What Ninja Turtles game was your personal favorite?

On TMNT (Arcade):

I think people are just nostalgia-bombing this game. As a brawler, it was awful: The mechanics weren't remotely balanced or rewarding. Bosses were absurdly overpowered. Obstacles that were placed in ridiculous locations just to suck quarters. Weird animations in combat.

Yeah, both TMNT arcade games are just quarter munchers to be quite honest. The SNES Turtles in Time is better balanced.

Turtles in time snes. Makes the arcade version look like garbage, offers more content and better graphics and gameplay. The music is awesome, the stages are varied and fun. The turtles actually yell cowabunga with full voice. It hits a peak in quality no other cartoon to video game adaption has seen before, up to and including this generation.

A masterpiece in beat-em-ups. The only downsides I can give it is repetitive combat and you can finish the game in like an hour or less. lol

The original arcade release of course. I also like the PS2 games based off the 2003 TV show, even if they weren't all that great.

Replayed turtles in time yesterday because of this thread. Still is the king of brawlers for me In terms of accessibility, graphics that oozes character and above all: sheer fun.
Let's be honest here: after all those years still nothing beats throwing foot soldiers at your screen. :)

Hyperstone heist. My first console was a sega genisis. And hyperstone heist was one of my first games. I put countless hours into that game but I never beat it. I usually only made it to the boss rush area in the caves. I might have made it past that once or twice. But I never made it to shredder. All of those boss fights are carved into memory though because Ihad to have fought them close to a hundred times each.

I think I did pretty good though. Ididn't even know the settings could be changed and usually played by myself. So I only ever had like two or three lives.

For me it was TMNTIV for the SNES. I LOVED TMNTII for the NES, but really, IV was when it looked like the cartoon and sounded like something you'd only hear in the arcade. The colors and sound were so awesome. It just stood out among the crowd.

Turtles in Time Re-Shelled SNES

Used to play that game every afternoon after school with my brother, good times. He always used to grab my controller away from me to do the extra continues trick whenever he died, heh.

...re-shelled however, ended up being the worst $10 I've ever spent. played through it once, and never went back to it. the less said about that game the better.

It's impossible to re-download it from the marketplace, so it will continue to sit on my hard drive, unloved.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pinball machine is a personal favourite of mine, and it was funny that most of these units have toys from the action figurine line, most of which we're unaltered.

TMNT4: Turtles in Time, on the SNES. I didn't like the arcade version as much. No throws, less bass heavy music, weird walking animations for the foot-clan soldiers, and it was missing the Technodrome. No, more sprites, more colors, and better animations, and technically better sound doesn't make a good game. Content and gameplay does though :)

And I'll defend that playing an awesome quarter-muncher isn't a BAD thing, at all. But it took some of the fun away for me...

This one gets it. :)

Haha, good call. I have a local friend who has one of those, amongst our arcade/pin collectors.

Dat April playfield art... *shudders*

Besides the obvious TMNT SNES and TMNT NES, TMNT Fall of the Foot Clan on GB is a great little game. My brother and I had some good moments there.

Turtles In Time is my favorite, Fall of the Foot Clan is a pretty close second.

I used to be able to beat FFC without getting hit. I thought the short TMNT clips were great for a Game Boy game, whether it was the intro or the first time you enter the Technodrome.

Fall of the Foot Clan was my first GB game and while I liked it, I thought it was sort of too easy, short and ultimately boring. I liked Back from the Sewers better.

Technodrome theme from Arcade Game is still fairly great:

Technodrome

I must have used up all my videogame skills on the original NES TMNT game. I could routinely get to the 4th level, not losing a single turtle until level 3. I got to the Technodrome on several occasions, but never actually beat the game.

Maybe it was because of the maps in Nintendo Power, but I never had any trouble with the seaweed stage. I'd occasionally slip up and lose a turtle in the weeds, but if I did I'd just reset and start again.

Such fond memories of that game, of course it's my favorite! My younger brother and I would imagine what the toys of the original figures would be like. He claimed to have seen the enemy that would split into multiple, smaller versions of himself when hit. I think he said his name was "Glebble" or something like that. Ah, but I'm getting nostalgic...

The original and best.

Turtles 2 and 3 for the Super NES were too repetitive. Jump kick. Jump Kick. Jump kick. Ad infinitum. The original required so much more strategy.

I never played the SuperNES and Genesis versions though, although I did play TMNT Tournament fighters. Was fun if a bit unbalanced. Really loved the TV commercial for it. I knew it by memory. Probably still do.

Was good seeing that first TMNT game for the Gameboy. Knew a guy who had it for his Gameboy as a kid. Was the only game he had too. For like 5 years or so, whenever I'd see him around and he'd have his GameBoy, the game he would have in the system was TMNT. lol.

