of the missing games though - long trips etc. Powerstone, FFVII-IX, MGS, the other wipeouts, RR, SFxT, Touch my Katamari, NGS+, (VLR, Uncharted, Mortal Kombat, all from PS+), Oddworld, ZHP, it's like 80GB worth, none are bad.

the whole 'vita is dead lol' & 'vita has no gamez' is just console warrior bullshit.

it is what it is and that is a good handheld with a decent back catalog of psp/ps1/ps2 games and 10-12 good made-for-vita exclusives.

But saying that creates no drama and does nothing to feed into the ego of brand warriors so it rarely gets said.

I can play the vast majority of what you listed on the PS3 at a better quality and framerate usually. When I go out, I mess with a phone because I already have it on me. I simply have a 3DS because it has games that other systems don't.

Sony is too scared to make anything exclusive, so for someone who plays handhelds at home, it has no appeal to me. Also, when a big part of peoples' arguments for buying a Vita are that it has PSP games from last gen, you kind of have a problem.

Yeah, to me, it comes down to exclusives. Looking at your list, I know many of those games are also available to PS3 and I would rather play them on that, especially MGS HD Collection and Guacamelee!. I will also be getting Thomas Was Alone on PC, even though I believe having a portable version of it would work much better.

Fact is, there isn't anything on the Vita that I personally want that isn't also available on the PS3 or PC, except for maybe Gravity Rush. But that certainly is not reason enough to buy a Vita. Likewise, the only two games I want for the XBOX 360 are Fable II and Lost Odyssey, but I'm not going to buy an entire console for that (shame about Fable II, I still really want to play it... Especially after the bad taste Fable III left in my mouth).

Gamecube? Everybody always claimed the Gamecube had no games, now any "which games need sequels" thread can basically be summed up as "Gamecube 2".

Persona 4 Golden is the only reason I'd get a Vita at this point in time.

I've actually bought the game already, I just don't own a Vita yet

So it's not fair to compare them?

Edit: For the record I want to want a Vita, but there isn't that one game that'll push me over the edge to getting one. I might get one eventually just for off-screen play with PS4. I love me some off-screen play.
