What Does Gaf think about Nioh 2?

JokerMM

Gay porn is where it's at.
i've heard nothing but good things about this game everywhere, but i value the opinions of my fellow Based Gafers more
as huge fan of NG games, i feel like this may scratch that itch

I really enjoyed it! Get the season pass as well. It's very worth it!

I enjoyed the ninja gaiden games as well.

cheap ass souls rip off.

didn't play the first one but got the second. i suppose if you hadn't played souls/sekiro/bloodbone/eldenring then you could enjoy it but it didn't do anything for me.

hopefully there isn't a 3rd game.

The combat in Nioh makes Souls look like a sad joke. To think you guys actually think the best out there is 2 attacks with zero combos, and if you're lucky maybe 1 weapon art tied to an MP bar that sucks 70% of the time. Don't get me started on the auto-tracking enemies and other amateur shit the enemies pull off.

Sorry, are people pretending that it's illegal to be attracted to the opposite sex now

Nioh 2 is basically hyperactive Souls with a bunch more options and shit you have to keep track of as you're playing. It's as good as From's games imo, better combat and character creation but less of a feeling of exploring a world and some annoying Diablo loot mechanics. e: also Nioh 2 is 100% better than Elder Rings

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife

Gotta admit, as someone who enjoys the combat in the souls games I got my ass kicked in both Nioh and Nioh 2, the later I only tried for a short while.

Should go back to it some day. Having being able to adapt to something like Strangers of Paradise I'd guess I could also try with Nioh. Is it's combat even more complex than SoP's?
Hey, almost no big budget modern games feture cute girls, so I think it's something to commend the game for. I think they even photoscanned some model for one of the characters but I could be mistaken.

It just came off as creepy

Nioh is similar to SoP but different. On the whole, I'd say it is more complex and more unforgiving. SoP is a little more casual at times, and the window for that absorb counter is huge. But they play very similarly. Nioh requires a lot more mastery on the enemies, and the stances. It's totally worth it. I don't think you're at all incapable of playing it, it's just a question of how much time you want to put in to learn it. I played the beta for part 1 for like 12 hours, and just repeated level 1 until I fully grasped the combat and was beating the 1st boss without getting hit.

I'm happy to give some basic tips, but it comes down to just practice and if you find that fun. It's not for everyone and the game can be very punishing especially in the beginning.

Nioh is more complex for sure, it's not really that difficult to figure out though imo. Getting used to having three stances that each have different dodges as well as attacks is very tricky at first. You also have to un-Souls your mind and not over-rely on dodging, though SoP probably has done that for you well enough. It's a game where you always have some consideration to make, it's constantly engaging and that's what I enjoy about it personally

I never did finish SoP. Maybe I should go back. It's not bad but I didn't think it had enough depth to justify the length of its missions. Maybe I'll replay Nioh 2 instead, try some different weapon types.

Sounds like a game that's hard to get into but that's very rewarding once you do so. Cool! I actually played it for a bit, beat what I think was the first stage but dropped it since I wasn't in the mood for a mechanically complex game such as this.

I have to get back to it some day tho. Hard games like this can get very fun once you master them, and I love what I've seen of the monster design.

Nioh is pretty hardcore mind you. There's a different level of commitment required. If you are a scrub the bosses will eat your ass. Just FYI.

It's great. Part 2 is very similar to the point you might just skip 1 honestly and go with 2 which is the better game, but that's up to you.

Some things people often miss in Nioh:
  1. Fully mastering Ki Pulse is 100% required. Usually just need to get used to it for a bit.
  2. You can stance switch off ki pulses, and your dodges are better in some stances than others.
  3. Your enemies play by the exact same stamina rules you do which is amazing. You can hang back on early enemies and let them whiff 3x and then just hit them once and they are in stamina fatigue, just like you would be.
  4. Lots of build variety with magic and items.
I would just drop into co-op stages after beating a stage and just repeat it for fun, grind some skills up and fully master each area. I think the game was designed for repetition like an action game, not like a souls game.

Better than Nioh 1.

Have more build/fun build than Nioh 1, though only at the late/end game . Early mid game there are not many build you can do , so its pretty straight forward .
I did some stupid build like timely block to get mana(what its name? cant remember) to spam the youkai ablility to deal damage . I rarely even press the attack button in this build . Just block / parry and youkai ablity .

Better level design than nioh 1 (though compared to Fromsoft its just sad really ...)

Overall fun loot-based aRPGs game , average boss design , average level design , below average graphics .

Its a better looted base arpg than fromsoft game .

I got plat in Nioh 1 and I remember it was harder to get into the game than souls, more complexity, but what I disliked was the amount of ng+s required to get the plat (I think because of the DLCs, can't remember).

