What realistically can Nintendo offer at this E3?

Are they going to do a press conference this year?

I mean, that might be a good start. But before that, they need to get some announcements. Sign some games.

WiiU

Bayonetta 2
X
Smash Bros
Zelda reveal

3DS

Who knows? I bet the 3DS will have a better year than some cynics have predicted though.

Nintendo fan mode:

A new true Super Mario Galaxy sequel
Next gen Zelda playable unveil
Retro Metroid IV
Wii U redesign
New Miyamoto / Tokyo IP killer app for game pad
QoL sneak peek

.
.
.

While really what they will have is

Mario Kart 8
Yarn Yoshi
Super Smash Bros
Zelda teaser
Wii U pricedrop

Nintendo E3 confrence (if they have one);

New Smash trailer and exclusive sku bundles.

Zelda MM for 3DS

Something Mario for 3DS.

Warner Brothers on stage for some games

Something fit related for Wii U.

Wii U price drop

Miyamoto announces Zelda and Hyrule is shown off.

Iwata ends the show mentioning Metroid for WiiU.

Doens't nintendo have that own video fan service thingy that probably nobody watches and has to replace E3 for it?

They did that last year from what i can recall.

Otherwise.

I would like to see a zelda not release at the end of the console cicle.

Smash Bros Release Date
Smt x FE trailer with a release window
X trailer with release date

Those are my guesses.

Add Zelda to that list and we pretty much think the same.

What I would LIKE to see, is Nintendo actually have their own conference. Not Nintendo Direct style but go in there, announce that someone is working on Mother 4 for the Wii U or bring back some older IP's like Starfox or make some crazy third party deal with Square to bring Chrono back to Nintendo. That or have some other cool ideas in place to keep content going on the Wii U. It will never happen but it's just something I'd like to see.

Given that the QOL platform is supposed to be revealed this year and released in 2015, I'd be very surprised if it wasn't a big focus for E3. I'm not particularly optimistic about WiiU announcements, X ,Smash, and Bayo will be there and maybe they will show Zelda. Not sure what else they could have atm outside of FExSMT and Yarn Yoshi which have been MIA for some time now. I hope they announce a localized of DQVII, that would be nice.

The most likely scenario is that the QoL shit will be full force given the type of show that E3 is and most stuff will be shunted for announcement at other times.

New Wii U sku (Perhaps that gamepadless model or a cheaper version)
Zelda U
NFC games they talked about in January
Smash Bros trailer + character reveal
Bayonetta 2 trailer
X trailer + release date
SMT x FE trailer
Hint at Retro's project
Lemme have this

While really what they will have is

Mario Kart 8
Yarn Yoshi
Super Smash Bros
Zelda teaser
Wii U pricedrop

Coming out before E3

They need to announce a substantial price drop down to $250 or below.

Would love to see them bring back 1080 Snowboarding, Wave Runner, Pilot Wings, F-Zero, Starfox and some other classics.

I'm so tired of all the new AAA games on XO/PS4 focused on killing and photorealism. I'm so eager to enjoy games that look friendly and lively and are about snowboarding, or racing over waves on tropical island, or flying planes through castles or whatever. Enough of the dull brown-greys and killing.

Zelda and X will be there, and we'll likely see Retro's next project as well as the new idea Miyamoto has hinted it.

My left-field prediction is a Wii U hardware revision.

I have a feeling they're gonna pull another 2013 January Direct where they show a couple stuff way too early out of desperation (like the game Retro is supposedly developing).

Hardware
Wii U bleeding out, but it's absolutely far to early to expect any replacement or official phasing out. Might hear about a bundle or two, but no sign of a shift in strategy beyond running down the clock.
- Most likely a bundle. No way they're announcing a new console now. The only way for them to really turn my head at this point is to have some sort of Oculus device.

3DS tepid at best. No sign of any mooted successor in anything Iwata's said lately, and the revision that the 2DS brought about didn't have the desired effect.
QOL platform probably receiving most internal attention, but fundamentally unsuited to the event.
- I doubt they'll announce anything now as the 3DS is now in full stride. I hope it won't be a long time til the next portable, but with the way things are going, I wonder what the landscape will look like.

Newly Announced Software
Many of Nintendo's top teams and creatives- EAD Tokyo, Retro, Sakurai- have either just put out titles or are in the final stages of development. New reveals from any of these guys are unlikely.
- That's all they have at this point. Nintendo has awesome software, but there's gotta be more as in third party more. The desperation here when a new character is announced for Smash Bros is insane.

Much of the software that should have been revealed at this E3 have already been revealed far, far in advance. Last January's Direct was one hell of a double-edged sword- Nintendo held themselves back enough to reveal Smash, 3D World and Kart at E3, but they've totally spunked their load on reveals for this year- the likes of X, Yarn Yoshi and SMT x Fire Emblem had absolutely no good reason to be revealed so long in advance, and anticipation for some of this stuff has fizzled as a result (admit it, you forgot about Yarn Yoshi, didn't you?)
- Besides X, (I'm not a Smash fan) there's not much else for me personally that I'm excited about. I'm sure there will be a Zelda though (I hope)

Nintendo throwing every franchise they have at the 3DS and, to a lesser extent, the Wii U, has left them desperately short of stuff to show now. With Mario (both 2D and 3D), Mario Kart, Pokémon, Animal Crossing, etc. all having been pulled from the drawer, and stuff like Metroid, Star Fox and F-Zero clearly having been deemed to be too niche to be worth the investment of a modern budget, what exactly have they got left to pull from the drawer?
- At the rate they're going with the lack of 3rd party support, this may be more of a Nintendo console than previous gens.

