What game purchases have you recently regretted?

I was going to buy BL2 hoping single player would have improved and you guys just saved me money

It has improved. You're in a thread about games people didn't like. Of course the impressions will be negative.

I've put in 40 hours to single(so far) on top of multi. I'd say this is the game BL wanted to be. So if you liked the first, this is a no brainer. However, if you didn't like the first...

While I don't normally like games like this, BL1 and BL2 are for some odd reason an exception to this (a reason that I really don't know)

Agreed. I hate the quest stucture in Borderlands, but for some weird reason I don't really mind it specifically in both games (it does get a bit repetitive though). Every other game that does this gets demoted to "piece of shit" in my book though. It's probably the fact that Borderlands doesn't really feel like any of those other games, it feels more unique in its artstyle and characters and environments.

Dark Souls dominated so much of the past twelve months that there were much less chances for disappointment this year. For a title that I was counting the days for, Rage hurt my feelings a little. The shooting was bliss, though it wasn't enough to bring me to finish it yet after three stalled attempts. Journey was another, but I knew what I was getting into. I was on board solely for the co-op with the Mrs. (who loved it enough for the both of us).

Pokemon Black 2. I liked it, but it just wore me out, this series is in a serious need of a rehaul. Managed to trade it in with a profit of 70 cents.

Everything this year. I am pretty burned out I guess.

Most recently, Retro City Rampage and Cave Story from the 3DS eshop. RCR is fun for awhile but really just made me want to play real retro games. Cave Story, the character is too small for that little 3DS screen. Gives me a headache after playing for an hour.

After that whole EULA thing with Steam a few months ago, I haven't bought anything from Steam but I did buy alot during the summer sale and I have played none of it. Just burned out, like I said.

I've spent money on quite a few games this year I didn't finish or enjoy,

Kingdoms of Amalur(fun but repetitive)
Max Payne 3(boring)
Ghost Recon(just average)
Dragon Quest IX(just can't get into it like VIII)
Final Fantasy XIII(hallways!)
NCAA Football 13(tired of these games)

Dishonored.

Maybe not regretted it to the point that I wanted to return it, but it didn't live up to my expectations at all. Never getting that hyped about a game again.

Its funny seeing borderlands 2 - I thought it was just me.

I think I just played the original too much - I could tell it was a great improvement technically and it was gorgeous. I played the original so much though that playing the sequel just felt the same with different looking guns.

The guns seemed to be in the same basic stereotypes versus having entirely different types of guns (eg laser beams, force projectos).

One of the sad trends to me is how even scifi games fit conventional current timespan/tech weapons like pistol/shotgun/sniper/SMG/AR instead of completely different types of tech. I was disappointed when I found that halo 4 new high tech weapons look different (eg assembling from hovering parts) but act and fire ammo like regular guns.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk.2. I just CAN'T stand the framerate, it gets to my head, and it doesn't seem to be exceptionally good, so I don't think I'm going to bother suffering through it. So it's just sitting there.

While I'm enjoying Mk2, the framerate and how zoomed in the camera seems to be are two major issues I have with it. I get a headache if I play for more than an hour or two at a time.

The only "purchase" I regret is trading a rare TF2 hat for Dirt Showdown. Now, I loved Dirt 2 and to a lesser extent Dirt 3. The most fun I had with them was going online and crashing into people and hopefully getting yelled at over voice chat. Dirt Showdown was something I figured I'd be into, but the game is just completely dead. Nobody was playing it and this was not long after it came out. It got a pretty big discount on Steam's last sale too and I tried finding games during the day it was on sale and the day after. Nothin' - still only a couple people playing. What a bummer, man.

Other than that, I haven't made a purchasing decision I felt was poor for a long time. I never ever buy games on launch day anymore and this has served me well.

Yup. I just finished DQIX and it's nowhere near as good as VIII. I think the main reason is your party is generic, voiceless characters. Story doesn't pick up until you find all the fyggs. Also the world feels great, but not as magical as DQVIII for me for some reason. It's been about 6 years I think, almost about time to play through VIII again. I really miss that world.

My latest regret was Dragon's Dogma up until I just said screw side quests and just went for the main story. The mission structure is all kinds of tore up.

