Walmart in-store Wii U preorders begin 10/14

Got two pre-orders. The "tard" pack at GS and the Super Awesome Pack or Epicness at Walmart. If Walmart doesn't come through, I can always drop by GS.

I really don't care which version I get, so long as I get one tomorrow :D

Yup. Sounds like whoever he talked to didn't know what they were talking about.
 
Just got back from my local 24 hour walmart and they had about 7 wii u boxes to sell (3 deluxe and 4 basic) but wouldn't let the people who pre-ordered it get it until layaway opens at 9am in the morning. I'm pretty pissed, especially since when I called earlier to find out the details the layaway just didn't pick up, but whatever. In hindsight I probably should have picked up the last deluxe they had and sold my pre-order one, but there was some kids who had been waiting since 4pm to get one since they didn't pre-order and I had walked in only 15 minutes before, so I didn't want to rob them of a wii u. Hopefully things will go smooth in the morning.
 
Only 3 people showed at my Walmart. Earlier in the day they told me that as long as I was in the store at midnight the manager would ring it up. At 12:05 someone came by asking what we were waiting for, then went and got the manager. Few minutes later and I was walking out of the store with my system. They weren't set up to sell any accessories or other games though so I'll have to go do that in the morning. Until then I have NintendoLand and Assassin's Creed III to keep me busy. After this system update is done downloading that is.

I was a layaway preorderer btw - and this wasn't a 24-hour store. They closed at midnight.

Kind of fucked up the people who thought to preorder get shafted on the midnight release. Fucked up indeed.
 
It makes a perverse sense in that those who pre-ordered don't have to get up in the middle of the night to ensure getting a system. Of course in a perfect world they would have the option of doing so.
 
They had 3 Deluxes and 3 Basics. I was the only preorder that showed up. The employee had a little bit of trouble figuring out how to do ring up my layaway, but figured it out after a minute or so.

Sucks for people who can't get theirs tonight. As soon as I got there I told him I preordered and he said that I would be good to go.
 
Ugh, got there to late and had to wait awhile for a manager. Had a helpful guy as well and it was finally going well and then two different credit cards crapped out on me. No idea why as they both have a high enough limit on them. Should have paid it off in full. Stupid stupid me. Guess I'll be back in the morning.
 
Showing up randomly at Wal-Mart met with success. I landed a Deluxe (I got the last one) though I felt/feel bad because I also have a pre-order at TRU so I didn't really need to take the last one.

Same here. It's bullshit. The layaway dept was supposed to be open right?
 
Wow I feel for you guys that got screwed. Ours was cool. Had two of them there and waiting. One retrieved the consoles while the other rang us up. Even offered everyone some cupcakes right before they started ringing everyone up.

And I knew it would happen too. You guys remember the initial clusterfuck of Walmarts not even knowing about the preorders when it started.
 
Went to two Walmarts about an hour and 30 minutes before launch, respectively, but all the first come first serve ones were already spoken for. I live in Raleigh, NC which is kind of a big area, but not that big. Was kind of surprised to read all the success stories on here. Makes me feel bummed.
 
I had mine reserved but got it at midnight no problem. We only had seven people in line though, right in the business shopping area of OKC. My friend didn't pre-order but walked out of the store with three Wii Us- one for him, one for his brother and one to sell.

They only had four whites as I recall and eight deluxe (all but three reserved). They even had a cake made for the occasion, which was slightly disappointing considering the small turnout.
 
My friend and I got our systems no problem. Took us to layaway at 1:30ish. Smooth. Only had AC3, Scribblenauts, and a dance game I think. Have the first two on the way from newegg so ill pick up Mario from Target tomorrow. Nintendoland is a lot of fun. Have 4 friends over right now.
 
Yeah, went smooth at my Walmart. Only 3 people showed up for their pre-orders (as opposed to the huge line hoping to get regularly sold consoles).

The Walmart got 80 Wii U's; 72 for layaway pre-orders, 4 black for regular sale and 4 white for regular sale.
 
Mine went pretty smoothly, they split up the lines between layaways and preorders, there were probably about 14 people there total at midnight. A few people showed up to try their luck, but the Walmart was out of extras. Not sure why they didn't have a game stand right next to the layaway section, though it's a 24 hour Walmart so the game section was still open.
 
just about to go to the layaway this thread will prove to be the greatest OP ever because I did not know if I was going to get a Wii U without this preserve thing :)
 
My experience was hilariously incompetent at the beginning, but once it flowed it flowed man. Lotsa happy teenagers and me and the gf. Good times.
 
My Walmart had about 20 people there at midnight. They had at least 10 deluxe consoles (that I saw) but you could only pick them up if you had a preorder (guess they were all preordered) but you could get a basic white one first come first serve. There were only a few people behind me when I left and it seemed everybody got what they wanted except for one guy who hadn't preordered but wanted a deluxe, store told him they didn't have any for non-preorders and he left without getting a basic white one. They didn't have ZombiU and only a few copies of NSMBU that quickly sold out but had a lot of other crap like Just Dance 4. Overall it went well.
 
Came at midnight. Told to come back at 9 AM. Here at 9 and they are "buried" in the back so we need to wait forever. Wonderful.
 
So guess which store didn't actually get any deluxe units in? And since I didn't preorder the Basic (since when the fuck did they take preorders on these?!), I couldn't even get one of those.

Amazed at this one person who thinks it doesn't.

Also, my consoles were in a cardboard outer box, got mine lickety split. Still haven't had a chance to crack the seal on them.
 
I got my console after 12 am this morning. The only people that showed up were the ones getting the 8 spare consoles (4 deluxe, 4 basic). My brother and I were the only preorder pick ups.

Again big thanks to Mello for the heads up.
 
Wow. Walked into my local Wal Mart. Not the one I bought mine at and went to buy BLOPS 2 and they had 3 of each model sitting in the cabinets ready to buy. Kind of sad really.