QOL concerns again: there's going to be some manner of software developed for whatever this platform actually is, and that's going to be drawing manpower away to stuff that, again, is not going to be suitable for an E3 presentation.
- I agree.

Actual Presentation?
Yes, yes, I know Nintendo didn't actually skip E3 last year. However, that really isn't the point. The PERCEPTION was that Nintendo skipped E3 last year, and E3 is all about perception. They need to absolutely come out swinging for the fences this time out.
- I don't think they'll be at E3. Probably another Nintendo Direct again, and it'll likely just be new software.

However... can they really? I think that, in terms of actual content, this year's E3 is going to be less big for Nintendo that last year's. No new iterations in the megasellers, with the exciting revealed stuff already having been shown off last year. If they considered it worth their while to turn an E3 Presentation showing off Mario, Kart, Smash and Pokémon into a Direct, can they really go back to a stage show where Zelda's the only reasonably big card that they're likely to be able to play?
- I have no idea what is going on at Nintendo, and I wonder if they can right the ship. You can never count them out because the software props them up, but I don't get a sense of any plan besides "Nintendo games are great. You can only play Nintendo games on Nintendo consoles. We'll be announcing something shortly. SECRET CHARACTER REVEAL"

I reckon we will get 2-3 new wii u games (small to mid franchises) same with 3ds. That mixed with stuff already shown but still to be released. and to finish it off Zelda U.

maybe one n64 game re-make (think OOT) for 3ds and one gamecube remake (think WWHD) for wii u.

Going by Iwata's most recent comments, I would expect a focus on the NFC capabilities of the Wii U with a couple of titles to showcase: one from Nintendo themselves and the other perhaps a collaboration with Lego or Hasbro (Transformers?).

I never thought about this. A Transformers NFC game could be a good money maker. Sell different size Transformers (Voyager, Leader, Deluxe class) with chips in them. Have a starter pack with Optimus and Megatron, or split it into faction starter packs for the Autobots and Decepticons. Even sell combiner packs for big robots like Bruticus and Superion.

In terms of new stuff, they've had teams working for a while on secret projects which may see an E3 reveal, and I wouldn't be surprised if they slapped together teasers for recently-started projects -Retro's new game for example- to generate badly-needed interest.

Iwata says it only takes one game to turn this thing around yet he refuses to let that game happen.

Pokemon MMORPG

It's time, Iwata.

What? The 3DS' only 3 years old.

There is precedent. The DS was released 4 years after the GBA.

Show the new handheld at E3, call it a third pillar or whatever, and release early 2015. The 3DS is already slowing down in sales, and the Wii U is the Titanic. They need to get an exciting platform on the market, pronto.

Most of my guesses would be more of the same. Nobody expected something like hyrule warriors a couple of months ago. I think we are going to see more things like this.

From nintendo part i think the only news will be that NFC game and thats about it.

Nintendo fan mode:

A new true Super Mario Galaxy sequel
Another super Mario Galaxy game would be underwhelming for me. It would be the same crap nintendo has been doing - "let's not make a true new Anything game." Rehash rehash rehash. Nintendo fell on its face the moment the wii u released without something new and exciting. People like me are still waiting for an answer or reason to buy one.

I'm a new 3ds owner so i'd be interested in 3ds games. Or new announcements to those. I have no intention in buying a Wii U though so anything about that wouldn't interest me.

I'm going to be optimistic and say we'll see Majora's Mask 3D, Zelda Wii U, a new Metroid game for 3DS and a new Star Fox for Wii U. Plus a bunch of QoL stuff, and info on games like Smash, X, and re-announcements of Yarn Yoshi and SMTxFE.

At E3 2015 I think we'll get a closer look at their plans for the future with both a Wii U and a 3DS successor announced, and a look at QoL expansion. Just general expansion of the company itself as well.

Zelda U
Bayonetta in Smash
Multiplayer mode in X (completely optional)
Super Mario Sunshine HD

I think the April Direct will cover big 3DS announcements.

Wii U:
-NFC games
-Zelda trailer
-Tons of information about X and a release date
-New Bayonetta 2 trailer
-Smash trailer with multiple newcomers and a release date(counts for both Wii U and 3DS obviously)
-New update announcement
-Launch list of GBA and DS VC games
-Indie titles
-Possibly info about Yarn Yoshi and SMTxFE
-Release dates for Sonic Boom and Hyrule Warriors

3DS:
-Sequel to early 3DS title
-More eshop titles
-3rd party games being published by Nintendo in the west
-Release date for PLvsAA
-New update announcement
-3rd party games like the new Harvest Moon and Atlus titles
-One or two first party holiday titles to go with Smash

Pretty much this with the addition of lots of please understand, maybe a MK8 DLC announcement, more HD GC remakes and more unlikely, a pokken fighters reveal. They'll play it safe this year like most previous E3's. Not to say it wouldn't be a good lineup, but it's unsurprising and underwhelming given their current situation.

Realistically they will most likely stick to their already announced game with a new Zelda teaser etc...

If they really wanted to wow people.... Unified account, Dragon Quest for 3DS, Star fox/F Zero Wii U and a 2.5 metroid

Depressing that "new IP" is nowhere on anyone's list of requests :(

Zelda and Metroid, here we go again...

Introducing a new IP at this stage is akin to releasing Wii Sports on Gamecube i.e. litte to no effect.

Also, what did you think of Super Mario Galaxy? Its game design is original, so what if they are using Mario skins?

I agree that Nintendo needs games that surprises us, but they can go ahead and slap Mario and Kirby on top of original experiences, doesn't bother me.

SMT x FE. Screenshots and / or trailers will increase hardware purchases. A few purchases, but the ones they need from the hardcore crowd.
