Want an early-access code for the Lost Planet 2 multiplayer demo?

Went from being pretty excited to really disappointed. The PS3 demo isn't very good looking and the controls in general are shit (also PS3 version uses R2 to shoot).

When I get home I might try it on my 360 but I seriously doubt it'll make a difference.

I think you'll be suprised. 360 footage looks/runs alot better from what I've seen at this point.

Either I'll pass completely on this, just not play the MP or wait for the PC version ....ahh, who am I kidding. I'll just wait to see how this turns out.

As peeps on this board know, I'm a massive Lost Planet fan ....and this is a pretty big dissapointment =(

It just feels so jank. I don't know if it's because i'm playing on the PS3, shooting with R2, MT Framework not being able to render jungles well, tearing/shitty performance, woefully uneven visuals, poo poo map, lag, etc.
Something isn't right. The fact that this is being released next month doesn't leave me with enthusiam either.

I still loved the coop demo from a couple of months back though

I'm surprised that a huge Lost Planet fan didn't have the game on 360 or PC. I mean the PS3 port was awful, plus you missed out on the amazing Colonies edition.

You can tell the 360 is also having trouble with the newly beefed up MT 2.0 engine. However, framerate and tearing are not issues with the 360 version, just image quality.

Honestly as a huge LP fan I am seriously considering building a gaming PC specifically for LP2. I'm really hoping there is cross platform play again *crosses fingers*.

I've have Lost Planet: Extreme Condition on PC (haven't bought Colonies on PC as I don't know if there is a community anymore) and owned it on 360 back in the day. Yeah I knew the original PS3 version was nasty and this one isn't that much of an improvement it seems.

fuck you Capcom. you FUCKED UP.
getting the code was a hassle/ chore.
but it didn't even work in ANY way.

Also, from what i read, you fucked up a potentially good game series.

fuck this game. S.E.R.I.O.U.S.L.Y.

Yeah?
I'd want to play it with a controller, so are kids still playing on 360?

It is one of the few 360 games with PC-360 cross platform play.

In fact it was (still is?) free to play with a silver account for this very reason ( I went silver for close to a year when I was heavily into Colonies).

WOW, just wow. I have tried for hours to get this, and than i get this? What an absolute pile of shit. Dodgy twitchy controls, horrible, horrible graphics, bad framerate, terrible lag, must i go on? Everything about this demo is rubbish. Why on earth would Capcom give us this? After playing the Co-op demo i was so excited, but really i am not now, and dont even want the game. Can someone tell me why the co-op demo looked good and played well, with tight controls, but this feels so shit?

Anyway, played a few games and deleted. -1 sale Capcom.

Can someone please tell me how this game is as big as it is? Is it because it came out early in the 360's life and gave so much at the time? Because honestly, the controls are so clunky. It tries to be a TPS in the vein of Gears, even the running is the same with the camera, yet its basically Resident Evil controls, which so many people hate, as they are, well, just crap!

If you enjoyed the coop, couldn't you just get it for the coop?

Anyway, I think the multiplayer demo just doesn't show the multiplayer in a good light. I loved the multiplayer in the original (especially in more unique modes like Akrid Hunt or Fugitive), but this multiplayer demo is too limited and not easy to get into. The game is very different than most shooters. For instance the normal assault rifle isn't that great for killing enemies, but it's the best weapon for continuously stunning enemies.

I'm curious, what terrible lag are people experiencing? I never experienced anything bad with the netcode in LP1 or in this demo.

Yeah i could, but after seeing this demo i am worried. That was my point. It may just be because this is multiplayer, but isnt that what co-op is? Why have the controls become so twitchy, and why have the graphics gone so bad? Also i NEVER had lag in co op, but this is unplayable.

The co-op demo may have been great, but all of a sudden things have taken a turn for the worst in all departments and i dont understand why. It cant be because its MP because co-op is as well, so what is it? Also with the game a month away, i would love to know what build this is from. Because we saw the difference in God Of War 3, so it could be the same. But still things are not looking good.

Disappointed. Clearly sub-HD, tearing all over the place, bunch of framerate hiccups. 8 control layouts but none of them let you fire with R1 *sigh*

Going to redownload the co-op demo and try that again because I really don't remember it being as bad as this.

