Metal Gear Solid 4!
Its sexy looks
HDMI is standard
PSP connectivity
The fact the HDD can be upgraded with a non-proprietary drive

Anyone just wanting to say MGS4

use this logo:

Because MGS4 is like Prince now, just a symbol...

It's like a symbol that spells out 10 different words using actual letters?

BC
Some great exclusives (R&C, Uncharted, MGS4, Killzone 2, LBP)
Quiet hardware
Reliable
built-in wifi
USB not being locked down like on X360
HDD being user replaceable
option to transfer over music/movies/pictures easily through disc/USB/home network
stylish machine

things i don't like:

controller for most games
PSN is still weak, both the store and the online play
few people use headsets
still no in-game XMB and invites
forced installation on some games
controller only charging when the machine is on, no battery packs sucks

I hadn't seen the other one to be honest, but their equally sad. Because we both know their purpose, even from our high horses.

Sure, but the actual ugliness starts when some white knight feels the need to come into the thread and shit it up. I've been on GAF for awhile, and I hardly deny my own share of partinsanship in the early days when I didn't have much to play on my $600 launch unit. But jesus, it's gotten to the point that every single thread turns into a shitstorm. The GTA thread is going to be a fucking nightmare.

No one can stop people making stupid threads and no one can stop people talking about "their" console. And if some guy is in a console neutral thread being a douche, go crazy, but in circlejerk threads like this and the 360 thread, and my Halo screenshot thread, or the big Halo thread, or the Uncharted thread, why can't people just walk the fuck away? Seriously.

Do you like having to spend all your time in Halo and other 360 threads swatting trolls out of the way so you can talk about games? It's an ugly circle and the only way to bring it back down to reasonable levels is for reasonable folk to just let some stuff slide. People love their PS3s, people love their 360s, and people love their Wiis. Would you rather have them in a thread you can safely ignore, or trolling the latest 360 thread because they remember you being a jerk in their thread?

Now I'm going to get off my soapbox and go try to get a rainbow on PixelJunk Monsters.

"??? How is this possible?"

I don't know apparently others have had it come and go too with monitors but my ps3 hasn't had overscan on my monitor since I bought it and since I put on the new firmware to play hot shots golf it's there and really inconvient when you can't read things. :/

The thread was for what you liked about "your" PS3. You don't have one. Get out.

Um, he does have a PS3. He's in the HSG tournament thread, although his lousy UK connection made it impossible to connect.

Shinblade said:
Why did you both come in the thread and share this...? You could have just as superior outside, i'm sure.

Well the entire reason for the 360 thread was because there was a ton of PS3 related info at that time, so it was kind of a joke. This thread was made because someone randomly bumped that one, right? what is the point?

Well then I'm fucking stupid now, aren't I? :lol

I guess I'm confusing posters. Carry on.

Getting sad? it was sad with the 360 thread, now its just a bunch of 30-something dudes at a party talking about how their wife is better than yours because they get their shits and giggles from comparing boner sizes. We are way past sad.

but you must admit, some of the replies are so damn serious and redundant it's great fun

Let's not compain about the PS3 online connectivity, its really good and its free.

lets keep hatred about the PS3 out:

The thread title is what you LOVE about your PS3.

What I love:

- how quiet it runs when I'm playing games
- the blu-ray capabilities.
- charging the controller and that I don't have to buy a Play 'n Charge Kit to recharge it.
- the XMB as described in the OP (such a sleek interface)
- that the xmb is transparent when I'm watching a movie (please add this for voice chat and in-game menus).
- standard HDD, which I will be upgrading soon.

What I hate:

- Texture work, fill-rate. 360 titles always look better and have better textures. I wish the GPU was more powerful.
- Games are locked at 720p and don't scale the way they do on the 360. My set is 1080i native and 1080i material looks 2x better than 720p material.
- in-game software (no access to xmb, friends, messaging while I'm in a game. fix this massive oversight now.)

When I bought the console, that was all there was to it.

