This hit me like a ton of bricks today. I remember the hype before the big devices launched, how it seems it has fallen of big time....do the point I forgot it even exists. How is it progressing? As anticipated or not living up to the initial visions?

You simply haven't been paying attention. Threads about VR won't dominate NeoGAF since the user base is small (and before you ask: no, that's not a sign of trouble), not because there's lack of enthusiasm. If you want to see it, seek it out.
I think Sony seems to be doing it right. The GameStop I went to only had 6 VR headsets ordered. Hopefully that means everyone who ordered it the first day can get oneThey effectively managed to kill the hype with those disastrous launches, people waiting to get their months after the official release day is awful.
Our only hope is that Sony delivers, and from day one.
There main threads are about the machines. I don't think I've seen one VR game OT. Kinda telling.

It needs a killer app first. Even if the price is outrageous a killer app will have people clamoring, and then the market will figure out a way to make the price accessible. Less incentive for rapid mainstreaming when people like the concept but not the actual software.
its behind a $1300+ paywall with a small amount of decent games
Again, the user base is too small. A thread about a VR game would get pushed so far down the thread list that it would die almost instantly. Talk is kept to the main VR threads.
Guys, this stuff is readily available in the VR threads. Why are you asking questions, and making implications, that could easily be answered and refuted by looking there?
VR got overhyped and it underdelivered.
I see people are still overly defensive about Vr. Vr hype indeed died down alil especially when we were getting thread after thread about them. That has nothing to do with if they're successful or not of course but op is right somewhatThis thread is really fucking depressing. Not because of its implications to VR's success (fucking lol), but to ongoing lack of common sense regarding the topic.
According to whom? The number of people disappointed in their VR headsets (and it's mild disappointment that doesn't overshadow their enthusiasm) is vastly outnumbered by the people who are impressed with the product.
You might be reading opinions by people who don't own a VR headset, and who are being sour grapes about it.

Literally no way to know this.
This forum is not the end all be all of gaming. Even if it was you can't speak for everyone.. That's not rocket scienceThis forum is literally a literal way to know this. Just read the threads. Holy shit, you'd think this was rocket science or something.
