were older games more creative?

AAA games with high production values are a very modern idea. back in 1990, all games were basically indie games. I'm betting your average ds game had a larger production team working on it than your average NES game. and nobody is going to suggest that the modern indie scene is somehow less innovative than what we got on old consoles. it may innovate in new directions is all.

One thing I realized with modern games is that there is hardly ever any closure in the stories, so everything just seems continuous.

Also, a result of this dependency on continuity leads to bigger developer teams work via assembly line with tons of teams/workers. Games growing up I felt had way more smaller but specialized teams who were more intertwined in the work they did.