No hidden charges or making me buying extra add ons. It's all built into the PS3, and free online. I will never be dumb enough to pay for it, never have as a PC gamer for 10+ years and never will.

It looks like a lot of PC gamers are easily stepping in the PS3 base, b/c of the high similarities between the two.

Can I ask you as a PC gamer, what else makes you think of the PS3 being, almost like your PC?

i really dig my pstriple but seriously guys, this looks like it´s a reunion of 12 years old.

I propose a title change to this one and the 360 one (and the future wii one) to: ITT we suck own our dicks

My low regard for these kinds of threads stem more from the fact that GAF was once a place where you could get away from the list-threads and cicrle jerks. Hell, I've only been a member here for a short while but lurked for longer, and we've both watched this place become a haven for all the riff-raff that swirl down the shitter from other forums.

You're right of course, and I'm not helping the matter. There's really not much room for gaming talk anywhere these days.

My apologies to everyone here.

Well you can install linux on it.:D

It plays the video games which I, from time to time, decide to purchase.

So, the same reason I've loved every other system I've ever owned, ever.

The System:
Well Built
Going strong since day 1
easily backed up
upgradeable hard drive
Dual Shock 3
easy online interface
frequent firmware updates and revisions
many many features to bring it beyond gaming
blu-ray
bluetooth
XMB is the sex
really just too much to mention

The Games:
Uncharted DF
MGS4
GTAIV
Resistance 2
Killzone 2
LittleBigPlanet
HOME (beta)
RE

My #1 reason...

They treat me like an adult and target my demographic.

The 360 guide, all its ads and all 360 marketing is for the 14-24 year old male crowd. It's all about MTV, Axe body Spray, Mountain Dew, etc. It gets old.

Sony charges me in *gasp* Dollars and not points. The XBM is slick and streamlined and not full of marketing and ads.

Obviously the two systems share owners and demographics, one is skewed towards my age and style (married 34), the other not so much.

This is also reflected in the players online, this is why I prefer to play online via the PS3.

Hmm.. I did get sick of those bomchicawowow ads.....

PS2 Backwards Compatibility (I actually use this a lot because I have a huge backlog and I feel bad for the people who chose to go 40gb. Hey, their choice).
Blu Ray Disc Drive - Crystal Clear pictures on my HDTV
Reliability
Exclusive Games - Uncharted, Resistance, Ratchet.
Upcoming games - R2, KZ2, MGS4, etc.
Multiplatform games - I can do this, right? GTA4, DMC4, COD4, etc.
XMB - It's great being able to label things and put them in folders. The video preview that plays.

Something I miss - Stage6!!! Downloading videos off of stage6 and playing them on my PS3 was probably the coolest thing ever until Stage6 shut down.

One thing I can't stand - That damn Motorstorm song, shit is loud as hell

Look at your own post history. Your last 50 posts are nothing but bitching and moaning about posts and threads, and spreading fire to the console wars.

It's been bugging me lately.

My apologies spread beyond the thread.

I love that it comes with a rabid foaming army of fanboys that sense criticism like a shark and attack likewise

Alright. Well I suppose I should apologize as well then...I shouldn't have replied so brashly. :lol

And for heaven's sake, go beat Matador!

Well another factor is dedicated servers. The fact that a free service is offering dedicated server for first party games and not p2p is a great, but sucks when third party supports p2p.

I'm also not the type of man that would pay for avatars or wallpapers. Sony has an open system that gives me choice on what I want to do with it.

The best thing for me is that I use my PS3 for primary console games(platformers, racers, etc) that I don't find on PC and use my PC for k/m games (FPS, RTS,wRPG,etc) since that is the platform they are meant to be played at with mods, dedicated servers, etc.

A 320 GB hard drive i put in.
Folding@home while listening to music
Sexy look
PS2 backwards
wireless controllers
XMB
Custom wallpapers on the XMB menu
Reliable
Being organized with folders
Visual players while a song is playing (wish for more)
Blue-Ray (duh. lol)
Free online.
