Want Yakuza 3? Tell Sega

Its speculating but I wonder if they have been trying to do a JP VA-only release that has been getting shot down by SCEA. Maybe they will use the Agarest trick if the other way didn't work.

DD-only in USA, disc release in Europe. With the JP VA only, cutting localization costs, removing stock related problems (no price collapses, overshipments, sold-outs and limited shelf life) and maybe even getting more money for each copy in NA via DD (I suppose SEGA would see more money from a 49.99$ download than a 59.99$ retail copy). Of course, it isn't all good news, a DD-only release narrows an already tiny userbase (both the userbase that has bought Yakuza in the past and the PS3 own userbase, I mean).

I'd pick it up though :)

Welp, I'm putting my money down on Ignition Entertainment then
lol, if true, Mangod would either evolve into Mangod^2, or he would faint and never be revived at the pokecenter, depending on how sales go down, lolz D:

After the clusterfuck that was the KOF12 release, he lost his mangod title. :(

I'll take this and Kenzan over any other games they have coming in the near future.

i'd take 7th dragon and culdcept over every ps3 game they have coming out in the next 5 years

Ok... What will be considered a hit in Sega's point of view? We must come together and divide that number by all us Yakuza heads in neogaf... :D That way we ensure the simultaneous release of Yakuza 4 in the west
and a special edition of Kenzan
.

Awesome news, finally a reason to buy a PS3 (read that SONY? I'll buy your console just because of Yakuza 3)

Man I can't wait to put my hands on that game, I think I'll even take some days off from work =)

Okay, this time fucking advertise it, Sega. Release it in a less packed month, run a TV ad and some grassroots web stuff like you did when the Valkyria DLC hit, actually make people aware this game exists and is coming out and people MIGHT FUCKING BUY IT.

It was infuriating watching them use Yakuza 2 sales as a reason, when they didnt advertise the game's release at all and even most of GAF was like "oh that came out?!" which says a lot.

I'm pretty sure SEGA isn't going to spend a single dollar advertising it.

We all will in their place, then. I already know four people who will "OMG" around when they will hear this news.

As much as I love Shane, I'm worried that he'll run Ignition Entertainment into the ground by picking assured bombas. :lol

EDIT: Though you can't blame Ignition for how KoFXII turned out.

WarDevil, KoFXII, Yakuza 3... although who knows what their requirements are to break even on publishing these... I can't see Yakuza being cheap to distribute or (presumably) helping share the burden of localization.

Just sayin', publishers aren't usually interested in advertising for someone else's release.

i didn't care for the demo at all.

knowing that is there any reason why i should consider playing the first two?

oh and is the VA going to be translated this time? i sure hope so.

and dont change the music (!) not one bit…

…if sega archives to do this all my hate for this company will be gone xD

Release it in Yurop first with subtitles only and release it later in NA because you had to dub the game. :lol

DO IT. SEGA!

It seems like I'll be ordering Yakuza 2 soon, then, if this is actually happening. I really digged the first game.

I bought Yakuza second hand for cheap as I was unsure about it, but I'll definitely get 2 and 3 new because I realise now how desperately I need to support this franchise.

Man! And I was going on a gaming hiatus too. This & Sakura Wars are exceptions that need a day 1 purchase regardless of what my plans are. :lol

Is Ignition anywhere near large enough to handle Yakuza 3? Seems like there's a crapton of text to handle, even if they don't dub it.
It's without a doubt Ignition. And no worries, they don't do localization in house anyways.

You people have go to be fucking kidding me... does anyone even know how much they fucked up KOF XI? They called called Tizoc Mai, FFS! And the 50 hz mode was all messed up, with a blue bar on the bottom of the screen and graphical glitches. No to mention text going out of screen and shit like that.

Please, God, no Ignition.

Demo seemed alright until it crashed (stupid download bug) but I'd probably buy for the collection. Gave up playing the 2nd, so I'm not sure I'd even be bothered to play this...

Well, at least Ignition already has experience localizing games without giving them proper dubs (Muramasa)! At least Yakuza has already had a history with that kind of localization.

If this proves to be true, I will buy Yakuza 1 and 2. The main reason I didn't was because I was afraid they wouldn't localize them.

Too little, too late. I'm happy that western gamers can finally play this game because it's a solid title, but this really should have happened when Yakuza 3 was released earlier this year or a few months after. Announcing that it's going to be localized NOW, after most of its fans probably gave up and imported the JPN version, is pretty stupid. It's not really Ignition's fault though, and I wish them the best on localizing this title.

I doubt it'll matter one way or the other. The language barrier on the game is high enough that only a small percentage of the hardcore fans are likely content with just owning the JP version, even if they did import it.

This seems kinda lose-lose for Ignition, though. If it does well, SEGA will just ride off the success and publish the next one themselves. If it doesn't... well, for Ignition's sake, I hope they aren't betting the piggy bank on this.

I am in Tokyo right now and I was just about to pick up a copy here.

Now, I can just wait it out and not blow my mind trying to figure it all out with my kindergarten level Japanese.

Kotaku party tomorrow night and TGS over the weekend. Woot!

Muramasa: The Demon Blade turned out fine, kept JP voices, and even the Japanese music in the credits (the vocals I mean were left alone)

I'll be happy just getting the game subtitled...I can tolerate Japanese voices as long as there are subs so I can understand. Also, when a game is set in Japan specifically, I want to hear Japanese voices. =D
