Walmart in-store Wii U preorders begin 10/14

I walked into my Wal-Mart this past Monday and pre ordered with no problems (Houston, TX). You have to go to the lay away section - I asked the people in Electronics and they told me I'd have to wait until 11/18/12, but walked over to lay away and they knew exactly what to do.

Yup. Don't even bother with electronics. They're out of the loop on this. It appears to be entirely management and layaway that are handling this.

I paid my walmart preorder off today, but now I get home and read that I should have left at least one cent left on the balance so that I can pick up the system on launch day. The cashier at the register made no mention of it. Anyone in the know think I'm going to have a problem on Nov. 18?

I left .18 cents on mine because of this thread alone but I had two different people in layaway tell me I could pay it all. So if they knew they would have a problem WalMart should have gotten the word out better. I would not worry about it. You should find your Wii U sitting in your box back there by the time the stores start to get them on the 14th.

If they are so clueless maybe we can go early and try to get them to break street dates :)

Maybe I'll try to reach a manager next week just to make sure I'm good to go.

I just want a place to preorder a Wii U. I got caught up in the Black Ops hype, but I can't find a Wii U basic anywhere. Will Walmart stores be getting excess supply in addition to their preorders?

Not that I'm excited to drive to Crenshaw to find a Walmart....

Hm forgot to update but yea... so i went to wrong section. I got my preorder. I question whether if i can afford to wait or just show up come midnight.

edit:meanwhile a gaffer from houston too? Hope yer not competition.

there should be no problem in walking in a store and getting a WiiU on launch day, the real problem comes a week later and the next few months after launch

I don't see the bundles, though...

Doesn't look like it's listed anymore. They might have sold out finally.

Wal-Mart only took layaway orders for the deluxe. Safe to say they'll have the basic model for walk-ins.

anyone getting the vibe, like, it doesn't really matter? (serious question)

not sure if you mean if pre-order matters?

I would think it matters only if you want to guaranteed hassle free day one.
otherwise a few extra hours of driving to different locations on the 18th should easily score a Wii U.
We will learn if it matters when the time comes.

Is it worth it to go to the midnight launch? My Walmart took like 90 preorders which worries me a bit. It's a pretty big walmart over here and the girl at layaway said the system would stop them when they hit the limit. Should I just show up Sunday morning of hit up the midnight?

The amount of preorders Wal-Mart took definitely makes me a little nervous. I'm going at midnight just to be safe.

It depends on how badly you want your WII U. If you must have it that night then go and wait in line to pick it up. If you just want it but don't care if it's the next day then wait till the next morning because it will still be there. They're going to put your name on one when they receive the inventory.

Target also has pre-order cards, though I think they've had them for ~a week, so some stores may be sold out of them. They have them for both the basic and deluxe.

Well ladies and gents Walmart just out canceled the preorder I had because they said they took in too many layaway orders ( I imagine they got the packages in today). From talking to the manager it appears the situation is this:
If your Walmart knew what they were doing they should have kept a list with the order and number of preorders as they went along in a folder. Many Walmarts had no idea what they were doing and did not do this.

If your Walmart did not do this WiiU units will be handed out on a first come first serve basis to people that come in with their layaway receipt. I was recommended a few Walmarts in the area that were not keeping lists and told to go ton one of those.

Lovely.

Y'know, weren't they supposed to call me to give me more info on how to pick my unit up by now? Because I haven't gotten such a phone call yet. Do I show up at midnight? Sunday morning? What?

I've had a feeling that this was going to be one huge holy mess the entire time. It seemed like they were taking way too many preorders, along with the person who took mine not knowing that you're supposed to leave a balance on the order.

I'll be calling soon to see what's up.

Surprise. Wal-Mart can't fulfill the massive amount of preorders they took.

Guess I'll have to be there around 10pm. Smh...

For as slapdash as the entire process looked it's not surprising that it's falling apart along the way. Not that that makes it any less awful for the people who are affected, of course.

wait I got like 18 cents left on that shit... no way can they cancel but yeah I did not see them writing anything down. Going tomorrow to see what is up

My store was actually using a list and I was told that I was the last one to have a unit guaranteed so I think that's how every store should have managed this situation. At least that's what I hope for.

That's the problem. Your store had a competent manager. A lot will not be so lucky.

Yeah, I'm not spending that many hours at WalMart. I mean, shit, I was listening on the radio on the way to work this morning, and it made the news over a shooting at the location. Non-life-threatening, fortunately, but still, I'm not dying (literally) for a Wii U. I don't need NintendoLand in my life that desperately.

How did you find this out? Did they call you? You call them?

At the Walmart I went to they scanned the bar code on the memo, wrote down my name on a list alongside how many I was getting (1). Hopefully I should be fine. I just tried calling them but no response. >:(

If they just had a shooting at your location what are the chances of having a second shooting at the same location in the same month?

Question...I have my system and Mario completely paid off at GameStop. If I'm able to procure one at midnight from Walmart, will GameStop refund my money in full?

They called me this morning. I was technically the second person in the store to have done the layaway. However, they didnt start properly doing the lay away thing until after me so I suppose I somehow got tossed down the pile.

Not that I'm excited to drive to Crenshaw to find a Walmart....

Crenshaw? As in LA's Crenshaw? Hmm, good luck.
