VITA Newb/N00b Q&A

What's the orange port for?
My Vita doesn't have a orange port. Is it one of these?

Is there a good tutorial for NEAR anywhere? I think I'm getting the hang of it, but it's still confusing me. I wish the application just gave you a bit more feedback. I've discovered Game Goods from friends (and they say they've received them from me) but I'm not really sure when I've sent them. Is it an automatic thing?

I just got a 3G model, does anybody understand about receiving the free Super Stardust Delta game? Will Sony email you a code in 30 days or does it pop up as a download in the PS Store?

I don't know how it works in the US, but I received a text message with a download code sent directly to my Vita.

So i just read that you are suppose to deactivate your account when you restore to use other accounts to get demos from other regions.

Well I didn't deactivate my system, but all the demos like Gravity Rush play fine. I was still able to earn trophies in Uncharted. Should I be worried? What happens now since I didn't deactivate when I did the restores?

This is what I did: (my US account is my main)

1. Restored my Vita (US Account)
2. Selected NO and did not deactivate the system.
3. Did NOT format my memory card
4. Logged in and did the initial setup with my HK account
5. Logged in with my HK account on my PS3
6. Used Content manager to transfer the demos from my PS3 to my Vita
7. Restored my Vita (from HK account)
8. Selected NO and did not deactivate the system
9. Did NOT format my memory card
10. Logged in and did the initial setup with my US account
11. Back on my main account, demos played fine and was able to earn trophies fine for uncharted.

Should I be worried since I didn't deactivate my accounts upon restoring them? And also the fact that I used my ps3s to download the demos and then transfer them instead of using the Vita directly?

Everyone seems to think you can't use content from two PSN accounts on Vita without having two memory cards. I decided to try it for myself.

I'm pleased to report that it's not true.

This morning I connected to both the US and Japanese PSN Stores and downloaded content from both. I did not switch memory cards (I only have one), or reformat the memory card.

I am logged on with my main US account and all the content from both regions is playable. :)

The way I did it is still a bit of a pain, but unlike the two cards method, you only need to do mine once, and at the end everything is on one card and playable under your main account. The only limitation I've found is that I get a message telling me that I will be unable to earn trophies on the Japanese content when I start playing it from my US account.

Choose Settings > Format > Restore the PS Vita System
Select Restore.
You'll be asked if you want to deactivate the system from your account first.
Yes, you do want that.
Wait. Deactivation occurs.
Select Restore again.
This time you'll be asked if you want to format your memory card during the restore process.
No, you do NOT want to do that.
The restore process completes leaving your card contents intact.
Set your language & timezone.
Choose to sign in with your Japanese (or whatever other region) PSN account.
The unskippable Vita intro movie plays. Make a sandwich.
Download Japanese content from the Store (or from your PS3) onto the Vita.

When you're done, follow this process again, from the top, but choose to sign in with your main account. Remember to Activate your Vita for Games when you're signed back in.

Tried this to see if it would work for my PSP games on my US account, but it didn't work for me... I get "Cannot start this application. The owner of this application is another player."

I guess it only works for Vita games.

Edit: n/m, I'm just repeating what's above.

1. to put the vita into sleep mode, just press the power button once, right? will downloads still be downloading in background in sleep mode?

2.*edit* answered above..

3. how do you properly "EXIT" a game or app? im pressing the PS-button in the lower left and it takes me to the LiveArea, but theres no option to "EXIT" the game/app.....only when you try to open another game does it ask you to close it...

While playing Wipeout the other day during one of the loading screens the game froze at 98 percent. So I restart it and get the blank screen with blue Playstation light. Read about the recovery menu and tried each option available with no luck. Anyone have any experience or ideas on how to fix this? Or did I just win the early adopter lotto and get to play the exchange game?

1. In the picture how come the dates/times don’t show up for the trophies? I've seen them listed for other games......what gives?

2. Also, how do I get YouTube videos saved on my Vita? And how do I convert audio tracks for YouTube onto my Vita music list?

