Gab is less than a month old, so it may well flame out like Peach or Ello. But for now, the platform looks like an artifact from a dystopian universe where the alt-right completely took over Twitter. Gab has over 42,000 people on its waitlist, more than 11,000 active members, and among them are nearly all the alt-right’s online kingpins, including the Internet’s self-styled super-villain, Breitbart writer Milo Yiannopoulos himself, who was recently banned for life from Twitter. And Gab’s appeal for that crowd is obvious. The only posting guidelines are no illegal porn, no threats of violence, no terrorism, and no doxing. Oh, and a fifth commandment that literally says “try to be nice.” Everything else is fair game. Notably absent? Any explicit stipulations against hate speech.

“We promote raw, rational, open, and authentic discourse online,” says Gab CEO Andrew Tolba. “We want everyone to feel safe on Gab, but we’re not going to police what is hate speech and what isn’t.” Yet in its first weeks, rather than create a free-speech zone where all voices are heard and anyone can say anything to anyone, Gab directly caters to a narrow, conservative, provocateur sensibility. The trending hashtags? Usually stuff like #HillarysHealth and #HitlerPickUpLines.

So, this is yet another unironic realization of the phrases that the alt-right use to lambast those they oppose. People who adopt a "don't be a dick" methodology are social justice warriors despite a huge number of actually angry & warlike commentators being on the "anti-SJW" side. People (who use large freely visible and public social networks) need to be sheltered within their safe spaces despite the new actually cloistered safe spaces being sprung up around the alt-right. It's just another example of the alt-right exactly fitting the description of those they despise.

Well, here's a warm welcome to the new safe space for the dregs of the web:

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
If it gets them off of respectable sites I'm fine with it. Let those assholes have their own space.

I'm assuming it's not, but Is "GAB" supposed to have anything to do with GAF?

I remember Milo apparently mentioned Gaf a few times during the gamergate stuff and there was a Reddit dedicated to bitter people who had been banned from here.

I expect that site to cultivate a few Dylan Roofs.

"All you do is talk you're. It gonna actually do anything you cuck!" Is a common sentiment among those circles and every now and then someone really goes for it and goes on a rampage. Shit like this is why pregnant Muslim women get beat up in the U.K. Or set on fire in midtown NYC.

I'm ok with this, in fact, expel them all from Twitter and leave it for the good people and let their shit fester in that Gab place.

Exactly, this is a good development. Same as 4chan.

It's a place where people can spew whatever they want, and the only way you'll hear it is if you want to hear it. Self-segregation.

Come on. 'Feelsgoodman.jpg' took off on 4chan originally. It has hardly been corrupted, it was theirs to start with.

Sure, but it was generally used as just another reaction face meme. Actually that's the only way have I've seen it used, but then again I avoid boards like 4chan.

Sort of. The downside is the refinforcement of dumb ideas of people on the inside of the bubble.

Watch out Reddit, The Chans, and Voat.

Is Voat still around? Seemed like that thing went down whenever anyone looked at it sideways.

Much like others have said, better there than here. These people already get together online and will regardless of any one medium.

Edit: Wait, Gab has voting (aka hivemind censorship) and self-censoring for keywords. Any port in a storm, I guess, but talk about hypocrisy.

They don't actually stay contained though. They have the power of meme magic.

I was pretty disappointed to find out about this the other day when I was looking up cute fan art of the dog from Zero Time Dilemma (who happens to have the exact same name).
