Oh yeah, Rorschach's mask is changing shape - watch it closely. Very cool!

I might get around to making some GIFs later.

edit: Silk Spectre = Freakshow's wife from Harold and Kumar 1...wow.

I like the way it looks as a movie, as an admirer of the book I do agree with the people saying it's a bit too stylized. So, from what I'm seeing I think it's looking good as a flick and okay as an adaptation. Also, however's playing Ozymandias looks waaay too wimpy - as I recall he was pretty set, enough to make him look as powerful physically as he was intellectually - but maybe his performance will make up for that.

And I also just read the Entertainment Weekly feature, and it does sound like they've changed the ending.
Wait, what? What does it say? spoiler me!

Ahh, you can't save it?
did you find it in the store? just download it and it's yours.

seriously, does no one know about this? it's a completely animated and orchestral scored play of the first comic. it's really nice.

Oh, and can we all agree not to use the term graphic novel? It's such a bullshit, arbitrary and cynically make-believe distinction.

I think the term has a place, namely when referencing comics that were published in one volume, and weren't a monthly series.

Not a reader of comics/graphic novels. Ive tried once or twice, but they just dont jive with me. Funny in a way, since I enjoy the hell out of a fair number of movies whose source material is a one (Oldboy, Batman Begins, Spider-Man 2, Sin City, etc.). But as for reading the source material itself, forget it.
I had never read a comic book/graphic novel in my life, outside of collecting some shit ones as a little kid, before I read through about 1/3 of Watchmen at a local B&N (I only didn't buy it because they didn't have the Absolute edition -- which I just bought a hour or so ago). It's fucking great. I recommend just popping into a book store and reading it for a while. If you aren't sucked in after a chapter or two, then comic books REALLY aren't for you.

The only one I think Ive read the full way through was The Dark Knight Returns, and that was mostly because it was so batshit insane that it was fun. Geriatric Batman FTW.

SPOILERS IF YOU WANT TO KNOW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT THE MOVIE

Sure, there have been changes. The catastrophic climax is different. Provocative bits, like a timely subplot about alternative fuels, have been added. And a pirate/horror comic book that was thread ironically through the comic is set to become a separate animated dvd.

Also, the opening credits is "a hypnotic title sequence that shutter-flies through the history of Watchmen America, set to Bob Dylan's 'The Times They Are A-Changin'". That is basically awesome.

I should put that on my to-read list.

But really, check Watchmen out for me, Solo. :P

I think it looks pretty damn good. I can't believe they were able to (presumably) fit so much shit into one movie. It's gotta be 3 hours long.

But how pissed must Alan Moore be, eh? :lol

According to Entertainment Weekly, the cut Snyder has is about 3 hours - and he's trying to cut it down to 2.5.

I'm pretty sure I heard rumors of an even-longer director's cut for the DVD/Blu-ray.

The pirate story is cut from the theatrical release, but they filmed it for the dvd and bluray release.

Going on the list as well! I've seen the comic book dudes like yourself mention it a ton of times.
Add Lucifer ( a semi sequel to Sandman with many of Sandman's character appearing in the series) and Fables to the list! Do it! JUUUIIICCCEEE!

Damn you, people! I already have a reading backlog! It's getting worse than my gaming backlog. :(

DK2 is even more batshit insane. :D

It also pisses off comic fanboys which is always a plus in my book.

I don't know how much more my wallet can take. I have all Sandmans now, half of the Lucifers (not as good as Sandman but still consistently entertaining and more badass) and then I want to get my hands on the Preachers and Y's.... sooooo much moneeey, but I cannot resist!

As someone who has never read the comic (and never will), it looks.... weird. And unintentionally funny at times.
This. There is a lot of visual flair, but it looks so overdone. I really don't like the effects style... at all.

l, shameful insult to Moore, the book and the TRUE fans

Ugh.

I was hoping this wouldn't start rearing it's ugly head so soon, but I should've known better. Now we get to see the good ol' 'I'm a TRUE fan!' Internet debates. Lovely.

Sorry man, but if this is the mindset you carried in before seeing a single scene/trailer, you were pretty much destined to not like this from the outset.

The movie will not be (and never is) the book.

Meh. I've never found a bigger fan of Watchmen in real life than myself, I've read the book dozens of times, and I'm psyched.

There's "perfect adaptation" and then there's "noble and interesting try" and Watchmen was never going to be more than the latter no matter how well made.

For all the things that seem wrong in it, the idea of a live-action movie and the stuff they got right has me totally excited.

Like Lynch's Dune-- even if it doesn't work, it's going to be an incredibly compelling wreck at least.
