Wasteland 2: Director's Cut |OT| Post-Apocalyptic, Post-Release Remix

Funny I played PS4 for a few hours now and haven't seen any lag or poor performance

Performance hiccups start to happen after you have been playing for a while. You won't notice any significant one around AG Center and such, but by the time you reach Titan's canyon or Damonta expect seconds and seconds of lag. It's like Skyrim PS3, the more you mess with the world, the worse it gets..

I've gotten this far and honestly it feels wrong. I almost feel like stopping playing would be preferable. Silly I know but, I really really don't want to lower the difficulty. It's not even the hardest difficulty. I wonder how it's even remotely possible on hardest.

Yeah for supreme jerk you would have to min/max to the extreme I would think...I don't even want to think about it lol. Especially without the NPC group members to help

What a fun game, really takes me back to playing Fallout 1&2 for the first time.

Just wish quickload would be faster on the PS4, these 26% alarm disarm fails are wasting my time so much :P

Hrm, just upgraded rad suits to +5. California does seem quite a bit more enjoyable than Arizona, even with all the loldamage the CotC tend to cause. Might be largely due to the color palette and yknow, towns.

Ah, went through the fight just now. Yeah. Yeesh. Could abuse the system and have your three party members rush to one of the corners of the map then send the one with the highest speed to trigger the event and run back to relative safety, then take out the mob that'll spawn on your chosen corner (which seemed to be mostly melee) and run a lap around the map, trying to avoid the center.

TBH my snipers kinda tore those guys apart from max range with impunity.

It is a mystery.

Also a mystery? Why there are lvl 12+ skill lockpicking/safecracking skill checks. Or why Master Thief doesn't make those checks instant. Noooo, you gotta wait for the damn animation. Yeeesss, you'll keep retrying until it opens. Those seconds of gameplay are CRUCIAL!

Buddy beat the game on PS4 (I have his copy)...he didn't see any performance drops in his play through...he beat the vanilla game on PC last year...don't know mang, seemed like you were painting a broad brush...I'm 10 hours in and nothing performance wise so far, just frustrating encounters and small text

Nah, I'm not min/maxing that much and I'm doing ok on Supreme Jerk. I've had to replay a few of the tougher battles a couple of times but its not so bad. I also force myself to save after every critical failed skill check.

PS4 Version here. I've played about 25+ hours now.

This really takes me back to Fallout 1+2+Tactics which is great. However it could be much better on the technical side. Game has crashed at least 6 times (during loading screens) and the framerate is quite bad after 15 hours. I've been using rest mode a lot, so that might cause some of these issues.

Still enjoying the game a lot.

Same, Fallout 4 might seem very simple after playing this though :D

Heh, I'm super excited for Fallout 4 but one of my few worries about it is dialogue (and voice acting). Unfortunately dialogue for me is a huge part of RPGs. And I am even more worried that after playing Wasteland 2 it is going to spoil me with all the dialogue options I get with it :(. And make Fallout's stand out even more as lacking.

I never had faith on FO4, since it's not being made by Obsidian. Since there's no multiplayer or anything I'll wait for the inevitable "GOTY-all-DLCs-included-price-dropped" digital version.

I'm glad there is no multiplayer honestly so they can focus on a good SP experience (I'd honestly be very upset if they put in an MP aspect). MP tends to get them to start focusing on it rather than the SP cause they can make more money with MTs. Go look at how GTA V is going. They pretty much scrapped working on an SP DLC (something they had said originally they were going to do). And they don't do any updates for SP and now even the stuff they add on MP doesn't even get put in SP. That cash card money is just too much to pass up and SP DLC or any focus on it won't get them near as much money. I predict in GTA 6 there will be even less emphasis on SP (I am betting you will see GTA start going the way of COD where SP is an afterthought only put in cause they feel they have to to get you to buy the game so you'll try the MP part).

The only way I wouldn't be upset if they did MP in fallout is if it was like Elder Scrolls where it was a seperate game (and not done by Bethesda or Obsidian but let those two do the SP games).

Because of the robots. You know exactly what I mean.

I played it when it came out so my memory is a bit hazy on the details but I don't remember having any issues with it. I thought of it as a lovely, bitter-sweet stopgap until proper Fallout 3 back then and, well, we know how that turned out.

Back to Wasteland 2 DC: what's the verdict on (re)balance of weapons? Did they do it or not? I'm about to finish my
lvl 5 rad suit
and my most effective toons are still two of my snipers. Perhaps because my assault rifle guy can only shoot once in a turn (dumped most of his points into INT) but still.