Finally had a chance to check the game out last night, and man did I get steamrolled.

New to LP, any tips or guide out there?

That's a real shame about the PS3 graphics.

I am no digital foundry expert, but the 360 version also looks sub-HD, although framerate and tearing are not issues with it.

Framework MT 2.0 tech is too much for the current gen systems. PC version should be off the chain.

I really wanted this to be good, but it is undeniably awful. What the fuck Capcom?

Constant grenade spam, as noted by others. The lag is bizarre and people were warping all over my screen, teammates and enemies, always while playing on US hosts. Both teammates and enemies show up on your minimap as the same red dots. No anchoring on "ladder" surfaces, which you have to slowly climb, during which getting shot freezes you in place. Wrap this all up with I-frame roll abuse and you get easily the least appealing shooter I've ever played in multiplayer, undoubtedly.

No Akrid Hunter in MP as well, apparently. So, the one redeeming game mode from Colonies that was not a derivative tdm/ctf round in the LP universe is taken out, amazing. Oh well, back to Halo this fall, there goes any hopes this would be worth a shit online outside of coop.

I guess its because right now, there are just a few people with the demo (early unlock?) and alot of those people are from various other countries. Those are probably the people who are lagging.

Well when playing in a game where the majority of people are from NA.

i assume everyone who hates it so far in this thread is playing it on ps3? Since you didnt bother to tell us what system, thats the safest assumption

I cant see them changing so much that it sucks now. But thats just my opinion cuz i loved the first one

just played a game and got ROCKED.

only downside i see so far is

1) i suck
2) i didnt see any mechs :( the mechs exploding was the best part of 1
3) i didnt find 1 single weapon..other than my starting gun

edit: also what the hell is the point of an EARLY access beta? I mean seriously...a beta is already limited enough, now you limit the players even more..its a multiplayer beta..you need PEOPLE to test the game.

Pretty soon there will be early EARLy beta access for the true elite.

The PS3 demo can be shared like the GOW3 Demo right? I'm willing to donate a PSN account that has the demo if someone is willing to manage the share list.

Played a lot of lost planet colonies last night and it's so much better then this lp2 demo. I just finished playing the demo only to be pissed off that my mg was doing nothing, a guy lag teleported behind a post and then kills me with about 5 mg bullets :/ Lost planet 1 has it's problems but they have done something to this sequel which to me makes it rather bad. It also makes no sence that the magnum shoots less range then the mg does lol.

I am rather upset, I think they changed too many subtle things that it's broken the core gameplay of lost planet multiplayer in some way.

Now excuse me while I go play more colonies.

You really should get the PC version of Colonies. Because it's a GFWL cross-play title as long as people still play the 360 version there will be a community. Besides that it's more optimized and runs noticeably smoother than the original version (at least on my machine).

i havent noticed to many changes, then again i didnt play to religiously. even though i loved the first one

I think im gonna play some colonies today. One thing i always hated about LP was that you get knocked down to easily and then you cant get back up because you just get shot. in LP2 i noticed the grenade damage was just ridiculous i was getting blown up quite a bit

Yeah 60fps at 1440x900, full dx10 details and medium shadows, so awesome.

Also depending on the time of the day you will find multiple lobbies in progress, it's still got good legs and it's more popular again due to lp2 coming out soon. You get a lot of japanese players but 16 player rooms are a plenty in the evenings (gmt at least)

Best thing to do is instantly roll away if someone is waiting for you to stand up, and explosions are vital to winning in lost planet so :P get use to it is all I can say.

I find it's best to keep distance when fighting, once you are both face to face the game just doesn't work unless you have a shotgun.

I also played Colonies for a couple of hours last night but I don't necessarily agree. Colonies has a better image quality, no doubt, but beyond that Colonies has significantly worse grenade spam, netcode, and rolling nonsense.

I think the best bet would be to compile a short list of changes we want to see to this game based on the experiences in the demo. Lost Planet 1 did have a major day one patch after demo feedback, after all.

Capcom, please patch Lost Planet 2 so:
1.) players can grapple onto a ladder
2.)
3.)

