What game purchases have you recently regretted?

I bought Dishonored last Friday. Today D³ arrived and I haven't finished Dishonored yet. 2 more weeks and ACIII is here, then a week later Halo 4. So yeah, maybe I regret to buying too many games.

But then again... nah....

Okay I'll be fair here. I posted earlier saying I regretted Res Evil 6 since I didn't like it at first. But after watching my brother play it for a while we decided to play co-op.

Admittedly when I played single player I didn't like it, but when I play co-op it's not so bad. I wouldn't call it a good game by any means, but it's not as bad as my first impression was. It's playable

Guild Wars 2 no doubt. WvW just feels like a big zerg and having no holy trinity actually hurts the game, had more fun with the run of the mill MMO to be honest (even though I end up quitting them during the first free month).

It really is pretty fun once you get a hang of all the controls. Play some Mercenaries, that shit is addictive.

Armored Kill DLC for Battlefield 3 for the 360.
The maps run like shit, have glitched geometry and are about 3 times too big.

hahaha you bought Armored Kill for console.....hehehe.
Sorry is shouldnt laugh.

On Topic

Max Payne 3 - f i could go back in time to the moment i thought buying Max Payne 3 was going to be a good idea, id go back and punch myself several times in the nuts.
Probably the worst game my PC has seen.....note i played Blades of Time.

Call of Duty: MW3 - paid half price, still wasnt worth it, cuz i find the story mode unbearable and once i reach my first prestige i just really stopped having fun with the game.

Oh and from the looks of it the WarZ. Constant client crashes (I know it's Alpha but still) and overall not a fun game for me.

Max Payne 3, what a waste. Totally forgettable. Actually I can't forget how bad it was. Compared to the classy Max Payne and Max Payne 2, it's a joke. Max Payne transformed into a dudebro.

Dillon's Rolling Western. Tower defense by Nintendo? Got bored after the second level.

I kind of regret buying Rhythm Fever. More of the same and I actually preferred the touch controls. The mini-games were more fun.

My problem with Max Payne is that he's a bumbling old man who fucks shit up yet still manages to make the most inane mistakes.

It's pretty much Inspector Closeau: The Videogame.

I regretted buying Torchlight a week before Diablo 3 hit. Loved Diablo 3 better (I haven't played Torchlight 2 though), even though I hate the hell out of inferno. Still, the first 100++ hours I spent on that game was fun.

Guild Wars 2. Bought in a brief window of free time and I doubt I'll be getting back to it anytime soon. Good game that scratches the MMO itch but I should have waited.

Torchlight 2. Combat just feels mindless, click potion repeat. Maybe I need a new class or maybe I'm burnt out on the genre at the moment, but it just hasn't grabbed me like the first one did.

DYAD
DYAD
DYAD
DYAD

And the newest Pokemon

Yeah, Dyad is one of the only things that come to mind... not because it's a bad game by any means, but because it's waaay too challenging for me - the sense of speed + distracting visuals look awesome but I can't grasp my head around it (I've had the same problem with Minter's Space Giraffe).

Not sure about huge regret but the following 3 I should on reflection have skipped:

Rage - loved the good stuff (animations and shooting) but the overall package was just lacking and felt unfinished and the ending really showed how much they were rushing to package the game up and get it out the door by that point.

Mass Effect 3 - not the ending so much as the overall package. To be fair I never really rated ME franchise that highly and felt it got away with fairly average elements somehow, but I figured I'd invested through two games and had my save file so might as well see how it ends. Then I found myself piloting a teeny tiny version of my ship in a 2D plane from some cute, teeny tiny Reapers chasing me and thought WTF? I slogged through to the end but was way past caring by the time the Deus Ex Machina I knew Bioware would have to pull into play appeared. At least when Jeff Goldbloom implausibly uploaded the virus in ID4 the tone was humorous and knowing. ME3 (ME in general on reflection) was all po-faced serious when it was resorting to the kinds of narrative get out of jail your English teacher told you to avoid when you were 12.

Max Payne 3 - looks lovely on my PC and I did kind of dig the whole downer vibe at first... but the game just goes on and on with no variation while shoving more and more of Rockstar's usual "borrowed" tropes from films on top of the weak narrative until the whole thing collapsed for me. Might wrap it up one day but no desire currently.

Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition (PC)
Already had my fill with the console version, but saw this for cheap and went for it. Played it once, and not for long.

Persona 4 Arena (360)
My gaming had moved to PC long before this came out, but I still bought it

Mark Of The Ninja (360)
Awesome game, but I should've waited for the Steam version

Borderlands 2 (PC)
Had fun for 8 hours, but I'm done with it.

Building a massive backlog currently, so wouldn't know if they are disappointing or not.

Also, it is hard to be disappointed when you don't drop $60 on new releases anymore. Hell, only thing I bought at release this year was Mass Effect 3 and the Vita.

So actually yes, I do have one huge disappointment so far this year:

Uncharted_Golden_Abyss.png

Edit: Just saw that I am no longer a junior. Cool.

Torchlight 2. Diablo 3 got about 100 hours more playtime and interest out of me, and that should say something right there. I just find it insipid, with no appeal in the story, sense of character progression or itemization whatsoever.

Guild Wars 2. Only bought it because of the hype and my friends wanting me to. I knew right from the first beta weekend that I wasn't going to really get into it, and it became the first MMO in YEARS that I didn't reach max level in. And I have absolutely no desire to launch it and play some more.

