I just discovered Ayreon. I love it.

Do yourself a favor and immediately pick this album up. You're welcome.

Also, if you like Ayreon but sometimes are a little put off by the ridiculousness of the lyrics, etc, you should check out Guilt Machine as well. Another Arjen Lucassen project. I think it's fantastic.

Crooked Saws - Mo'Fi (blues rock) // Leche de Tigre - Lactophilia (Latin folk instrumental)
Mafia Track Suit - Mafia Track Suit (power-pop) // Jim's Big Ego - Noplace Like Nowhere (alternative/pop)

Bit of shameless self-promotion in mentioning them (they're part of a bundle I'm running) but I do genuinely like these bands.

I used to think pop music sucked, but then I realized it's just the radio that sucks. I've been on this massive indie/alt pop love fest recently... I just can't get enough of shit like:

Two Door Cinema Club - I Can Talk

Foster the People - Don't Stop

Please post more stuff like this so I can get my fix.

I made a spotify playlist just for you, and I know you may be thinking he had that shit already made...No I made that just for you, you must at least open it once lol.

Opening now.

Edit: Mac OSX doesn't recognize internet addresses starting with "spotify:" =( Am I doing it wrong?

Edit #2: Standby, I'm figuring it out, thanks for the playlist. =)

Yea, nope it says "Playlist is currently empty"

Massive Attack

Been really getting into Triphop. I've heard lots of songs from the genre before but never knew it was a genre of its own.
Listen to Tricky's first album, Maxinquaye. Incredible. Pre-Millineum Tension is his next, and it's pretty great too.

Yo built in spotify links, next level ish, nice

Gonna check out this Fake Limbs album, been wearing the latest Cloud Nothings out because it's so short.

Bomb The Bass's 1991 masterpiece "Unknown Territory". 21 years on and it still sounds like the future to me.

Great, undervalued record.

It's a very nice listen. Nothing surprising coming from him, but it doesn't need to be. It's a softer, more electronic/droney Wind's Poem. If you liked the softer tracks from Wind's Poem (Ancient Questions, Between Two Mysteries, Wind Speaks) you'll really enjoy this album.

I have a feeling that Ocean Roar, which comes out int September, will be a lot heavier because the track on Clear Moon that speaks about the Ocean delves into some pretty extreme black metal near the end.
Holy shit, hype! God, I love Mount Eerie. Had no idea this album was coming out so soon. Can't wait!

As for what I'm listening to:

I'll check it up, thanks.

The good thing about listening to songs that aren't in your mother language is that you can turn off the "translating module" in your brain and just enjoy the music and voices :P Fortunately, I don't have to do that in this case. They lyrics, while cheesy, aren't that bad. And it's kind of cool how the albums create a story.

But after I deal with Ayreon I will try Guilt Machine too.

The My Bloody Valentine Reissues (The EP set is getting the most love, actually.)

James Blackshaw - Love is the Plan, the Plan is Death

Honestly, probably my favorite album of his. His switch from the 12-string to the 6-string is absolutely MONUMENTAL, gives the entire album this redolent tinge, like it harkens back to an ethereal medieval past. Absolutely wonderful. Her Smoke Rose Up Forever is one of my favorite songs of the year.

Sun Kil Moon - Among the Leaves
Lambchop - Oh (Ohio) (coverart has nudity...)
Lambchop - Is a Woman
mewithoutYou - Ten Stories

New Killer Mike/El-P is GREAT. Been listening to that non-stop. Also checked out the recent Burial EP a few times on some late-night drive-homes; it's pretty good. Also revisited some of the Lightning Bolt albums recently.

EDIT: I find myself less and less interested in 'songs' right now for some reason. If I'm not listening to hip-hop it's usually something that's about a certain texture or ambience or atmosphere.

A lot of Devin Townsend Stuff

Aline Morales

Just heard her the other day on CBC radio. She's from Toronto by way of Brazil, and I'm kinda digging it. Pretty nice. Went into the record shop, and the guy there said it was selling really well for a local record.

Ne Obliviscaris-Portal of I. This is the best Metal album I have heard in years. If you love metal get it.

s3674189.jpg

Killer Mike & El-P- R.A.P. Music. And this is not only my favorite hip-hop album this year but possibly within the last two years.

s3264322.jpg

Death Grips- The Money Store. This is pretty experimental for a hip-hop album but I personally enjoy it. Industrial is the best way to describe it. Give it a listen. I can't guarantee you will like it but if you enjoy industrial and music with a "punk aesthetic" you might like this.
