What are your most anticipated indie games?

The first thing that comes to mind is:

If the games lives up to their ambitions for reactivity and dialogue design it's going to be incredible.

This has replaced Rain World as my most anticipated game right now. Its ambitions and style are just astounding.

Good lord there are some amazing looking games in this thread. Honestly I'm having a hard enough time keeping up with the recent releases, picked up Stardew Valley and have had to hold off from buying some of the other greats.
I guess for me (all Switch) Hollow Knight, Wargroove, Morphies Law, Pocket Rumble if it's ever released, Brawlout, Morphite and Owlboy. Ever hopeful we also get Dead Cells.

I've backed La Mulana 2, Chasm, and the Pathologic remake so I'm definitely excited for those.

There's very little information still but Spellbound could become something amazing.

I've played through Subnautica several times already and I can't wait for it to get a full release.

Ashen
The Last Light
Below
My Friend Pedro
Animal Farm

That's my top five, although reading through this thread there's about another ten that I want to check up on.

I'm disgusted by the lack of The Fall: Part 2 in this thread. Disgusted! So yeah, that's my most anticipated indie game right now.

I'm also really looking forward to Vane and Source, whenever they come out.

As far as my indie backlog goes, I really need to play:
Night in the Woods
Pyre (bought last week so I'll probably play it soon)
SteamWorld Dig 2

In order of anticipation level

  • Noita
  • Polybius & Tempest 4000 for PCVR
  • Compound PCVR
  • Into the Breach
  • Horizon Vanguard
  • Bomber Crew (WW2 FTL-like)
  • Industries of Titan
  • Budget Cuts PCVR
  • Memory of a Broken Dimension
  • Chasm
  • Katana Zero
  • Deadhold (Already out, but will buy when it's more than 1 level)
  • Hypnospace Outlaw
  • Battletech

It was Cuphead but it just came out.

So now it's Jupiter Hell, the Doom Roguelike sequel, coming sometime early next year.

What the fuck is this? DoA with swords?? I've NVR heard of it

It's not really a pure fighting game, since the maps are huge and you explore them in full freedom. It's bassicaly a sword dueling action game, for 1v1 battles and team matches that evolves the combat system from Jedi Outcast/Jedi Academy.
It was hard to recommend because it's essentially dead. Really hard to find people online to play. The team distanded and bassicaly there's just one guy working on it with some part time help. They're going to switch to to F2P early next year, just to inject some life into the online population. It will be pretty much all free, with barely any micros, as the goal is just to increase the userbase, not earn any real money.

1. Indivisible- very awesome to see it get a lotta first page love. Played the demo a looong time ago and was hooked. Love the main character, and also supposedly has Lea from Curses N Chaos, Hyper Light Drifter, and Shovel Knight as guest characters which makes it day 1 for me.
2. Death's Gambit
3. Hollow Knight

Wow, so many great looking games to add to the list in here!

I'll just add one that hasn't been mentioned yet, hopefully not because people have forgotten about it again due to its delay from 2016: 80's Overdrive.

The devs were interviewed by Nintendo Life in September about their radio silence and while they could not give a concrete release date, they did break down their development cycle and mentioned that they were finishing up. Hopefully the end result will reflect their hard work and commitment to not "publish a complete crap." The video shown with the NL interview does look promising imo.

Fake edit: This reminds me: what happened to that one Kickstarted retro indie sidescrolling action game that had some people up in arms when they completely changed the art style from something akin to 8-bit Shatterhand to a more 16-bit aesthetic? I wish I remembered its name... Edit: ah, found it, it was called Steel Assault and apparently they have a beta build out for backers. Any impressions? Not many people seem to be talking about this one.

Edit: Another thing that popped in my head: why do I never hear anyone wish for a Switch version of Rain World (assuming that that is a good way to measure indie staying power)? That game seems largely forgotten despite some good reviews. I never played it but it always looked interesting to me due to its moody world, slower pace and deviation from typical platforming / survival games.

Indivisible, Bloodstained, Wargroove and Tiny Metal are definitely some that were already mention. My personal one is Dual Gear which is a tactical actin turn based mecha game. The mechas are customizable.

There is a demo on steam btw.

There are too many to keep track of so I just try to stay aware of new releases for my chosen platforms rather than anticipating anything. One I am excited for and didn't see mentioned here was Fae Tactics.

I'm always up for more srpgs and Valdis Story was great so I have high hopes for their next game.

Number 1 is Celeste. I've had my eyes on that game since it got revealed at some Nintendo event.

Also excited for Hollow Knight, whenever it comes to whichever console.

I want a ton of indie games but to point out one that hasn't been mentioned:

kuso - This is the sequel to LOVE. Both games are minimalistic, simple platformers where you just run and jump but you can also place a checkpoint when you're on solid ground whenever you want. I spent six hours on LOVE despite it only having around fifteen levels when I played through it (I think a few more were patched in later). I think a good chunk of that time was aiming for the A++ achievement at which point I put it down.

And while already mentioned I'm real glad to see konjak come in here to point out that it was just submitted to cert. That'll be an instant purchase. Just checked and I have my e-mail receipt when I bought Noitu Love 2 straight from his site in January of 2009. I feel like I've been waiting forever for another game!

I'm already having trouble keeping up with all the cool indies released just recently. :(

Subscribed so I'll remember many of the games mentioned here.

Banner Saga 3 - great series, love the artstyle, story, characters and music, gameplay's right up my alley too, an xcom-like combat but more simplified which is a good thing for me.

phoniex point cause it's from the creator of xcom even though I only played enemy unknown. same goes for the system shock remake because I like bioshock, prey, and dead space

I'm gonna pick The Last Night as well. It just looks so cool, and the entire thing is amazingly beautiful to look at.