Something that has boggled me since Wednesday that I finally fixed today:

There is apparently a Wi-Fi issue with certain Linksys routers (mine is a WRT54G): If you have custom DNS entries in the router the Vita will connect to the router but not be able to see the internet. Change the settings to manual and give the Vita a static IP address (outside of your DHCP range just to be sure) and use the IP address of the router for the Primary DNS entry.

May not work for everyone but worked for me.

is there anyway for me to use the buttons and sticks on the internet browser or its all touchscreen?

<--- has no smartphone experience and finds touchscreen browsing annoying

Mine shows the time in the PSN tab.

On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being fantastic and 10 being awesome, where would you rate the Vita?

I love numbers!

7 for the software and the possibility of the hardware. I have major problems with the "multi-tasking" and networking.

For comparison based on launch hardware and software I would give...

3DS: 5 (8 now)
360: 7 ( 9 now)
PSP: 6 (4 now)
PS3: 5 (7 now)
PS2: 7 (10 now)
Dreamcast: 9 (8 now)

how can I change language of my trophies?
I was using my native language for a while (as a system language) and all my trophies in 'PS Vita System' tab were in native. When I switch to English, they are intact... Do I have to format my Vita in a specific way? How will this affect my games/saves/profile settings?

How in the world does one use the crossplay in Wipeout? I spend half an afternoon working on it and I'm still clueless. Does the PS3 have to be on the same account or something? Or is there a specific option in Wipeout HD?

If I start a game on a retail game card and decide to get the the digital version instead, can I continue from where I left off or will it make me start over?

Crossplay is just random matchmaking with people playing Wipeout HD on PS3 or people also doing crossplay mode on Vitas. Nothing to do with your own version of Wipeout HD.

When in the Live area drag the corner of the program just like you do on the unlock screen/ Program close. =)

My question.

Does the Wifi model have GPS?

This has probably been mentioned in several places already, maybe even in here, but... I just hooked my Vita up to my PS3. I purchased that Mutant Blob attacks game on my PS3 and I'm trying to transfer it to the Vita, but it's not working. My Vita says, could not copy some content items. What am I doing wrong?

Nevermind, I got it. I think I had to format my memory card. Doh.

is there a way to remove/delete any undesirable bubble that came pre-installed? When I hold any bubble for an application that I have installed I have 2 options "information" and "delete". The ones that already came with the software update (like AT&T offer) only have "information". I want to get rid of some I do not use at all.

No way to delete, just put them on the last page.

Best program and best file type to get Blurays onto the Vita stick? I have access to a pc with BR drive.

I really want to see The Lion King on Vita in good quality.

Thanks for the links. I think I'll get the Nyko power kit:

http://nyko.com/products/product-detail/?name=Power Kit for PS Vita

I was hoping for something like a universal USB charger that charges existing devices like the iPad or Android tablets which can double as a PSV charger as well.

How fast are the vita memory cards?

Because posters on gamefaqs and Sonys boards are claiming they are only 4-6mb/s

Here is a post from the Sony boards by Wikiality

"When the prices and proprietary nature of the vita memory cards were announced, people comforted themselves thinking that they must have super high read speeds to allow to minimize load times. After all Sony just released a proprietary card for cameras with a 60mb/s read speed.

Instead tests show that the vita memory cards have the read speed of a measily 4mb/s!!! Why?

Sonys game carts have a higher but still low read speed of 6 mb/s. This is why Wipeout has such atrociously load times and this is why it's loadtimes are even longer for the digital version of the game rather than the cart.

That was a stupid move by Sony. Loadtimes are the death of portable gaming, they hurt the psp and will hurt the Vita.

For such a high price, their memory cards should atleast be 20 MBs/s. This would encourage sales of digital games which is good for Sony. Digital games have much higher profit margins than retail games. This is also why they should sell the cards for cheaper. Many gamers including I considered buying a 32gb card and going all digital since it's more convenient but were discouraged from doing so due to the high prices of the cards. People that were considering big cards were doing so because they wanted to make lots of digital purchases.

Fortunately Sony can still fix this. Release higher speed cards ASAP and lower the price Sony."

Q about remote play:

I registered my device, enabled the function to turn on my PS3 via internet remote play, and shut down the PS3 afterwards. But it turned back on automatically shortly. Is this normal and is it gonna stay that way when I'm out?