I love that the box art for the first NES game is taken from the original comics, red bandanas and all. The Mirage comics art style is so much better than that of the cartoon, and I say that with a lot of nostalgia attached to the TV series.

I have the utmost respect for differences in opinions...but damn if I've ever heard anyone ever mention "great game", "Turtles" and anything OTHER than "Turtles in Time" in the same sentence.

Hate to say it, but that probably devalued the SNES game.

A fan got his favorite games signed by the creator of said franchise. If that was me, I could care less about how much it was "valued". To me, it would be priceless at that point.

Turtles in Time, mostly because I actually owned it and played it a bunch.

Turtles (NES)
Turtles 2 (NES)
Turtles 3 (NES)
Turtles the arcade game
Turtles Tournament Fighters (TURTLE COMBAT)
Turtles GBA (1st one)

Those are my favs.

I laughed hard at Hyperstone Heists awful sound and turned it off soon after.

Turtles in Time for sure.

Though the most nostalgia causing TMNT game is Fall of the Foot Clan on the Gameboy. Just thinking back makes me wanna crawl in my bed, grab my old GB and play it once again (if I'd only knew where my GB is).
1990 was just perfect in this regard. Since my parents decided to move to Germany, I learned about the Turtles three years after its first episode in the US but fell in love with it right away. The GB game came out in the same year so my hype was yet very huge and it became my first GB game, together with (the bundled) Tetris and The Amazing Spider-Man.
Anyone remembers that one? :D

Thanks for linking to my article! I spent over a year getting that thing done with all the interviews and whatnot so I am happy it got noticed here.

I always enjoyed TMNT 3 on the NES for the music, added special moves and more varied level designs and boss fights. But my all time favorite will always be the SNES version of Tournament Fighters, one of the finest fighters on the system. Such an amazingly polished and appealing game, and the best soundtrack of any TMNT game imo.

It's kinda hard for me to pick between the original arcade game, Manhattan Project, and the SNES Turtles in Time. All so fun, but I think I'm gonna go with Turtles in Time on this.

As far as I know, there weren't any plans for a 4th game. However, the interesting part?

I still want to know the name of this artist. All three of these box arts are clearly done by the same person. The art style and painting style all kinda match up. Whoever this person is, did a lot of work for Konami in the 90's. Most notably for the US SNES. Genesis and Game Boy box art. I always kinda liked his work.

The first arcade TMNT was the game I have the most memories and nostalgia of, even though Turtles in Time is the better game. I'll never forget when I went with my cousin to an arcade in Melbourne, FL and saw the game running for the first time, I was a big fan of the show at the time... but my jaw dropped when I saw the game and heard the speech samples.

I'd love to see a Platinum take on a 3d brawler with cel-shaded graphics based on the original TV show art style, one day.

Can't wait 'till you rip Out of the Shadows a new one in a future update. It's a pity, with the animation and comic sides shining at their brightest right now, that the gaming side had to be fed to the dogs Call of Duty Dog Activision, though surprising given the history that Nickelodeon clearly wasn't interested with gaming to a serious degree the moment they began by sending Ren & Stimpy over to the late THQ back in the 90's...

Yes! Me too! I'm a big fan of his/her work on Konami boxes such as Sunset Riders, Contra III, Rollergames and Super Castlevania. One day I hope we can finally solve this mystery that has been haunting me for years.

We need to know GAF!

I liked the Gameboy games too but preferred the sequel actually. I think this is the closest to the TMNT TV humour

Spiderman was also a nice game and the last stage with Venom is one of the most difficult platformers on the gameboy.

The NES version of Arcade was impressive considering the hardware but it was a far cry from the coin op ofcourse. The problem was the limited animation and thus lack of moves. No throws, no glide kicks etc. Every foot soldier had to be hit twice and would then die. This combined with more and far longer stages, and lack of 4p made it a boring affair. But it was the best you could get back then and loved it despite all this.

It could've been moved to the SNES perhaps but the game came out at the height of the TMNT craze and was a smash hit anyway.

The NES exclusive stages were very good though and Tora and Shogun were nice bosses too. Too bad they didnt appear on any TV episode either

The original and best.

this game was fucking hard. i eventually came to love it, by my god was it incredibly unbalanced.

for me the biggest gripe i have with it, is that the majority of the enemies you face throughout the game aren't even TMNT characters/designs.

they were completely invented by konami for the sole purpose of this title, and as someone who originally purchased this games because of the TMNT licence, it was a ridiculous disappointment that instead of fighting wave after wave of foot clan, mousers, and other robots & mutants, we instead got weird-ass 'aliens' inspired creatures, mud monsters, and fire elementals…. wtf.

but i did enjoy it. if you could master the water levels in this game, you had mad-gamer-skills.

Are there going to be more TMNT games? The recent ones were so half assed, though that was expected when Activision won the licensed for TMNT games. -_-