I'm disappointed with energy weapons the most; they suck against regular enemies while only being okay against robots/heavy armor instead of very good/borderline-OP. Fallout's plasma rifle they are not. Hell, even my handgun dude and brawler fella seem overall more useful.

Yeah. Energy weapons are not so great and they don't really make up for it much against what they are strong at. My energy weapon guy is mostly useful for his other skills and only supplements in combat. And my sniper is awesome. Though I think that also has to do with I did the best with her build for her purpose (being a sniper) where as my other characters aren't so specialized for combat with their weapon. Though my second most useful character in combat is my healer who also is the assault rifle user.

So I went through Titan's Canyon to Damonta and it was fairly easy up to this point. Now I'm getting my ass handed to me by these massive robot swarms.

Do I need to switch all my people to energy weapons? They seem to be the most effective against robots.

Did I go to Damonta too early? I still have to do something for the Titan priests in Silo 7.

Well I swallowed my pride and turned the difficulty down a notch. The battle went quite easy then.

Still the hardest fight of the game, unless something's changed in DC.

What helped me was having someone with high speed/high computer science hacking robots that way they'd fight for you. I only had one person in my squad that specialized in energy weapons. Granted I only played on Seasoned.

I love the game but it's starting to get on my nerves. Crashes and frame rate drops are now commun. Sadly, I will have to wait for a patch before I continue. I hope it will come soon.

I pre-ordered Divinity: Original Sin and will be starting it tomorrow. I hope it's more stable than Wasteland 2. I'm on the Xbox One by the way.

I just got to Canyon of Titan and
Angela got called back. So naturally I go back to the Citadel to grab Scotchmo but him and Ralphy aren't there. Have I caught the infamous companion bug or does the game have a reason for me not to have a companion right now?

You've encountered the bug, unfortunately.

I'm sort of impressed that the game still hasn't been patched.

I'm personally surprised there's not even an ETA for PC players.

I'm guessing they want some semblance of parity with consoles, but this seems a bit...risky.

I know the companion bug isn't the end-all be-all, but it is really putting a damper on my desire to play.

Yeah, I've been postponing my playthrough due to the haunting of companion bugs as well. I'm in the middle of Canyon of the Titan, currently.
A shame, really, because I really enjoyed my time with the game. Totally gave me that classic fallout vibes.

I can't believe InXile still hasn't fixed the problem regarding laptop with two graphic cards (one integrated and one another) being able to switch to their performance card. This was there since the original game!

And here I thought I might have been able to play it now that the Director's cut is out...

ps4 here...loving this game.

As for performance, I am level 26, and the only part that seemed to hiccup was in Damonta...on that map as I walked around the game would pause for a micro second every few seconds, but it went away after that. Performance has been fine outside that, and 4 game crashes so far.

I do have a ssd in my ps4, though I am not sure if that would help at all outside load times.

I really wished they fixed the bugs by now... At least the big ones. That's all I am waiting for playing the game again. Oh well, I'm keeping myself busy with Fallout: New Vegas (great writing, though I'm not quite sure I'm a fan of the game proper... makes me want to play Skyrim again, to be honest D: ).

I got pretty far in WL2 but never finished it. Started with DC-version a couple of days ago and I am so far not very positive about it. I am still playing on PC and I had to turn off shadows completely in order to not experience massive framedrops. Also not a big fan of the new UI, in particular the inventory menu. Wasn't it easier to transfer items in-between characters before? Those of you that have played a lot of the original version, what are your thoughts?

I might have to wait until atleast the companion bug is fixed to start a playthrough. Really looking forward to it though, so devs step it up!

How hard is this game? Recommended difficulty for someone without huge experience of the genre? Any pitfalls to avoid in character creation?

Beat the original Wasteland 2 last year, but I was interested in this (it's free anyway).
For those that have played both, do the changes to the gameplay add a lot more depth than before, or is it mostly just more of the same?

Also, I'm not really noticing much in the way of "enhanced" graphics either, watching some of the comparison videos. It just looks like Unity level graphics and mostly just a remix of textures instead of a really noticeable difference in overall quality.

I know the companion bug isn't the end-all be-all, but it is really putting a damper on my desire to play.
It has flat-out stopped me playing. I need to recruit Scotchmo and I'm scared about losing him, Ralphie or the miner if I do it in the current game version.

Honestly, it's more of the same. Maybe my memory of the original is skewy, but this honestly doesn't feel all that different, combat balance and all.

