What do you want in Resident Evil 6?

Who: I couldn't care less.
Where: The location really doesn't matter.
What: It needs to go back to trying to be scary and have an actual atmosphere.

Moving and shooting.
No forced co-op.
Batter horror, take some cues from Amnesia. You always fear what's lurking in the dark and unknown. Don't get all up in people face's.

RE4-2.

Who: Starring Leon

Where: Raccoon City, RE1/2/3 era

What: Wesker is back somehow and Leon tracks him to his hideout. Wesker laments everything that has happened and wants to be back in power, so he somehow now has a time machine. He uses it to go back and take control of Umbrella at its peak, but Leon follows him back and finds himself in Raccoon City. Leon must now team up with all the past heroes to stop future Wesker and the outbreak, but Wesker has planned for everything and the monsters are far more dangerous this time around. It's ok though, the controls are decent this time around.

I honestly hated everything about RE4 apart from the superior gameplay. And sure, most gamers would say "uhm isn't that what matters?" and I'd be in no position to argue, but as a fan of the series who waited so long for the shitty story to play out in a satisfactory way, it was pretty much a spectacular disappointment for me.

I really don't like that idea. RE is at its best when embracing B-movie shlock horror with action elements. I don't want it to take itself too seriously, there are other horror franchises that do that.

The more I think about it a soft reboot wouldn't be too bad.

Set it in the past (1970s?) and have a low tech Umbrella outbreak in a small town, maybe a bit too close to what they did in RE4 though.

Just as long as there are no spooks or other supernatural elements. They should stay out of RE. Otherwise it'll just be another Silent Hill/Fatal Frame.

Wouldn't mind that, at least it's scary! :)

Not to mention I love Silent Hill and Fatal Frame.

I also wonder how Lord Saddler managed to stuff such a huge Plaga monster into his body.

RE 3.5 looked really good and based on the videos it nailed the pacing of classic RE. But the psychological stuff going on was much more Silent Hill than RE.

yeah but it was nice when it actually used to try. I have felt uneasy playing RE before; it's silly and more action driven, but the series used to have some dignity with the horror aspects.

oh god

you know that's another thing about it, as stupid as the story was in the earlier games, at least it was coherent with it. it was all about "taking down Umbrella!" when RE4 came out, any level of consistency was fucking decimated with an even dumber plot.

I want zombies back for RE6 . The turn that the RE story has taken since RE4, does not work. 4 was a nice spinnoff, but its not Resident Evil.
Even better i want an HD remake of RE2.

Barry as the main character. In fact, Barry as the only character. All the enemies are also Barry.

The final boss is Barry.

Nailed it!

Seriously though, I want to see a return to the settings of the original three games. City or mansion. At the very least, no shanty towns and wooden huts. Genuine scares and an "on-edge" atmosphere - I don't want an AI co-op partner ruining the tension in single player. That's not to say I don't want a co-op option - I just don't want a silly AI character to worry about in the main game. Totally ruined Resi 5 for me.

Well it was explained with a new virus, so I think it wasn't too bad.

Completely new story with new characters discovering a seperate outbreak somewhere else. The series needs to return to its roots in terms of concept. Update the controls, but scare the shit out of us. I want to see them actually try and make a horror game. Someone needs to make a damned horror game that doesn't suck ass or turn into a pure action game.

But I'm sure we'll probably get some shitty sidestory of racoon city or angry peasants out in russia that you have to endlessly kill or some kind of stupid shit.

this series it just... I want it to be good again :(

The story had already derailed with CV, so by the time RE4 came out I stopped giving a shit about it.

Absolutely but it was still familiar and still had more or less the same story, just that it was trying to add new mythos to it. I dug it.

This is actually what they tried to do with RE4 and it was working for me until it became a bigger self-parody than even the other installments. Yes, the obvious direction to go in is to include the kidnapping of the President's daughter and shoehorn Leon into it so that he can do battle with a midget pirate who is worshipped by a bunch of assholes that go around saying "Go Halo."

holy shit I take it back that's kind of amazing

I agree that they need to get more elements of horror in... RE5 was a big step back. But they can't make it subtle or go the Amnesia/Silent Hill route. There's no reason to take anything from those series'. The story and acting has always been laugh-out-loud stupid and you've always been going around with rocket launchers and triple-crossbows and grenade launchers and killing all kinds of crazy shit.

RE4 was even more hilarious and more action packed, but it still had countless horror aspects. The red eyes floating in the darkness, the graveyard and church illuminated with lightning, the eerie chanting cultists, the spooky lab with "invincible" enemies, the chainsaw maniacs, animated suits of armor in an ancient castle... perfect B-horror.

Who? Someone new, preferably a female lead. Leon and Ada in supporting roles would be fine.

Where? Doesn't really matter. If something has to be recommended, then somewhere in Hong Kong (starting at night, ending at daybreak).

What? Survival horror, not a shooter, since Capcom has gone on record stating that they can't make up their minds as to which it will be. RE5 was a poor attempt at recreating RE4, so something more methodical in its pacing with puzzles and exploration as the primary focus, putting combat second, might help. Ditch the forced co-op and real-time inventory management RE5 introduced, bring back RE4's attache case system.

Variety of stages, survival horror and puzzles like in the old times.

Something like that RE4 unreleased beta.

Playing as rebecca or barry would be ok.

god no anybody but Rebecca, she's the least interesting character in the series. the last thing we need is a game where she's the main character. that would derail the train even more than RE4 did.

Or Barry and Rebecca teamup, period.

I wouldn't mind Sherry too though. It's either they'll make her a frail girl (lady) who hasn't touched a gun or a badass girl.

The best version of RE4/RE5, including controls.
God Hand dodging while aiming or using knife.
No more button prompts for dodging because of the above.
Boss fights which demand more evasion.
Less co-op based, but having multiple characters who play very differently would be cool. (I really want a RE2 story structure, actually.)

All of the above is just a wishlist. What really matters is this: Mercenaries.

EDIT: lol I ignored the template. Well, the template is dumb anyway. I don't give a who and a where, just what.

I don't want RE6.
Never was scary. It was always corny, so corny it was funny, but you can't do that anymore. It's been done and the point is that you're not suppose to be aware of how B grade your shit is or you defeat the whole point of a B movie/game.

Only RE 4 had good gameplay. Before it was overly simplistic with awful controls, but was passable because there was nothing else to play. After it is too arcadey and stupid, not funny stupid, just stupid.

It fit and created a niche, but that niche has been filled to the brim and has faded in relevancy. Give it a rest.

Probably just something new or a change would be nice. I've already lost interest on the whole "story" aspect of the series and couldn't care less for any kind of continuation, and I won't enjoy the RE5 style gameplay too much, so they should do whatever they want as long as it's fresh, like the change in RE4 from traditional survival horror.

I'm not sure if capcom still have the talents to pull it off though.