Is Nioh 2 like that too?

The Souls games are my favorite series of games, but Nioh's combat puts Souls to shame. In a world of copycats Nioh is the only series that can stand toe to toe with the original overall. Most Souls fans who hate the Nioh games hate them because they can't deal with the added complexities of combat, the speed, and frankly the difficulty.

Nioh is Souls with a splash of Ninja Gaiden, IMO. I was disappointed Nioh 3 wasn't in development but Wo Long is looking mighty fine and should be a banger.

Nioh 2 has the second best combat of any souls like game, first being Sekiro. Story is more coherent but not rly better. Atmosphere sucks doodoo tho. Team ninja are fucking horrible when it comes to tech/gfx/art style. Yaokai enemies look cool tho. Level design is inferior to any souls.

Ninja Garden with a diablo-esque loot and gear system.
I loved those games and will certainly spend a lot of time in their next installment, Wo-Long.
Graphics and levels are rather basic but the combat paired with the loot spiral just click with me.

My GotY for 2021, (PC release). Deep and rewarding gameplay with a very high skill ceiling. Tons of customization and ways to play.

It had a good character creator. I didn’t make it much further than that because it was too hard

Great at the time, albeit too loot heavy.
It's got a few too many systems going on over-complicating things, some of which don't even matter until NG+.

Bit dated now.

I should try to get back into it. I loved Nioh 1 but I felt like 2 started off real slow. Maybe it was just fatigue since I had finished the first one recently but I basically gave up in the first area.

Even though the comparisons with FROM seem obvious, they are pretty dumb imo.

I play FROM for exploring and surviving nightmarish worlds. I play Team Ninja titles for hardcore action.

The combat in Nioh and Nioh 2 is brilliant, but I found both games a bit too long. They kind of outstayed their welcome towards the end. Although there are shortcuts to unlock in Nioh, the level design isn't quite as intricate or clever as the Souls games.

Nioh is definitely worth getting although, as others have said, Nioh 2 is better so skip the first one.

I'm actually playing through it with a friend in coop these days. About 80 hours in, we're currently in ng+++ to unlock the underworld, which is quite tedious to do, I wish you could unlock all modes without so many ng+ required.

I think the gameplay is cool, I like fists the most out of all the weapons, overall the combats are pretty fun, but outside of this, there are a LOT of problems.

The art direction is incredibly bland, everything feels super generic and repetitive. The level design is boring, the shortcuts are always the same, everytime you start a level you will see the same type of door that's obviously closed and you will open from the other side later. It's either this or a ladder, while souls game have more diverse type of shortcuts that feel more rewarding and clever.
The shortcuts are also actually pretty dumb because they don't carry onto side quests, so playing the side quests just feeling like restarting the levels over and over, there's no sense of progression which is too bad in my opinion, it would have been better if it felt more included into the actual progression of the story.

The sidequests are also very repetitive, especially with the same maps being used over and over. It sometimes doesn't even make any sense, because the maps are re used even in different regions, so sometimes you're in a completely different region, but the level will be one from region 1 lol. Real immersion killer and super repetitive. There are even maps re used from Nioh 1. It just really feels lazy.

The loot system is horrible for me. There is way too much lot, you're constantly looting new objects and end up with an inventory full of hundreds of new items, which totally kill my motivation to make a clean build, because the game wants you to renew it every 30 minutes. It's really too much a feels like a chore to keep up with. I usually end up selling all of it without even looking at it because I know it's useless, that I will get something better the next mission anyway, so I only check every few hours.

One other really annoying thing in the game are the ranged ennemies. EVERY combats in the game, you will have several ennemies in the distance, on a rooftop or something, shooting at you. It ends up being extremely annoying, not really for a matter of difficulty, but just because it kills the pace of the game. Every encounter you have to draw your ranged weapon and check for all ennemies and get rid of them to finally be able to fight the main ennemies, it's incredibly repetitive and annoying, it really ruins a lot of the combats in my opinion. There are also a lot of... "difficulty" methods that feel lazy, like ennemies always waiting for you hidden in a corner, or the same repetitive traps etc.

The technical aspect is also really bad, with crazy pop in all the time, you even have huge element of background that appear and disappear suddenly, like even whole mountains, it's ridiculous.

Despite all of this, I still played it for a long time because the core mecanics are fun, especially in coop, but I definitely wouldn't have played this much alone, it's just way too repetitive. It's too bad because I really think there is the potential for an actual great game, but the whole structure and content feels extremely lazy, it could be a lot better.

Sorry for the long post :messenger_grinning_sweat:
