Watch Dogs reportedly not coming any sooner than May or June 2014

From November to may/June, bloody hell.

Some delay, seems like a lot of the criticism got to them.
Hope it means more content outside of the missions as that was my biggest complaint with the game ( side missions, activities, random events, etc seemed like they were missing)

Hope they follow GTA V in terms of ambition ( wildlife, lots of content from ground to air, large detailed and varied map, online free roam etc...)

Hopefully its worth it.

Anyone who thinks it was because of Grand Theft Auto aren't paying attention. This ad went out sometime after (or maybe on the same day?) as GTA's release. They were confident.

....which is even more embarrassing now. But it happened.

Marketing team vs. Development team.

I didn't get the feeling that the Watch Dogs team was confident about a Fall 2013 release.

The delay was probably to fix and tune what they had, not expand it.

I'd expect a GTA IV amount of content, honestly.

I've been expecting it for May/June since they announced the delay. It doesn't strike me as a delay to the delay. Just what was expected when it was initially shuffled off to Q1/2 2014. It should fill in nicely for the summer drought.

There's no reason a May or June release would be worse than April. Look at Red Dead and TLoU.

Sure, but recording for voice actors ENDING in May/June doesn't exactly indicate a May/June release. Post production takes time.

That's why recording for DLC is a possibility if the game is still allegedly coming by June.

For example, I remember with the Mass Effect 3 ending debacle, Bioware mentioned they waffled about how exactly to go about thing, and had Martin Sheen recording lines two months prior to release iirc. Which they considered EXTREMELY late in the game.

Assuming the VA work is for the main game, if it ends in June you're looking at a late summer release at best most likely. :(

I thought they said Q2 the day it was delayed, not sure why so many are surprised.

I'm not super hyped for the game but it definitely looks like it could be cool. Hopefully the extra time pays off.

You know, the delay worked out fine for me. This way, I will have something to play during the summer drought and I can concentrate on the other new releases in the spring (few as they are). Plus, with work, I probably won't get as much time as I used to.

Still optimistic about the quality of the game.

Good, good. Make this game Person of Interest and I will be very happy.

I'm glad that at least they are working on the game. It angers me that people say "you lost me, Ubisoft" as if they wanted a mediocre game now rather than a good game later. Seriously, people, get some patience.

I have to wonder to what extent we see the same conflict of interest with mock review houses you see with credit rating agencies. If a mock review outlet absolutely shits on a game-- like genuinely, truly shits on a game-- would the publisher actually be inclined to bring the review house back? Do publishers want genuinely negative feedback?

Many times they do, because they can ask for specific reviewers they know that will rate the game terribly, just so they can "get them out of the way". I don't remember where this was said, but it was one of the revelations we saw after "Doritosgate".

The original announcement of the delay from October stated that Ubisoft said it expects Watch Dogs to be released in the first quarter of its fiscal year (between April 1 and June 30, 2014). So why is this a story now and why in the world are people surprised or upset?

Hopefully they are doing something substantial to make it more interesting/exciting, because what we got leading up to the release was boring as shit.

Yeah, not sure. It's been April at the earliest since the delay.

Good. Delay it until it's done. People complaining about a delay are dumb as all hell. Release the game when it's done.

As I said above, May/June end date for the main voice actor doesn't really indicate a May/June release. Post production doesn't happen instantly.

wow

are they adding content?

seems like the game was just completely unrealistically pegged with that Q4 2013 date.

I think they're trying to avoid an Assassin's Creed-like scenario in which the original game showed some promise, but only since the second did it start living up to people's expectations.

Gamestop.com also has the date down as June 30

As has been said, June 30 is the last day of Q2 for Ubisoft. Ubi has pledged that it's coming out in Q2, so Gamestop picked the last possible day so as to not piss off customers if they guessed wrong.

Don't read much of anything in the June 30 date. For one thing, it's a Monday, not a Tuesday.

I wouldn't be surprised if they played GTAV and realised with dread that they had a lot more work to do. Los Santos raised the bar.

Then they would have delayed it for more then a year in order to rework and rebuild the entire game.

The delay was to finish the game.

Rebuild entire? Nah. Add a ton of content so that the world doesn't feel barren by comparison? Yeah maybe.
