Warcraft - Leaked SDCC Footage

To be honest i think the most potentially fascinating thing about this movie will be to see the impact it has on the WoW playerbase

do you think there is any chance it explodes back to peak or close-to-peak from a few years past?

It got pretty close with Warlords of Draenor's launch. The subsequent lack of endgame content and abysmal patches killed the momentum, though.

I'm confused. For years, people would look at Blizzard's cinematic intros and say that Blizzard should just make a movie with this animation. Now that they do, everyone is bitching about it.

Yeah, it looks good. I'll wait for a proper trailer to judge, but I like what I saw. It would be awesome if Blizzard announce a HD version of the Warcraft 1 and 2 (with expansions) at BlizzCon 2015 to celebrate the trailer/movie. At least we know that they have some people working on the classic games.

I think it's because it was billed as a live action Warcraft film. Where as it's barely one. If it was billed from the start as a CGI warcraft movie in style of the trailers I think it would be received more positively.

Honestly a lot of this just knee jerk reactions, with camera quality that bad almost anything cgi was look bad.

I hadn't actually read any impressions. It seems like there's a battle scene were missing. This quote is kind of squashing what little hype I hAve left after that clip though:

Yea, that has killed all my hype.

Everything is CG? Fucking hell, Warcraft would be THE franchise to use amazing practical effects to bring the world to life. I have a feeling we're about to get The Hobbit style CG.

Hype deflated

Exactly

I knew this shit was going to happen too. I love it tough, its just what i wanted

Im glad its not another generic middle earth movie

It's always the opposite for me. CG tends to look better when it's shot offscreen with a cell phone, because it obscures the uncanny valley movement, and look of the CG models. Here it's plain as day.

I'm confused how people can critique a movie not released yet based on low quality cam footage of spliced footage not intended to be an actual trailer.

This video is designed to just show progress on the movie. It's a movie slated to release in 2016.

Yeah that sounds disappointing too, but ultimately the story is what matters. If they actually manage to make a character-driven story then I'll forgive a lot of lazy CGI wand-waving.

looks like Warcraft. Makes sense, not getting the complaints

This is what happened

The first few post were negative and then everyone else just likes to pile on

They read the first few post and then watch the footage and the negativity sticks in their mind

i'm not nearly as concerned about the look of the movie as i am how boring and pandering the writing was. there's zero doubt in my mind this will look fine.

Actually the video does that by itself. the guy actually mocks the film pretty much immediately.

I watched it twice. The first time I was disappointed. The second time I was cautiously optimistic. It's not the type of footage you get in a normal trailer and the image and sound quality was terrible, but if you can get past that it looks okay. I really like how they're treating the Orcs.

I think, when you throw in human characters, it's gonna look something like Sin City or 300. I think it'll look good, but there'll be a deliberate artifice about it. That's the vibe I got from it. It's definitely not going for a completely photorealistic vibe.

Is there a better quality version then the potato leak? If not how exactly are you guys judging the CGI quality?

Looked pretty cool. Hard to tell how good the CGI looks, but this movie has another year post production, so hopefully the vfx will be tight. Still think this has the potential to be the first great videogame adaptation.

Well I can see why they didn't officially release this footage.

And with most of the reactions in this thread, I can see why film companies just don't want to release or stream their conferences.

To get accurate feedback on how something is going to go over?

Also, not sure who thought this was actually going to be anything less than a CG fest. Needs Based JJ to bring it to life

Fuck off with the orc fetish already. You've already told this story in the ideal way... Genocidal monsters slam head-first into a fantasy land of green fields and bunny rabbits.

The humanism bullshit comes in the second film.

People I know who were in the room and weren't Warcraft fans thought it looked cool. This footage isn't really representative of the actual presentation.

Bro Mortal Kombat was fine (the first one). I can't think of better adaptation of the game. The films theme is even more iconic than the games (hell it's the defacto MK theme). Of course the games it's based on storyline is pretty mediocre so in order to be remotely faithful so would the films be also but good-great video game adaptations have existed in the past.

I think Mortal Kombat was okay and enjoyable, but not great. If you've seen some great video game adaptations feel free to list some. I personally haven't seen anything I'd call great.

Looks great, the little interaction I have with Blizzard fans always come off as dudes that think they know better than the series creators, such a weird fanbase.

Ok I want to throw some shit too!!!

This movie looks like pure raw garbage and will flop so hard it will make waterworld look like a success!!

Using practical effects on the Orcs would not work. The teeth/jaw alone would make it impossible for them to talk properly, meaning everything would be ADR'd anyway.

The vfx are complete.

Sure it's far out, but why show this knowing people hate all CG? Why not tease at the orcs and leave their full scenes for the movie?

Also, I think people realize that taking Blizzard cinematics and stretching them out into a movie does not a good movie make. Need to actually connect with characters and have good writing, not just 'epic' things that happen.

So you're angry that they don't have generic mindless evil Orcs instead of complicated, shade of grey Orcs which have never been done on film before?

I thought I was watching intro for the next WoW expansion. They can't be serious about this being Hollywood movie.
