Wasteland 2: Director's Cut |OT| Post-Apocalyptic, Post-Release Remix

Got some questions regarding weapons for those that have played some of the director's cut; are the assault rifle still as OP as they were in vanilla? Was one of the niggling issues I had with the game, and are shotguns actually useful now? Obviously had a huge drawback with their friendly fire cone but didn't really have anything to compensate for that in return.

As far as my limited playtime with the new systems can be in terms of representative, rifles are still OP, and shotties haven't gotten a whole lot better. Though admittedly, I haven't had enough time/accuracy boosts to try out the precision aiming system.

But honestly, whoever said to go for 8 int was on the money. Having so much of your weapon accuracy tied up into skills is absolutely critical in helping to prevent getting stuck.

For those curious about changes I posted a few pages back some links to show off the sucky new camera and it can give you an idea of some of the graphic changes. They've retooled a lot of stuff. Practically everything has changed a bit, even something as basic as ground textures.

Played for about two hours on the xbox one version. Very good game so far but their is a lot to take in as you get into it. At first, I just stared at the character creation screen trying to decide where I wanted to go with my main guy. So many options. In the end, I created on character and took 3 that were already available.

Those early fights are really tough. I know I must use a more intelligent approach but it's not easy. Steep learning curve but I guess it will be worth it as the game will become easier as I progress (I hope!!!)

So I think I know what the ?????? Negative quirk is for animal husbandry.

Your animals randomly explode.

Thought it was a bug at first, but had forgotten about the mystery negative quirk part.

Wow. I added that quirk to the right character then. I created a Mexican street tough named Pepper who likes bombs, playing medic and hacking people up. Just the right kind of convoluted to make that trait work.

Depends on which difficulty you have selected.

I played the vanilla version on Ranger difficulty, the game is very tought at first, later it becomes way easier....but at some point of the game, there's a new difficulty peak that remains till the end of the game.

Is like a roller coaster.

BTW, wow, the game is visually enjoyable now, so many improvements in the graphics area compared to vanilla version.

Yeah don't sweat it if it seems hard at first, the first couple areas are really tough as you're gaining levels. You'll get over the hump though and honestly the game probably gets too easy (in vanilla at least, not sure if it'll be the same here).

didn't realize at first that this is a separate entry in steam, so I loaded WL2 a couple times going "man, why isn't my controller working?"

don't be like me, install the new one. :D

also I saw that they redid the art for the console boxes, I was hoping they'd keep the art for the steam tile. D:

Is anyone here able to successfully use an Xbox One controller for this game in Windows 10?

When I use the right-trigger to bring up my combat wheel, it brings up the radio instead.

The button that should bring up the radio brings up the map instead.

The button that should bring up the map makes me crouch. The button that should make me crouch does nothing.

Also using right-trigger will randomly open the Log Book. I don't get it.

I've recalibrated my controller, tried it in other games without problems.

Wasteland 2 works perfectly with a PS4 controller.

I feel like this may be something related to Direct Input (which I understand the Xbox One controller doesn't support in Windows 10?) and Unity 5?

A year ago I was playing Fallout 2 but had to stop for school, should I finish F2 or start with Wasteland 2 and finish F2 later ? Im kind of lost in my quests in F2...

Also what are good Quirk to pick from? I don't want to get stuck with a costume clown or something for the rest of the game (just an exemple)

I spent an hour making four characters, gave my main the circus quirk... Now I get to start over and make four characters again. Ironically, I'm not laughing.

Ended up pulling the trigger on this! Downloading now while I play some MGSV. Really looking forward to it based on reviews, my love for xcom, and everyone's posts in this thread.

On a side note, ended up getting the $15 PSN credit because I got this, SWBF, and the Rocket League DLC. All that for $85 isn't bad.

I'm thinking there's some driver trouble with the XBone controller in Windows 10. I've run into a few strange issues with the controller over the last two or three weeks. Rocket League, for instance, detected controller input as coming from player 2 instead of player 1 even though I only have one controller plugged in.

Uninstalling all XBone drivers, rebooting and plugging it back into my computer fixed it.

Anyway, Wasteland 2 seems to be OK with my controller.

If I copy Wasteland's 2 files into the Director's Cut directory, will it find them and reduce the download size?

Worth a try, I guess? But they're considered separate games so it could do nothing but screw up your install, or leave a bunch of useless files in the directory.

Only one way to know for sure.

My cast consists of:

Asshole Native American pistol guy (the leader named Diablo) who picks locks and safes. Think Cllint Eastwood from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly meets Tanto

A schizo American named Cray Cray Ray Ray who disarms stuff (carries assault rifle) and comes overly prepared with the worlds biggest backpack and oversized helmet

A rough looking Mexican with a pompador and thick mustache named Pepper who specializes in medic, surgery, demolitions, shotguns and hurting people. Has animal husbandry perk

Victor, a Russian sniper and computer expert with a fainting problem.

I've nailed their looks to fit their personalities. I've been very lucky to create 4 characters I feel a bond with from the beginning.

Thanks for the help. I tried this however, and it didn't work.

If you're running Windows 10 yourself, can you check and see which driver you have installed in Device Manager?

I actually noticed that up on the d-pad seems mapped to right, and down seems mapped to left.

Strangely, there was similarly odd behavior in Volume for PC.

Any advice on designing a good medic? I'm messing with making my party and I want a strong medic. Should I pump Coordination? Should I take a quirk? I never really played the game so I'm not sure what to focus on.

I've never played the vanilla version, but I don't think the camera is atrocious like some of the posters said here.
The game is kicking my ass, my squad can barely hit anything. 70% hit is the best I can do with my sniper, while the rest are 50-60% ish at optimal range.

