You just gave me the idea to listen to the Interstellar soundtrack while exploring space in this game. Thank you man, you're a saint.
Hans Zimmer absolutely nailed it - and I don't care for movie soundtracks normally.

YES.I made those connections, too. Now do yourself a favor and watch Cosmos. It's on Netflix.
Just watched an Elite: Dangerous video where a guy randomly came across Alpha Centauri and then made his way to Earth/our solar system. He is also an astronomy student, so he occasionally drops little bits of knowledge in his vids, as well.
Between Elite, Star Citizen, and NMS, we're pretty much set on space exploration games.
I'm going to watch it on my own tomorrow morning. My first ever true IMAX experience at the biggest screen in the UK. Can't fucking wait.

EDIT: Haha, awesome--he headed to Mars and noted it's not red anymore! In the Elite universe, it's been terraformedAlthough he does note it looks like it has an unrealistic amount of water.
What's really great about Elite is that they used actual NASA star charts to fill all the 160k systems we've managed to map out. So I can literally look at NASA astrological data, find a system with something that sounds cool and fly there in Elite and actually see it.
It's really something else guys.
kinda lame that IO looked like just a dead gray nothing world![]()
Doubt it will be possible in NMS though lol.
Ok thats true, but we still dont know how it all fit together, it could be incredible repetitive or boring, we havent seen any gameplay so...

Dwarf fortress is randomly generated, so is Minecraft, so are most roguelikes, and plenty of interesting things happen in them. That the planets are empty and boring is solely your assumption.People are talking about "getting in random adventures" On what? Randomly generated empty planets with rocks and trees of different shapes.
It's definitely not for everyone but Contact is one my favorites. This is one of the games that will make me buy a ps4. I didnt think about it during Interstellar though...
I'll watch Cosmos too but can anyone recommend other good space movies? I've seen 2001, gravity, probably others but i cant remember right now. Please PM me if you feel thats off topic

And on topic, yes, I too am SUPER excited for NMS. I hope the Morpheus dream is real.
It won't be possible. It will be necessary.

I'm extremely skeptical of NMS. I feel like there will be a billion planets that are all boring and repetitive. Give me a couple well-designed planets over a galaxy of randomly generated crap.
90% of the galaxy is pretty boring. Barren planets, empty space. It's the 10% that matter, and they matter because they're so rare.
You can't have excitement without a modulation in intensity. If everything is dialed up to 11 all the time, you go tonedeaf and they all start sounding like a 1.
It sounds like the vibe NMS is going for ain't quite your thang, but for me, I can't wait. I've spent way more time in Space Engine, Celestia and Noctis, than I'd care to admit.
No Man's Sky is the sequel to Noctis I've always wanted.

Yes, it's a game designed around exploration which I think is an underutilized theme in video games.
Heck, your options right now are literally still Noctis or Minecraft if you want to explore a procedurally generated space just for the sake of exploration.

I jumped ahead and am now playing Eliteangerous on PC.. with the Oculus Rift and it literally feels like I'm in space.. so freaking immersive!
I thought of NMS watching THIS: http://vimeo.com/108650530
Fix that shit, Guerilla!kinda lame that IO looked like just a dead gray nothing world![]()
Holy shit, in Elite Dangerous, someone made it to Sagittarius A* (the supermassive black hole at the center of the milky way) over 29,000 light years from Sol.
So. Fucking. Rad.

Uhhh, yes we have.
Its being made by a small team. How is it going to be the game everyone thinks it will be is beyond me.

Man this game looks dead boring. I just dont see what the fuzz is all about. Saw some gameplay videos, but definitely not my type.
The game part has me worried.
I still have no idea what you actually do moment to moment.
