Wasteland 2: Director's Cut |OT| Post-Apocalyptic, Post-Release Remix

Looking forward to this and DQ Heroes tomorrow, never got that far in the original due to hearing the director's cut was coming shortly after purchasing.

Also need to figure out if I want the premade characters or to make my own, premade seemed alright from my short time with the original game.

I backed the KS but never got around to play it.

Im currently playing Fallout 2 and im pretty sure I past the mid game. I don't know but im sure im gonna be disapointed of Wasteland 2 after playing Fallout 2

I'm hyped to do a third playthrough. After i finish Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn...hopefully this week so i can play it this weekend.

One important thing new players have to realize is that this game isn't like Fallout. The first half of the game is almost entirely combat focused so you need a mostly combat based party or you're going to get destroyed. It doesn't sound like they've changed that for the Director's Cut version.

Yea if people are looking for some basic party tips:

- Focus each of your party members on a different weapon type. Ammo is relatively scarce, so having 2 characters sharing an ammo type is not a great idea.
- Melee combat is quite effective, don't be afraid to have a melee specialist.
- You'll want to have your party cover all the different skills (lockpicking, computers, demolitions, safecracking, etc...) so plan which characters are going to do what and focus them on those skills.

I'd add not overlooking healing items / abilities at the start too. Early game in vanilla was pretty harsh and first party I made I quickly regretted skimping on that sort of stuff like I usually do in most games.

Yeah, early-game medics/surgeons with health kits are pretty critical when you start venturing further away from Ranger Citadel once you start getting bleeding debuffs and the like.

Speaking of which, I wonder if they've continued to rebalance NPCs and the like. I haven't played the original in a long while, but I seem to recall some of them getting reworks to better 'fit' their backstory.

Also if you happen to playy a few hours and feel you get a better grasp of the gameplay mechanics and want a better team, don't be afraid to restart with the knowledge you now have.

Just played for a couple hours on Xbox One and I'm starting over. Don't get attached to your first characters.

I disagree. Vendors had enough ammo for sale that I really had no worries. Just make sure to avoid all random encounters until you're rolling in loot. Pretty sure ammo only becomes an issue if a) you burst fire all the time and b) you don't prioritise your weapon skill to make sure your cth isn't depressing.

Unless major things have changed since vanilla: equip each of your characters with an assault rifle. They are superior to every other weapon, almost all the time. You can buy some completely silly ones early in the game as well. ARs start out good, and stay good right up until the very end.

This was such a prominent (and obvious) strategy that I hope the enhanced edition did a balance pass on all the weapons.

Hi guys, just a couple quick questions. Is Intelligence still the king stat or are the stats better balanced now? Also are there more viable weapon types or is it still assault rifles all the way?

Slightly worried about the size of the text for the PS4 version.

Seems like it might be a little too small to read comfortably from the distance that I sit from the TV.

Hopefully there will be some high quality streams later and can better judge..

Any ideas if a demos planned on console? XCom worked well on console but I'd like to try this especially if controls aren't optimised and text size is too small.

Looks like it's got a text size option, hopefully it's on the console version as well:

Well the switch to Unity 5 definitely improved things. It looks much better (mostly due to improved textures which obviously have nothing to do with the engine change) but it's also running much smoother. Doesn't feel so... rickety I guess?

Game looks better, but the camera seems off. I don't know what it is, but it didn't feel like this in the original.

Text default is medium. Which is close to being small even on pc. I bumped it up to large for now.

Playing this on my TV, finally after being an original backer.

Aaaah, feels great so far.

Yea the camera zoom feels like it's closer and zooming out just seems to switch to a straight overhead view.

In an unrelated note, they just put out a Launch Trailer.

The new camera is awful. Can see way, way less. A suspicious person may suggest it's been done to maintain the same level of performance so they don't have to raise the system requirements.

Hopefully they fix it ASAP or someone can mod in a fix.

So the store page seems to indicate that you get Wasteland 2 and the director's cut if you buy the game now. Anyone know if that's accurate? I assumed the old version would be removed from the store, if I'd known you would still get both versions of the game after the director's cut came out I would have waited for a much better sale.

It's not an update on Steam, you need to download it separately.

Hmm, shows that it's already in my library. "Wasteland 2: Director's Cut is already in your Steam library". I get the "Play Now" button. Maybe I just need to delete my local files, and re-download it.

Originally my problems with the game were mainly:
combat is a bit too slow
exploration is quite slow, especially if you have to back track

I'll probably give it another shot. I did get somewhat far the first time. But really the thing I hated most was having to retrace your steps at times because your group moves so damn slow on the local maps.

You'll have both versions of the games show up in your library. Just find the right one.

Yeah, new camera feels odd.

Am surprised by how even early on they've added some stuff, even if just visually. Makes the camp you start in actually feel like a camp.

Forgot to take Perception on any of my characters. Whoops. Hoping to get a quick level up to correct that.
