Wasteland 2: Director's Cut |OT| Post-Apocalyptic, Post-Release Remix

What are the recruitable NPC's skills like? Or what important skills can I skip on the 4 starting characters that I can later fill with recruits?

They are pretty much every archetype, spread out rather generously so you can shore up your weak points at various points in the game.

Spoiling for the sensitive for a few early ones

In the first area is a woman that wants to come avenge Ace with you, she is like 7 levels higher than you, good with assault rifles and has the "break shit down" skill for breaking down doors and chests.

When you get to the first major choice, Ag Center has a woman that is terrible in combat but is a great skill mule, she starts off with a lot of scientific type skills. Not sure if the other area has one, haven't finished that route before.

Recruiting NPCs will depend on the choices you make so it's hard to specify what you can skimp on without dictating too much your route, and some might not want to stick with you always depending on what you do in the game.

You absolutely need someone with at least some perception and surgeon skills. You will probably want some leadership too as it helps control followers (and the buff is nice too). Leadership buff (+ hit percentage) is based on being near who has it so stick it on a mid range fighter that you can stick in the middle of your crew and touch the most people in combat.

Is it better to spread out points at character creation or focus on one or two? Ive been putting 3 in a weapon skill and the other 3 into one of the others.

My cast consists of:

Asshole Native American pistol guy (the leader named Diablo) who picks locks and safes. Think Cllint Eastwood from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly meets Tanto

A schizo American named Cray Cray Ray Ray who disarms stuff (carries assault rifle) and comes overly prepared with the worlds biggest backpack and oversized helmet

A rough looking Mexican with a pompador and thick mustache named Pepper who specializes in medic, surgery, demolitions, shotguns and hurting people. Has animal husbandry perk

Victor, a Russian sniper and computer expert with a fainting problem.

I've nailed their looks to fit their personalities. I've been very lucky to create 4 characters I feel a bond with from the beginning.

I need a screenshot dude, this look like a fantastic cast

This is what SlasherJPC said about attacking first. I'm not playing on controller so not sure if correct, presumably by left click he means L3.

Yeah left stick click pressed in to switch to stand alone controls. Then to attacking just use right trigger attack option on any enemies viewable.

Game's too hard early, and it's largely because of the extreme lack of ammunition.

I just tried to do the entire highpool underground with only 2 characters able to fight, because the other two are out of ammo. I ended up getting wiped. So frustrating.

SMG would be great if it didn't eat up ammo.

I think I'm kinda stuck already, early in the game. Central Complex area.

I've already cured Matt and rescue the staffs around the complex. I've also turned on the fan on the basement, 1/1 on the west and 3/5 on the east. And now I'm lost at what should I do next. Most of the paths are blocked by the huge vegetation veins. How do I cut them?

Thanks for the help. I tried this however, and it didn't work.

If you're running Windows 10 yourself, can you check and see which driver you have installed in Device Manager?
The device manager lists Xbox Controller under Xbox Peripherals. Double clicking on Xbox Controller then checking Deatils shows Xbox Controller for Value. The driver tab shows the following:

Driver Provider: Microsoft
Driver Date: 7/9/2015 (American date format)
Driver Version: 10.0.10240.16384
Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows

I was initially a little bored by replaying this, but once I got to the radio tower I started to feel it again. Maybe it's been too long since I last played it, though, because it doesn't look or feel all that different to me. Except for the UI, which seems to have changed for the worse in some ways.

I'm not sure how to do this on console, but I think it's been discussed elsewhere in this thread...
Force combat mode with a character using melee weapons and you can cut through some of the vegetation. You can do it with guns too, but it wastes ammo. You need to get to the areas on either side of the basement for sure, if I remember right.

From the "What game are you playing next" thread:

Didn't stop playing Wasteland 2 until midnight. The game is so good. Everything from customizing your rangers (down to bios about each)-to weapon customization, water management, ammo management- the xcom style battle system and the stellar dynamic dialogue (be a kiss-ass, be a hard ass, just start shooting- its an option!)-the music and enemy variety are also incredible.

Playing this to completion before anything else.

game is outstanding-everything I love about WRPGS dialed to 11

That's the exact version I have installed.

I've tried multiple Xbox One controllers to confirm it's the software not hardware.

Is nobody else experiencing this issue? Right-trigger calls Vargas or opens Log, and the d-pad mapping is all mixed up?

I really don't get the complaints about the text size. I'm playing the PC version and normal size is fine on my 50" plasma. It's probably not a bad idea to get your eyes checked if you're struggling to read the largest text size.

How close are you sitting?.

XBO version has no option to make the text larger, and the text isn't even black on white (it's grey on yellowy white), which makes it worse.

I spent an hour making four characters, gave my main the circus quirk... Now I get to start over and make four characters again. Ironically, I'm not laughing.

What's wrong with the circus quirk?

So, when my squad and I approach some of the enemies and we're still a fair distance away from them, am I able to set my team up in different locations (have them take cover) before the combat encounter starts? I keep getting caught out in the open when combat encounters begin. I'm playing on PS4.

You change the movement mode (either click LS or RS, can't remember which) to single character movement and position them that away.

Trying to plan a bit as to where I'll be spending my skill points, around what level will your characters be towards the end of the game?

Huh, got couple of hard locks that actually locked up my whole system. Haven't seen that in quite a while (Win 8.1). I am also not digging the new camera angle and one thing I noticed is that custom rangers are not being saved.

