I don't think things like cinematic scenes necessarily equate to maturity. I might be the minority, but I'm definitely not interested in making games like movies. I'm not saying a game can't have both nice gameplay and nice cutscenes, but cutscenes are definitely not a priority for me.
The way things are, though, it does seem like some companies are sacrificing level design for movie-like experiences. I'm pretty sure The Last of Us will be a fantastic game, and there's no doubt that there are a lot of resources being put into making each character organic. I know it provides immersion for many people, but it's just not for me.
I'm just worried that more and more focus will be put in these sequences. We've seen the emergence of quicktime events, and I'm assuming these became popular because they made the gameplay seem more cinematic.