You can change the difficulty on the fly, so that's not an issue. If you have played isometric/pause able games like Xcom before, it's like that.

The biggest pitfall for character creation is to spread your points too thin. Not as big a deal for weapons. Although having one weapon line high is important. You cant go wrong with assault rifles, sniper rifles, melee stuff or energy weapons. You should probably spec for at least one of each of those. Although I'm sure there are ways to 'game' the system. You are going to want only 1 specialist in lockpicking, disarming, safecracking, demolitions, etc.

You also get a strong NPC early on which is helpful, but don't get too attached to her. All other NPCs you recruit will stay unless you do something to really piss them off. You can make 4 characters and get 3 NPCs IIRC.

there are a gazillion different skills to choose from at the start, just pick what you think sound important. You won't be able to do 100% everything in the game and you need to accept that :D

Luck and charisma are mostly useless stats. Plonk down 1 point in Surgery for a couple characters so you won't be shit out of luck if your medic gets downed.

My original 4 team members were:
Leader - charisma/intelligence, Leadership, shotguns
Assault - speed/coordination, assaultrifles, lockpicks, safecracking
Sniper - awareness/speed, sniperrifles, handguns, weapon mods
Medic - intelligence, medical, hacking, mechanical repair, energy weapons

After a very rough start I’m finally enjoying the game, a lot. The first place I visited was Rail Nomads Camp, so I found myself quite underleveled and stubborn as I am I lingered there trying to do some quests. At times it was maddening, the enemies tore my team apart very easily and the RNG gods seemed awfully angry with me, there were a few occasions in which a team member would crit another one to death while a lightning struck twice in a row a third character. In the end I managed to “clear a path” between the two camps and finished a few quests, then proceeded to Highpool.

Since leaving RNC the game has not been particularly difficult, I think the RNG gods have accepted those hours as a sacrifice and now mostly ignore me, which is good, and the weapons and levels gained there came in handy. I’m now at
Damonta, and at this point I must have reprogrammed half the robots.

I can only find two big complains. The first one is the loot, a few minutes after visiting a shop my characters become a pack mule filled with crap. It’s not a big deal, it’s pretty common in a game like this, but to me it always feels annoying. The second is the game pausing when the window loses focus. When travelling through areas already explored I have the habit to send my characters to some location and alt-tab to do something else while they move, here that’s impossible.

i've lost touch of this thread for a week or two, is the companions bug have been patched yet?

Also question during character creations, should upgrade my character that have 8 int for 10 int and give him skill like perception and demolition to level up them faster ?

So where is the ps4 patch?

The same place the PC and Xbox patches are, probably. Anyone still that's still playing the game, or is waiting for a patch to play the game, will probably have to continue waiting for the patch.

No.

I don't think that successful perception checks give bonus exp or not, but successful skill checks usually grant very small exp bonuses anyway. If you want that character to have higher proficiency in a larger number of skills, 10 int might be worth it if you don't have any other stats you want to focus on.

Regarding the patch's release date (from Sear - source):

Hey guys, just an update for you. It sounds like we are targeting patch release quite soon (but not this week), with a hotfix to follow on PC at a later date.

The first patch will fix most of the gameplay bugs we've had reported by the community, such as disappearing CNPCs and the Ranger Citadel door glitch while playing with a controller, and other problems our QA team has found separately.

This hotfix is only for PC, and will address the memory leak issue. Since this will require a Unity engine version update, we have decided to do that in a separate hotfix. This will let us give it plenty of testing time internally, while you guys can continue playing the game with the other gameplay bugs fixed.

Thanks for your patience!

Anyone know if the companion bug affects California? I just got there and was only able to take the one remaining companion that I didn't lose in the Citadel.

Regarding the patch's release date (from Sear - source):

Well, they've got about a week before Fallout 4 then.

I kid, I kid (kinda), but I wonder how much stuff the QA team was finding under the hood that it took this long to get out of relative radio silence, as well as to why it didn't get caught in the first place....

Anyone know if the companion bug affects California? I just got there and was only able to take the one remaining companion that I didn't lose in the Citadel.

I'd heard that any 'disappeared' companions would be able to be selected to accompany you to California, but no one's really 'sure' at the moment.

So judging from the experiences here the PS4 port isn't all that great. Anyone playing the Xbox One version? Does it have the same or other issues?

Edit: Ok, further read the thread, doesn't look too good either but there were some positive takes. Anyone can confirm that it's good and playable and stuff?