There's a quirk for medics that is "Heal everyone else for more, but you can't heal yourself" which isn't a bad one since you'll likely want to keep them out of fire anyway. Forces you to have at least one character with healing ability though, even if basic.

Make sure you take surgery, that's the revival skill. If you want a combat focus a Sniper medic isn't a half bad idea. But the character can also be a good skill focused character too if you want. You won't generally be healing a ton in combat, so it's really a choice of if you want them helping out at all or if you want a weakling to protect that's really good outside of combat.

And you'll want someone else with at least 1 point in surgery so the medic can be revived if need be.

Coordination is okay for most classes, but not a must have for a medic, it's more a general combat focused skill.

Didn't even leave the Citadel before restarting to customize my folks, not having a defining leader in the party probably did it for me.

should I be min maxing starting stats by draining some to 1?

what is the real difference between speed and coordination? What does combat speed mean compared to action points?

Gah, I'm wishing i put the difficulty on easy. I know i'm still at the beginning but while I'm enjoying the game I can tell it's stressing me out too (I am cranky now after playing and have short patience). I'm managing to get by mostly but I now ran into a boss and I've no healing left and I'm getting careless because I have a spore infection that apparently I have to do all the quests first before I'll get healed (and there is a timer before my character goes bye bye). I hate timers in games honestly. A lot.. they always stress me out.

Action points are like many other games, just how many actions you can do per round. Movement, shooting, etc. Some things require more than others.

Combat speed is related to how much AP it costs you to move around. A higher combat speed means you'll move farther for less AP. So Combat Speed is something you want on a character you'll move a lot, a melee character or shotgunner that needs to be constantly in enemy's faces.

Luck is the general dump stat, it isn't used for a whole lot. Everything else depends on the character type.

You can switch difficulties anytime IIRC. It's one of the loading screen tips.

Should I only have one charismatic character? Should I drain the charisma to 1 on everyone else?

In other words, one character is for talking to npcs, everyone else doesn't need to.. right? Not sure how it works.

No, charisma goes by your group's totall. You can load it up on one or two if you need the stats on a combat focused character, but don't totally nuke it, the charisma checks are your entire party.

In the game it's mostly your party as a whole talking to NPCs, except for in specific speech check circumstances (hard ass, smart ass, kiss ass).

Also keep in mind if you're stressing out, you'll recruit some party members in the game (one is in the opening area), so you don't need every ability under the sun. They are called followers and tend to have personal stories to follow or are involved in a quest, and can be sent to the HQ when you don't need them generally.

Oh, okay. I didn't realize that.

This is the squad I'm building. I may tweak the stats a bit now knowing a bit more about charisma. I didn't commit yet.

The concept is an all girl athiest squad of athiests. The first character is designated as the leader and uses assault rifles, and all of the others are intended to be some variant of speedy and short ranged, with a couple of utilities covered (field medic, lockpicking, surgeon).

I'm not wholly invested in min maxing and have no idea if this is a good idea or not, but it's kind of what I wanted to do and each character has kind of a "concept".

Anyone tried Vita Remote Play?
How small is the text?

If its small I wont buy this game. My options are either play with 55" tv over 3 meter distance or by Remote Play at home. Since this game is text heavy it sucks when text is small. Hopefully they are patching it?

Only thing I would really suggest Jobbs is you probably don't need to load up on the gun skills that much and can get a few minor skills in place and level up the guns as you go. Though it may make some of the early going easier, as accuracy is harsh early on.

And give someone Perception, there is a lot of booby trapped shit that at least 1 point will help alleviate. More the better for harder to detect ones, but at least 1 point to not wander into mine fields.

So PS4 version had a patch, Xbox one Im not seeing one. Also I believe because there is no patch, there is no text larger option as of yet on Xbox One. Anyone can confirm?

Yes, no large text option on the XBO, which is a pain as the text is tiny.

Spent some time with the XBO version, and it's fine, AA isn't great, but it's perfectly serviceable.

One thing I can't figure out, there is no way to manually initiate combat?

Started playing last night and somehow I've messed up.(Very early game spoilers)
Both ag center and high pool have fallen before I've completed either.

Will I miss much if i carry on like this? I suppose it will give me a reason to replay the game.

According to Google you can only save one.

two newbie questions.

1) I keep finding locked boxes but I can't figure out how to lockpick them. I have a character with 3 lockpick skill.

2) How do I initiate combat on my terms? Often I see the enemy well in advance but I just have to walk up to them and let them have the opening.

Anyway, I'm definitely having fun. I am in
high pool and just took out all the attackers, and I'm now in the little town where the guy's house is burning down and I'm not sure what to do about it.

I enjoy the challenging nature of the game. I've had numerous KOs and close calls and it's somewhat miraculous that I haven't lost anyone yet. I like getting by by the skin of my teeth. Makes the game more exciting.

I thought my assault rifle person sucked until I realized that assault rifle has low accuracy at close range for some reason.

My strongest overall fighter so far seems to be my SMG wielding high speed psychopath.

Is the console port good? How much cost this on PSN EU? I need something to build my anticipation for Fallout 4 and if the game is good and not 69€ I will probably bite

If you press L2 (assuming your playing on ps4) and select lock picking from the wheel, the character with the highest lock pick skill, will attempt to open the container.

What are the recruitable NPC's skills like? Or what important skills can I skip on the 4 starting characters that I can later fill with recruits?

For those who keep getting their asses handed to them during the first hours, you can recruit a certain lady at the start on the Citadel yard that makes life much easier during the first part of the game. It's also kinda easy to miss.

If you see the enemies ahead. Left click to do single character movement. Get them in position. Then use someone with longer shooting range and use attack on your action wheel.

This is what SlasherJPC said about attacking first. I'm not playing on controller so not sure if correct, presumably by left click he means L3.