It goes back but it still affects me to this day: Brink. What a god awful piece of shit that lured me in with the sweet siren call of "class-based light-rpg-fps with mirrors edge parkour!" Before Brink I was buying probably buying 1 $30+ game a month on average. Afterwards I'm only buying maybe 3 a year. I have Brink to thank for not getting Diablo 3 or Max Payne 3 for instance, since normally I would have gotten those at launch and probably been fairly disappointed but enjoyed them enough not to learn a lesson. Now I'm careful to vet games to the point I don't get them unless it's an absolutely known quantity ahead of time or I watch a lets-play/quick-look that convinces me I'll really love it.

It has become clear to me that I should've bought XCOM last week and waited a bit on Dishonored till it came down in price a tad. Because Dishonored is cool, but I picked up XCOM yesterday and it has consumed me.

I suppose in the end supporting two games that are examples of what I'd like to see more of in games isn't really a bad thing.

I bought Alan Wake during the last Steam sale and wish that I hadn't. I love survival horror and looked forward to this title but, the combat just ruined the game for me.

It was only $8, so I guess I don't regret it, but Syndicate was a complete snooze-fest. The shooting was serviceable, but everything else was super bland. What a waste of the license.

Journey. Yeah I said it. I enjoy atmospheric games like Flower, Team Ico, etc. i found this to be incredibly boring and dont understand the hype at all.

just bought alpha protocol for 8 bucks. lots of gaffers seem to think this game is a veritable diamond in the rough, specifically because of the dialogue and story. Well, I think the story and dialogue are boring, although the janky gameplay is distracting but tolerable. Overall, not the worst game i've ever played and i'll give it a few more hours, but i'll likely end up returning it to gamestop before my 7 day return period is up.

The last one was probably Lollipop Chainsaw. I had fun with it but it felt kind of sloppy and I thought it was too short. I didn't think it was a bad game but I would have felt more comfortable getting it cheap.

Also recently I picked up Spirit Tracks and ended up not caring about it at all, traded it to a friend for SMT: Nocturne and I'm preeeetty sure he got the short end of that deal.

Borderlnds 2. I don't think I've played more than 8 hours.

I sort of regretted getting RE6 at full price before, but after playing for 50+ hours I don't anymore.

Eh, I almost never buy games full price, so if I do happen to not like a game (which rarely seems to happen lately), I don't feel that regretful since I didn't shell out 60 bucks.

I do regret paying 30 dollars for Valkyria Chronicles, but that was like 3 years ago. Still hate the game.

Tales from Space about a blob

Retro City rampage

Sound shapes.

I wanted to hit 100$ on psn and fell for the hype those games got on places like gaf.

Too bad I can't sell them on craigslist like a physical release.

Diablo 3, honestly think it was worse than torchlight ONE in almost every way possible. What a boring sterile game.

WWE All Stars 3DS. I was kinda hoping for a good portable wrestling game, but I just couldn't get into this inferior port.

Other than that I can't really say I regret anyting I've purchased as of late.

Lost Winds on iOS controls like dogshit, but that was free.

Dishonored. After it was announced and I read the GI cover story, I had zero interest. I completely ignored it up until a few days before it came out. Then I let myself get swept up in other people's hype, looked at some game play vids, thought "Eh, this looks like it might be pretty good." Bought it, played it for about three days... meh. I dunno, I just find it to be extremely dull and bland in general. The only thing about it that made any sort of impression on me is that all of the voice actors sound like they're on Prozac.

I think I kinda regret getting BL2 this early. Played the 1st when I was in a gaming drought and the GoTY had released. Part 2 just gets tiresome in long sessions especially since majority of my friends aren't playing. May trade it now while I can still get close to $40 then re-buy it when a GoTY edition is announced.

I haven't done to bad this year. Last year I was crushed after buying LA Noire.. was the biggest waste of 60 dollars ever.

This year however.. nothing to complain about.

ITT: I find out there is a huge backlash against Guild Wars 2. I guess that's to be expected considering some here were hyping it as the second coming of christ.

As for my game... Diablo 3 Collector's Edition. I always buy the CEs for Blizzard games but that is the last time I'll ever be doing that. That game is barely worth $20.

This very, very, very, very, very rarely happens to me. I don't get hyped about that many games, and the ones I do go all-in for, I have a fantastic track record of loving (I seem to be able to sense when I'll love a game pretty accurately, then find its critical reception to be a pleasant surprise).

*sigh* Diablo 3.

Next Tuesday. I'll probably buy black ops 2 as well because I'm a clown.

Torchlight 2 was a bunch of over hyped shite too. Almost as dull as Diablo 3.

Did you not like TL2 and D3 because you don't like ARPGs or because you do and were just disappointed by the games?

SFxTekken: I was so hyped for this game and I just hate the way it plays. Played it for a few days and haven't gone back.

NSMB2: Picked this up with best buy gift card money I had laying around, flew through the game and beat Bowser on the first day. Got the 2 optional worlds and found everything in the first 3 worlds, at which point I realized that I was having zero fun. Traded it in along with SM3DL and my 3DS to put towards a WiiU.

Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit. The game is exactly what I expected; the problem is that I preordered through Steam and got a bunch of Genesis platformers because I forgot about GMG and their constant 20-25% off codes. I'd rather have the extra $3.75 than some mostly-average roms, especially since I already had copies of the Wonder Boy and Treasure-developed games from the Sega Ages 2500 compilations.

It's a pretty small regret.