I just think the game is fundamentally broken right now, there are so many strange decisions at play in this demo. During Elimination, you can spawn basically wherever you want with a live camera directly over the spawn point, so you can wait for an ambush as a disembodied camera. Awesome. Similarly, the "data posts" in Elimination apparently control your radar, but that is made entirely pointless based on the fact that an enemy can just choose to spawn somewhere else or right next to the old data post you just put up. It's like some sort of a practical joke. Most of the full 8v8 rounds of Post Grab that I've played end with the top players having 2-3 kills, with most players seeing absolutely 0 action :lol

Can I please get a 360 code? I will give you a 1 month free of Xbox Live. It is also my birthday, please.

I might be wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure if you have the defensive boost, you can still shoot even while taking fire. I'm gonna start whoring the Injection Gun a lot more now.

Now that's just straight up wrong. Either that or you're playing with some really shitty people.

Mechs are usually on top of the buildings or in the bottom southwest/southeast corners. Weapons are usually inside/under buildings.

When playing with decent players on both ends (team based games ftw) its great. People actually using shields, setting up sniping/rocket positions, using turrets, etc.

Anyway, isnt grenade spam a problem in any game with grenades? Especially if you start with 4 of em?

Not sure what purpose the custom loadout serves before going into a game, but if players dont choose one, I think they should default to 2 grenades. And yes, players need to be able to grapple onto ladder surfaces (vines, grates, fences, actual ladders, etc.).

I'll take you up on that, give me a minute and I'll shoot a pm your way.

Playing it a bit more, I'm not quite as down on it as I was to begin with, but yeah, it's pretty shitty compared to Colonies. Parts of that could be fixed just by a better map, but there's still some pretty fundamental problems:

- Respawning is really poorly handled. Being able to choose your spawn point, along with seeing what's going on in that part of the map beforehand, creates the really dumb situation where you can spawn right on top of somebody with five seconds of total invulnerability, while they can neither see you coming, nor do anything about you once you're there. This completely ruins modes like Post Grab, because there's no realistic way to win a match where eight people are constantly spawning, invincible, on top of the only remaining point being contested.
Keep the invincibility-on-spawn from LP1, or let people choose where to spawn. Not both.
- Grenades are far more open for abuse. Compared to LP1, the radius in which a grenade will damage you seems to be larger, and the damage you take in that radius seems to be higher. On top of that, the shock radius in which you don't take damage, but get knocked around, is more punishing. In LP1, to be knocked completely down by a grenade, you usually needed to either be in the air, or be close enough to the explosion that you took actual damage. If you were just tagged a bit by the edge of the shock, you would flinch, or stumble, which would interrupt your actions, but wouldn't leave you completely prone to attack. In LP2, you almost always get knocked right down onto the ground, making you much less able to roll away and/or defend yourself.
Just reduce the effectiveness across the board; otherwise the game will actually just be about grenade spamming.
- Rolling definitely feels clunked up. I don't know if the recovery is just longer or what, but the whole action is pretty gutted compared to the first game. Rolling was pretty much the reason that players without power weapons could sometimes have a chance against players who did have them, and it's almost the only reason that machine gun duels were a lot of fun. The latter is really hurting this demo, especially on a map like this where there alternatives to the machine gun are few and far between.

Every other big grievance I've still got with the game is related to either the horrible map they picked for it, and/or the limited options the demo gives you. Obviously those ladders need to go, or at least the anchor should be able to get you anywhere you need to be, and there really should be at least 2-3x the number of weapon drops that the map has now. But fixing the more 'core' problems with the game should take priority over that, because it really drags it down compared to Colonies. If they cleared up some of that stuff, the newer mechanics like the shields, injection gun, new VSes, etc would really make it the better game.

I just went 28-0 :lol. Plasma Gun :bow. Too bad the game still ended in a draw.

You have invincibility on re-spawn, but just like in Colonies, you lose invincibility if you shoot or throw a grenade. The respawning can be annoying, but since you can totally disrupt a re-spawn point by dropping the post one notch, it's not too bad.

Plasma gun in this lp2 demo is great, you have so much t-eng that you never run out of ammo, one game I just camped back and sprayed plasma shots at the enemy, they could do little back because they had no ranged weapons. In the end I ate a grenade but it took them a good 5 minutes to get close.

It should be since you can still play the game cross platform, I don't think ms will pull the plug on that any time soon.
