VLC 2.0 coming (all over my face) this week

wow at all the vlc hate in this thread. i like vlc because i don't like dealing with codecs even if cccp has made it extremely easy. i don't really watch movies fullscreen on my pc. i usually do "always on top" + "minimal mode" so i can do other stuff while something plays. its also mostly a bunch of smaller clips or webshows, so i often use the playlist window, and i find vlc's playlist functions work just fine for me.

so if mpc can do always on top, a view similar to vlc's "minimal mode" and has decent playlist functions, maybe i'd consider switching. also a few people mention mpc + cccp, so i have to install cccp its definitely a pass for me.

One of the biggest reasons I recommend VLC to people is it's an easy all in one solution for someone like my GF or my non geek friends. If they somehow get a random video that they can't play I'm like VLC will play that, and they just have to do a normal install. No other stuff needed.

PS: That being said MPlayer or SMPlayer is totally fine for me when I'm in linux especially since it's preinstalled a lot of the time.

I read this thread and wonder if I'm living on the same planet as you guys. Vic is great and always has been for me. Maybe it's a videophile thing...which I am not one I guess. Plays every file, it's simple, don't need to download anything else with it. Just works.

Any ways to disable that? I hate the fullscreen thing for dual monitors

Edit: oh found it, it's in preferences under video!

Yes there's a tick-box in the preferences. Requires a CMD-Q in-between to take effect.

The new full screen navbar stay enormous regardless though.

Yea everything working as I want it, feels good man, I'll try it out for a while, it's pretty responsive even playing a 1080p trailer

Would anyone be kind enough as to re-host that Mac download file? In a country where the download is blocked, even the mirrors don't work. I'd hugely appreciate it. How big is the file, anyway?

Don't know why everyone is in rejoice. Whatever bare VLC player I have now is fucking great, fuck "looks" or layouts. It just works, and is simple.

10 years later; can it finally center the window on opening/playing a file like every other video player known to man?

let's see!

You gotta be shitting me, 2.0 and still using the hideous orange cone?

Still excited though :_\
This has been my default icon for VLC for as long as I can remember;

Can't stand the cone.

It's funny how many knock VLC due to seeking issues. Many times in my experience I've found VLC can seek files (in any condition), where MPC just restarts or skips to the end.

Ok so I updated and now my anime playback lags more and skips in 720p mkv files. Does anyone have any experience with this and can fix this or should I use another player? If so any suggestions?

MPC is your best option if VLC doesn't work for you.

it's the best option even if VLC is working :) Seriously though, give MPC a try.

Thanks. I just found a solution but ill keep it in mind.

I got rid of the lag by going to / Tools / Preferences / Input & Codecs / Codecs ... and set "Skip H.264 in-loop deblocking filter" to "All". I am happy now

installed vlc 2.0 and now everything is fucked up: 720p files have a lot of stuttering, 1080p files dont work at all, mpc doesnt play 720p in normal speed (sound is also gone). everything worked fine before i installed 2.0.

i am now using kmplayer, since its the only one that still plays my hd-files with no stuttering.

Is there a way to make it play/pause when you click the video screen like most flash/html5 players and Media Player Classic?

Is there anyway to hide the sidebar thing (the one that shows Playlists, My Computer, Network, etc)? I'd like to just have the simple window, don't need all the extra stuff :(