Resident Evil 6. Really tried to love it, but pushing the A-button to get of a roof, made me feel the game was playing me instead of me playing the game

Kingdoms of Amalur

I have been playing 10 hours, but at least I've lost 2 hours selling and disarming the f**king weapons and armors, because this shitty limited inventory...

Resident Evil 6. I feel bad about this one because I convinced a buddy to buy it so we could co-op it like we did RE5 (which was a blast). Well, one chapter into Leon's campaign and I'm certain I never want to touch this game again

TTT2 and DOA5 (and I might as well through SC5 in too). Swimsuits are nice and all but I really don't think I can ever get into 3D fighters no matter how hard I try.

This too, except change 3D fighters to fighting games, period. I don't know why I keep trying with this genre but I will say Tekken Tag 2 is an excellent game.

I was fortunate enough to be able to play through all of DQIX with somebody else and that made it lots of fun. I definitely understand when people say they dislike the game because it was painfully obvious as we were playing through it just how barebones it was compared to previous DQ games. The pacing of the game is really bizarre too, but DQVIII felt like it had about five endings too I guess.

That gif really sums it up right there.

* Dive back to dodge and shoot
* Scoot back and shoot on the ground
* 3 Quick-shots
* Melee finisher

Easily the most dynamic and fluid shooter since Vanquish. Resident Evil 6 really is the new Godhand. Totally misunderstood and underrated by people who can't play it that well.

Tell it like it is.

My Vita to be perfectly honest. I haven't touched the thing in weeks. Once VLR comes out (and P4 to some extent), I'll probably be done with the console.

3D Dot Game Heroes EU version. I should have imported US version instead of painfully learning that there is no bug-solving patch for us europeans :(

And by painfully I mean the game froze twice before I could get out of the castle at the very start.

Portal 2. Big insult to the first game, especially as a full priced game.
This is one of those, my opinion is more important then yours because my standards are way higher posts isn't it.
If I paid $120 for Portal 2 I wouldn't have regretted it. But I guess everyone is entitled to have their opinion.

I didn't like the first, I found it incredibly boring as a single player game and since even RPS seemed to praise it, I had some hope. And well, negative opinions are to be taken into account just as much as positive ones

I dunno if regret is the right word but I think my notion of supporting developers by buying fighters like sf x tk and tt2 is a bit foolish if I never get round to playing them.

I kinda regret darksiders 2 but I know once I am in the mood to play it, I'll love it.

My problem is than this year I have bought a lot of games and systems, that I don't play very often, even when I'm in my house with plenty of spare time. I'd rather be online, here and elsewhere.

SWTOR they had the budget, backing and skills. Still blows my mind. Lucas should just let Sony turn back on SW Galaxies might have more players on it at this point.

Borderlands 2 hands down.

The graphics are better but its honestly just more Borderlands. Guess I had enough after the first one after all.

Mass Effect 3: Beeing forced to playing that horrible horde mode multiplayer just to get a slightly less crappy ending. Really Bioware? Really??

Skyrim: Actually enjoyed it the first hours but somehow the whole skill system got to me and the characters are so insanely hideous in this game. Also the whole focus on gods etc put me off the game. I can understand why many people love it, just wasnt for me.

Sleeping Dogs.

Not a terrible game, I just feel so...indifferent towards it. I had given up last month because it was getting to be a bit of a slog. Decided to pick it up over the weekend to finish the story, which I did, but it still didn't do much for me. The definition of "okay".

And with all the games I'd like to buy right now I could really use that $55 back. Oh well.

Uncharted 3. Everything bad from the first 2 games dialled up to 11 with little of the charm or intrigue brought along for the ride. Some of the absolute worst combat encounter design I've played this generation.

Also, the PS Vita. Not going to shit on the system too much as there are enough people around here that do the same, but it wasn't the right system for me and in the end was a waste of my money.

$55 ($40 for the expansion, $15 to re-sub for a month) and I think I've put 5 hours into it and can't bring myself to go back.

That being said, once the "WoW itch" comes around, I'll be glad I already have it.

None, learned my lesson with GTA 4. Meaning I don't blindly buy a game based on the name or the average score. Rather read some comments check user scores, play the demo and watch gameplay vids on youtube.
