What game purchases have you recently regretted?

Starting to regret MGS HD collection. Anybody who thinks either 2 or 3 play better than 4 needs to take the nostalgia goggles off. No crouch walk, worse aiming mechanism, no first person toggle... and then there are the endless codec conversations. I didn't realize just how much MGS4 cut them down. And I'm surprised how much I miss the octocamo too.

I finished both on PS2 and I'm shocked how tough it is to go back to them after 4. There's a lot of cool stuff about them still, but MGS4 built on what they did right and corrected most of what they did wrong. At least they look great.

Maybe I'll just skip straight to Peacewalker.

I buy tons of stuff (mainly on steam) that I don't play more than an hour, while I've played Skyrim for over 100 hours or already have 20 hours into XCOM since last week, but I don't know that I regret most of the purchases.

I like the idea of playing them in the future, and I still think I'll eventually get to at least most of it.

That being said, I have a weakness for JRPGS, and I recently purchased an NIS game I hadn't really heard of called The Last Rebellion for $10 on a whim. It's truly terrible, and I'd advise avoiding it at all costs. I played for about 2 hours, and I think that was more than enough.

The last new, full price game I bought that I'm disappointed in is Guild Wars 2, but that's mainly because I played for a few days then got sidetracked by other things and never went back to it. I thought the game itself was a pretty good time from what I saw. I just can't imagine when I will want to get back to it. I don't have the time to sink hundreds of hours into an MMO at the moment.

Guild Wars 2. Told myself I wouldn't play MMOs but gave into this pile of shit. Luckily I only lasted two weeks.

Avatar quote. I also played a bit too much of FFXI, I like that GW2 don't require too much of me to get stuff done. I always wanted a pick up and play mmo, still want a game like this or straight up single player ffxi bst class though.

Resident Evil 6. I even took a week off of work to play it thinking I'd like it at least as much as 5. Nope.

I did the same with Street Fighter X Tekken and was just as disappointed. But on the plus side, I discovered Binary Domain and played through that game instead that week. Time well spent.

Resident Evil 5.

Holy crap is it a bad game. I'm new to the series, but god damn is that game bad.

The only reason I was able to continue was partialy because of the fun co-op, especially with the jokes we made. If I was alone, I would be slitting my wrists.

Mists of Pandaria.

I played for one week and then uninstalled. Hardcore raiding is what I love about WoW but at this point in my life I just do not want to make time for it. There is too much other fun stuff to do.

BF3 Armored Kill DLC on PS3...the trailers looked so awesome but they play like shit since the maps are too big for 24 players, most of the time I am just running around looking to kill someone or die. :(.. should have increased the player count to at least 32 but I know that was not possible.

So glad I Gamefly'd RE6.

I'm enjoying Leon's campaign, but I hear that's where the enjoyment stops.

Friend is raving about Ada Wong's. But you have to slog through a LOT of bull**** to get to it.

Edit: Personal regrets?

-Tokyo Jungle JP Retail. Great game, but I wish I'd bought the less than half price US PSN version.

also, Darksiders 2

game drags for so fucking long I was actually nauseated when i stopped playing. Never again

I'm tempted to get the Serious Sam Complete Pack on Steam for 23.75 bucks, but I'm afraid I'll regret it. So take it like a preemptive regret (?)

Darksiders II

I found the first one boring and because quickly uninterested, so you'd figure I would have learned my lesson. Unfortunately, I joined the hype train and I wish I would have just skipped it instead. I just don't think these games are for me.

Last game purchase I really regretted was portal 2. an actively depressing experience.

Also because I had it set up in my mind like "I will get Portal 2 or Mortal Kombat, which?" settled on P2. Ever after wished it had been MK.

Okay, I take all this back. I got into MGS2 and suddenly I like it way better than the first time I finished it back when. THe movement is so buttery compared to the other games in the series. Sure, there's still a lot of jank in the control scheme (the movements involved in getting dog tags are more difficult than they would be IRL - screw this analog button and no 1st person toggle nonsense), but it sucked me in for 3 hours last night so I can't really complain about it too much. Plus, the HD version looks fantastic.

I would say:

Resident Evil 6. Really enjoyed the game for a good portion, then it became a slog. While the story and explosive elements lead to shock and awe moments, by 3/4 of the way through I wanted the game to end. It just goes on and on and on. The parts that really grated, were replaying the ogre man fights multiple times with various characters and endless QTE segments. The segments were poorly designed and didn't leave anything other than a bitter taste.

I was most let down, as RE is and has been my all time favorite series since the PS1. I've played and typically enjoyed all of the mainline entries (0,1,2,3,4,5,CV and Revelations). I'm omitting 6, because while I didn't love 4 and liked 5, but consider it not really RE - 6 feels like RE, but is a far less enjoyable game when finished than 5 was. That was the disappointment. While I liked it more than 5 initially, I was done by the end of it. Revelations is without a doubt the best RE game this year and one of the better installments, in the series.

I've already traded in 6 and RE-acquired Dragons Dogma. That game is love.
