• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

What games are you currently playing?

Animal Crossing DS, GTA LCS, and Vampires the Masquerade Bloodlines. I've had Bloodlines for a while, but haven't really played it due to the fact it ran like absolute crap on my old computer (and hated it as a result), but I'm digging it now. Stuttering in the game still rears it's ugly head once in a while (damn source engine). I thought that problem was solved on my computer due to HL2 not stuttering (much less memory intensive), but it's obvious this engine does not handle running out of memory well at all.

The platforming, exploration, camera, controls, combat, and puzzles in Kameo are all incredibly subpar.

Subpar compared to what? Its sure as hell more fun than any of the Ratchet and Clank games, or Jak and Dexter. The Kameo hate is still totally confusing. I think some people went in looking for flaws that arent really there.

The flaws to some may be it's made by rare and/or it's on the xbox 360. Not that I can say anything either way, since I don't own it :D

Perhaps, but not me. I bought an X360 and ONLY PDZ and Kameo thinking/hoping/wishing that it represented a return of Rare's fantastic form from the mid-late N64 era. I was wrong.

Platforming - not much of it, and pales in comparison to Super Mario Sunshine, the Rayman games, etc.

Exploration - Crap compared to Zelda, Mario, and plenty of other 3rd person action games. Weak, mostly linear locations, characters that move too slow don't help. Very little reward to the exploration. Oh look, another box with coins in it. Another elemental fruit. (I maxed out my coins with 999 about 8 game-hours ago, and wound up finding WAY more fruit than I ever needed to max out all of my guys, before I even had 'em).

Camera - Fine while moving (if a bit too zoomed in by default), but it totally breaks down in combat, particularly when there are multiple targets and/or closed quarters and/or you're using a character that auto locks onto enemies, such as Pummel Weed.

Controls - Most characters move too slow, and none are particularly responsive. Some characters, such as Kameo, are way too floaty as well. In general a very poor and unsatisfying sense of physics. Whoever had the bright idea of mapping the primary combat actions to various combinations of shoulder trigger pulls and holds should be shot. Repeatedly. It's slow, clunky, unresponsive, and needlessly contrived. There's some satisfaction to be had with these controls when using Pummel Weed's boxing skills, but the controls are crap for most other characters. Face buttons used to switch skins? What a fucking waste.

Puzzles - Almost none to speak of. Though there's just enough there to tease and taunt you into wanting more. Hell, less even than Starfox Adventures, and that game SUCKED too.

IMHO, of course.

Okay, I'm going to see if I can crack my collector nut.

The game that started the whole buy/sell/trade/profit bullshit for me was Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. At the time, all I kept hearing on GAF was all kinds of gushing over this game as GOTY, best RPG of all time, can't miss experience, and how impossible it was to find. At the time I had no interest in that type of game because I thought it was just quirky and Japanese, but I took all the fanboy love to heart and when I stopped into a Gamecrazy for the first time and saw a copy of the game just standing there on the shelf - this was in mid-2005, before the reprint - I decided to buy it and resell it at a profit. It was $50, and it fetched me $80.

When I finally got my own copy (reprint, sans soundtrack), I played it for about 4 hours - completely blown away, but I got stuck. Months have passed and I haven't played it. So I went down to Fry's today and bought a SMT: Nocturne guide. I've been eyeing it for a long time, but it was bent out of shape, so nobody wanted to buy it.

Now I erase my old save file and start over again - on Hard.

And by God, I want to finish this sucker.

After putting in 20+ hours into KOTOR 2, I started playing DQ8. Both are excellent games but DQ8 just hits that sweet spot. Pure old school RPG goodness with a dash of that "it" factor to keep you hooked.

*FINALLY* got Front Mission 3 so I'm playing through that

Playing Nethack on the regular...getting better at the game...I'm like...still seriously assy though...MONK

Playing a Battle Axe weilding healer in Daggerfall that's critical weak to a shitload of stuff. Challenging doesn't begin to describe it...holy shit this game can be unforgiving (and glitchy)

I've got Guitar Hero, Dragon Quest VIII, and Kingdom Hearts on the menu. I've had KH since it came out, but I never got around to finishing it. Trying to finish it now before moving on to KH2.

2nd Kameo Run-through <3 <3 <3
PD0 Dark Ops
PGR3
Starting King Kong & Condemned

Still loving
Lumines
GTA:LCS
PoP:TTT
DOA:Ultimate (practicing for DOA4)

Nothin but 360:

PGR3
Madden
Call of Duty 2
A little but of PDZ
NBA2k6

I'm picking up DOA4 whenever it comes out, and that will be it until Feb. when Full Auto comes out.

Animal Crossing:WW,
Shadow of the Colossus (much easier than I'd hoped)
Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (I don't think it ever ends)
Mario Kart DS
and Ouendan.

Getting Meteos tomorrow.

still rr6, though not very much of it. it's a great game, but perhaps there's just too much of it...i've played 20+ hours and i'm still only 70% finished. i've been away from cod2 for too long to go back, and pd zero pretty much sucks. i need a new 360 game; doa4 comes just in time.

it's also high time i upgraded my psp firmware and played all the games i've been missing out on...virtua tennis, gta, kingdom of paradise, exit, irregular hunter x...

