Watchmen Trailer

I do recognize the quality writing in Watchmen but it's not something I would want to add to my collection. I am looking forward to the movie though.

Did anyone catch the screencap that supposedly showed a
tentacle
or something in NYC? It was hidden in one of the trailers/featurettes. It disappeared right after I saw it on IMDB.

Strange.

I'm betting the original ending is still intact. It has to be. It makes too much sense considering how faithful they're trying to be, and falls in line with the rumor that the
bomb
ending is a hoax.

Plus, the footage showing John and Laurie kissing while the
bomb goes off
behind them looks kind of thrown together.

Wasn't that a dream sequence?

Not sure. I've read the book a few times, last time a few months ago. I don't really remember what you're referencing.

I hope so, because some people are pointing to it as evidence of the changed ending.

It was part of a dream sequence in the book and is almost an exact recreation of the panels.

War room nixon? Kennedy assination Wha?

You'd think there would be enough else going to focus on and that would get fucking cut.

The movie is over 2 and a half hours long. The only thing from the comic that's being cut are the Tales of the Black Freighter scenes, and those are being put back in for the DVD.

That trailer got me a little happier after it might be rumored to delayed possibly. Glad to see a new trailer that was a good surprise.

well, Paramount has the international rights. So maybe the legal problems are only regarding the US distribution?

Maybe we can sneak in Japanese BluRays with English language options later?

That would be a good fuck you to FOX.

If that happens they should leak a screener by "accident". But the chances of that happening are low.

OT, but having just seen a bit of The Incredibles on TV again, I have to say that Brad Bird/ Pixar might do a better job if they did a straight adaptation of The Watchmen. Since I don't think The Dark Knight's gritty and realist style can be outdone, I imagined it with The Incredibles' aesthetics with a much darker theme and I'm not sure if it would be more effective. They could even keep the ending. I'm still worried that the acting might make difficult to take this too seriously.

. . .
What?

I wonder if the movie will have the following scenes that would just be weird without them but will definitely make the movie 18A or be akward on film:

Dr.Manhatten not wearing clothes
The scene where the dog is eating the girl's bones and Rorsasch snaps
The impotent scene

Dr. Manhattan is definitely nude in the movie in most of the scenes;
The Rorschach backstory is exactly the same. The building burning might not be there however. Instead (from what I've heard), he pursues the "eye for an eye" and does the same to the kidnapper that was done to the girl;
The impotent scene might be in the movie. The sex scene and the dream sequence is definitely in so there is no excuse to remove the impotent scene.

Wait,
did the Comedian assassinate Kennedy? I don't even remember there being an allusion to this. I remember a reference to Bernstein and Woodward regarding Watergate, but nothing about JFK.

Huh.

In the Graphic Novel, it is vaguely implied that The Comedian, in Dallas at the time minding then-former Vice President Richard M. Nixon, may have killed Kennedy. In the movie, they took it to a new level and showed that The Comedian was the second shooter.

Yep. Theatrical cut (as of now) is 2 hours and 35 minutes while the director's cut is 3 hours and 10 minutes. With Black Freighter it's 3 hrs and 40 min.

Yeah, I don't remember that being in the novel...

Did Snyder and co. just made that up?

Truant said:
No, it's in the novel, but it's kinda hard to spot the first time around.

I spotted it.

I'm concerned though. Adding that flashback might make the Comedian too much of a sympathetic character.

In all seriousness, I don't understand how Alan Moore made this man identifiable and sympathetic, let alone human. The Comedian was such a vile piece of shit and yet at many points likable.

Yeah, it is hinted at.

I'm not sure if it's during the main story, or via the interviews and other stuff in between, but it is definitely mentioned.

The true genius of Watchmen is right there. Likewise, many people find Rorschach "cool" or likable, which really surprised Moore. He's great at making bad people sympathetic.

And before you say Rorschach is not a bad guy, he randomly breaks the fingers of guys in bars all over town for info, assumes everyone is a criminal, and threw a harmless pervert down an elevator shaft. Yet he's arguably the best fleshed-out character in the book.

Everybody in Watchmen is an asshole though all great characters.

Well he's never been much of one for binary morality la-la land.

Because unlike just about every other villain out there, you get to see the rather neutral, if not cold-hearted, philosophy behind his cruelty. After a while, you begin to sympathize with him; unless you're constantly looking at the world through rosy lens, who hasn't shared in his general view that
life is a cruel joke
?

I found The Comedian's character development to be what triggered my first real eye-opening moment of appreciation for the series.

how about some new pictures from total film?
