VLC 2.0 coming (all over my face) this week

Huh, seems to work pretty well. Older versions always had issues, but 2.0 is handling every video file I throw at it. Not bad at all.

I hate to beg, but for new page and all. Could anyone possible put the Mac 64bit download up on dropbox for me? I can't DL from where I live, it's blocked with no mirrors in sight.. :\

Would anyone be kind enough as to re-host that Mac download file? In a country where the download is blocked, even the mirrors don't work. I'd hugely appreciate it. How big is the file, anyway?

Here you go: [EDIT: link removed] (25.4 MB)

Let me know when you're done with it (I don't have a Mac, so I have no reason to keep the file).

EDIT: Not actually beaten (my link was up first), but still beaten!

Jesus Christ, thanks people. WHICH DO I DOWNLOAD?! You know what, i'm taking them all.

New UI looks much better, but I'm only interested if it's as light on system resources as the current version. The current version is so much better than every other media player out there because it plays everything and is soooo smooth.

OH SNAP! It's actually out in the week they promised!

Funny to because I was bored last night and broke down and installed the RC1! LOL

I'm installing the release version now. Is it just me or does the UI still look pretty much the same on Windows? I know OSX get a revamp, but Windows seems pretty much the same at least in the RC. I've yet to try it out on any of my Linux stuff that I run to see how that looks with 2.0. Gotta tell my GF it's time to update.

Without me looking through the patch notes, what are the other major additions for 2.0?

You might as well, it could never hurt to have a backup!

...wait, that's not how it works.
Lol, you know what, just to prove it;

dat backups

Why does the interface still look like shit in Windows? :|

OSX seems to have gotten a lot of extra love this time around. Windows and Linux don't get 64bit versions or redone interfaces. Supposedly some of this is "in the works" though.

So I'm watching Blind Guardian, "Imaginations Through The Looking Glass." It's just one solid file. It now shows me in little segments where each song starts and ends on the movie. The names even pop up when you hover over the segments. This is awesome.

The audio sounds a little different now.
Edit: Nevermind, changed preset to Flat.

Downloading the Windows version. I hope this is good. I love VLC's functionality but it would be nice if it didn't look like Windows 95.

Don't expect much interface wise on Windows. It's all of the other stuff we get like better multicore support and GPU rendering, 10bit support, even more codec support improved libs and the like.

That being said while I'm not a huge fan of the interface and would like to see them redo it for Windows and Linux like they've done for OSX, I normally just watch my stuff in full screen + minimal interface anyways.

Yeah, I like the improvement in handling chapters. Showing the names like that is convenient too.

It tripped me out for a second, because I didn't notice it till I was reading the title for the song. I haven't actually played any songs on it yet to see how it handles audio files.

Don't like the new native fullscreen mode for OS X but luckily I can disable it. Does anyone else notice a delay of about 2 or 3 seconds when changing the sound volume? It wasn't there in previous versions of VLC.

See I've never had a problem with VLC's interface. I love function over form.

The only area I felt could be improved is fullscreen controls. I love how in MPC the controls only appear if you have the mouse right at the bottom of the screen and disappear the moment you take the mouse away. Contrast to VLC where any slight nudge of the mouse brings the controls up and they spend ages going away.

Hmm, yeah they seemed to have sped up the full screen control transparency, but the clicker still loiters for a time.

I also wish it wasn't nudge sensitive or at least an option to get a less nagging function.

Been using VLC forever ...

Finally got a 90 GB file that will not play in VLC at all, .mkv

Tried Daum Potplayer and works perfectly. Also seems to handle multiple screens better than VLC.

MPC really that good? I may need to check it out

Still having issues too. I keep getting pixels that are green during action scenes in addition to lag. 1.3 nightly was working great with everything including 10bit. I need something that is going to work consistently. I don't want to keep waiting for updates.

Blu-ray support seems to be slightly worse than before. The individual .m2ts files play back just fine, as they do in earlier versions, but attempting to open a folder containing a backed-up BD results in the "VLC does not support the audio or video format 'undf'" error. For example:

VLC 1.1.11:

VLC 2.0.0:

I know BD support in 2.0 is labelled as "experimental", but I was expecting it to be at least functionally identical to earlier versions, while hoping for proper BD file/folder structure support.

I thought potplayer was like the go to player now. Add in MadVR and you're set.

I have a 60fps file that it does play....in 30fps.

I don't see much difference and I guess it's alright that way.

Noticed this too. That IS a nice feature.

I was hoping this could be iTunes-esque and show all of my media but, despite the Media Library heading it seems it can't.
Every time I quit and reopen both Library and Playlists appear empty, despite saving numerous playlist files.
What am I doing wrong?