Currently playing:

Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

Animal Crossing: Wild World

and I just finished:

Sonic Rush

I'm loving/have loved all three games, and between these games, a few sitting there waiting to be opened, and the three imports I'm hoping will arrive tomorrow (Ouendan, JSS, Slime Mori Mori 2), I don't think I'll be putting my DS down for a while.

:lol :lol

If they had the EXACT number of fruit for upgrades, you would be bitching about the last missing fruit.

Little reward? I disagree. If you want to even attempt the hiscore levels you need to explore to find the 3 eyes.

Useless char? Again, wait till you try hiscore and learn how to combo propely.

For all the slack this game gets it is still deeper, more polished, and more rewarding that GAF's jewel platformer Beyond Good and Evil.

Totally. I bought a DS just so I can play it's games and then bash 'em. You're so unbelievably intelligent I don't see why you don't randomly kill people for wasting oxygen that would be so much better spent on yourself.

How do you sleep at night being aware of this?

GAF's jewel? What forum are you on

Finally got a GBA SP for X-mas. Playing this for now:

Of the 3, I'm about done with Zero Mission (the "twist", even though I knew it, still blew me away). I have Sigma Star Saga and Aria Of Sorrow waiting in the wings as well.

On my Cube, this is getting major run:

I'm LOVING this game right now--just got the light beam and all 3 Dark Temple keys. Awesomely creepy atmosphere. I look at it like a "sidequest" Metroid story--not as epic as original Prime and not really focusing on Metroids in general (so far anyway).

Oh yeah, also got the slimfit PS2 about a week ago and picked up these 2:

Just dabbling so far, nothing serious, but DDS2 is really calling me. Probably after Prime 2 I'll tackle it for real.

Xbox, only 1 thing, and I feel bad for getting a little bored, but the Water Hazard stage is just dragging on and on:

box_art-563.jpg

And of course, the quick hits:

SNES
Wild Guns
Sunset Riders
R-Type 3
Sparkster
Saturn
Metal Slug
Layer Section
Radiant Silvergun
Battle Garrega demo (wish the full game wasn't so damn overpriced)

I'm at work doing jack shit and playing my PSP.

World Series Poker 2

and NBA Live 06....which incidentally, is great on PSP. I've been totally dissapointed by basketball games on console this year, but somehow the transition to PSP ended up with a much better playing game. This is the best EA sports game I've tried on handheld (and I've tried a few).

Its been all Dragon Quest VIII for me lately, but I got GUN and the new PoP for Christmas so ill probably pop those in the old xbox the next few days.

Continuing my assault on a truly brutal game:

When I get fed up with that and want to just stat-grind:

Just a few minutes to make sure the disc worked (it does, and it looks very promising):

More arcade gaming for me.

Played more Hokuto No Ken (so damn awesome!!), The King of Fighters XI, and Samurai Spirits Tenka.

Didn't play it, but watched Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection for a while. The new backgrounds look very nice. No one was using the two new characters; do they suck?

Actually, I'd prefer if they had LESS fruit, and thus the upgrades (and the need for them) were spaced out better. This is just poor balance.

3 eyes? You mean the Crystal Eyes? I thought there were 4. I've got 'em. Wow, really tough to find/get.

I didn't say that characters were useless. However, now that you mention it, there are too many. There should have been one char per element, instead of 2. Consolidate/combine the 2 chars per element into one uber char, that upgrades more gradually throughout the course of the game. Much more fun, and potential for better balance.

As for the high score mode. Fuck that. With underlying gameplay so flawed and inherently unfun, it's highly unlikely that I'll bother to continue playing once I'm done with the story mode (currently at Thorn's Pass).

Tales of the Abyss
Katamari PSP
Slime Mori Mori DS
Hoping to get all three done before Front Mission 5 comes out later this week.

Mario & Luigi 2 is on eternal hold until I'm really bored ^^;

Oh, and still playing Soul Calibur 3 every time by buddy comes over. He has like a ton of custom characters and loves the game to death because of its character creation. Meh, I prefer normal characters with larger move lists. Need DoA4 to come out so we can move over. I'm starting to get a bit tired of the game.

PS2:
Haunting Ground - Been a while since I've played survival horror so this game is great
Ateiler Iris: Eternal Mana
Soulcalibur III
Mushihimesama

Arcade:
KOFXI - This game just rox... The new gameplay features & characters rules
Neo Geo Battle Coliseum - Gonna get the PS2 port next month ^_^

Animal Crossing: Wild World
Final Fantasy IV Advance
Feel the Magic (LTTP)
Geometry Wars
Outpost Kaloki X
Need For Speed: Most Wanted
World of WarCraft (just a little bit)

mario kart and only mario kart. once I get a 2 star rank next to my online duder, I'm going to beat all the staff ghosts (beat about 70% at the moment) then I'm going to play online a shitload more.

After that, I'll beat some more war room maps in a wars, then eventually pick up sonic rush.