I have 6 peeps in my party now and I have almost collected (first couple hours spoiler)
all the spores at the ag center
but all my characters are super low on health and I can't figure out how to heal anybody. I really don't want to wipe and start over and I am already on easy mode. I also have Pills (pre made medic) and for some reason gave my main field medic as well.

Do I need to use the left trigger skills like mentioned earlier for lockpicking and such? Are there healing items that I can use?

That's how I was doing it, you heal from the skills menu on the triggers

Much appreciated. Thanks. So, can my guys take cover when they're outside of combat?

Not sure, I am still very new to the game, just feeling my way round it at the moment, I didn't even know how to initiate combat myself until it was discussed on here!

There is a digital manual (not the DC version and for PC though), that might help people.

Select your medic by hitting LB or RB shoulder buttons so that you highlight the medic. After selecting the medic, hold the left trigger so you are able to see the circle show up with all of your teams skills. Select the first aid icon (I think it's on the right side of the wheel), then select who you want to heal with your LB or RB shoulder buttons. Heal the selected person with the X button. (PS4 controls)

The problem with this game (other than it kicking my ass and controls being a little awkward especially if you have to do something quickly) is that the dialogue options and how many there are of them are going to spoil me. This is going to make Fallout 4's dialogue seem even more limited. I suppose at least most responses you can give are just looking for more information rather than fleshing out how your characters' personalities are.

So undecided on this, got gifted it on STEAM but playing on PC is really uncomfortable compared to chillin on the sofa in front of my big screen....so I didn't really get far. The main thing drawing me to it is people comparing the combat to XCOM EU which I absolutely adored, and what is putting me off is the copious amounts of text to read.

I'd probably avoid then. The RPG / Dialogue layer is the games strong part, the combat is pretty shitty. People are comparing it to Xcom in that they are both turn based, but the similarities end there.

Ok thanks for heads up. I do like the idea of the depth of characters, inventory, systems etc, but I'm one of those players who starts out reading all the text and if there is too much I just skip it and move on. Even in the Witcher 3 I just pick whatever chat option will move the conversation forward, rather than listening to everything there is on offer. Most games have been like that for me anyway

Thanks folks!! That is what I figured but I am so used to modern hand holding that this game is blowing my mind! lol

I really WANT to enjoy it but the learning curve is making me a bit nervous already. I will make sure to heal my party before I do anything else first.

I have the original Wasteland 2 on gog.com since I backed it. I seems to not received the DC version. Anyone have the same problem?

EDIT: Nevermind, it's a bug from gog. Isn't fixed yet.

So, I played the game at release, but I was kinda disappointed at the time, the game being very, very difficult right off the bat, and I wasn't fond of the gameplay. I am a little ashamed to admit it, but I gave up rather quickly (I also disliked that loot was random in most cases). I want to try again though. Any advices for a team? The game suffers quite a lot from the "Early Game Hell" syndrome, so I'd rather take advices.

How are the controls on console? Debating on whether i want it on console or to just get in on Steam

After watching others play it on PC via Twitch, it looks much easier control-wise on PC verses playing it on console.

I played about four hours last night on PS4 and enjoyed it, but the controls are not the greatest.

Sorta related to the above, but how do the controls work on console? Is the analog stick just substituting the mouse cursor, or are there larger differences between the controls?

I am at work and couldnt read the whole thread, so i wanna ask if the Xbox One version runs smooth?

I have only played a couple of hours myself but haven't noticed any major frame rate or tearing issues. It seems pretty solid and stable to me so far.

EDIT: I have read a couple of reviews for the xbone and haven't seen anything there either. The main complaints seem to be small text, odd controls and lack of tutorials/in-game guidance.

The lack of tutorials is definitely something that is taking time for me to get use to.

Played an hour on PC with PS4 controller, really good adaptation i must say.

BUT, even knowing that, this game was made for keyboard+mouse, the combat controll is too slow with a controller in my opinion.

But as i said, is a great port in terms of a controller gameplay.

Thanks for the fast answer. Hmmm still undecided if i get Wasteland or Divinity ( I got it for Pc, but didnt play that long). Guess i will have to test Wasteland first....somehow.

Finally got access to the citadel. Hopefully I can restock ammo for all my characters, I think making them all use assault rifles was a mistake lol

Playing on PC with the 360 controller. I think it controls fine, on par with XCom on a controller.

That said, I really wish there was a way to disable the "resize log window" option when R3ing between follow and pan. I never need to resize the damn log, but I need to click through it every time I switch camera modes.

I also wish when in pan mode it wouldn't constantly pan back to my character when I moved. There is a "follow squad with camera" option in the menu, but for some reason it's greyed out.

Here is my team setup at the very start:
1.) leader: I put points in charisma, intelligence, leadership, and perception and computer skill. No points in combat.

2.) Sniper: Points in Sniper Rifle, first aid, speed, and weaponsmith

3.) Medic: points in intellect, assault rifle, first aid and surgeon. Chose the "faint goat" quirk

4.) Tank: Points in strength, speed, blunt weapons, sharp weapons, lockpick, safecracking.

Be careful when choosing quirks. I'd recommend starting on "rookie" difficulty-the game allows you to change the difficulty at will.

I'd also recommend choosing the demolitions skill that allows you to disarm bombs. I'd also recommend choosing first aid for two people in your squad.
