What's the best game that can't be played on PC?

Ninja Gaiden Black for the original xbox

This thread was an interesting read, then that imthemaid person decided to take a massive dump all over it.

Anyway, gonna go with Dark Souls or the console version of KOF XIII. At least for the latter until the arcade gets an update eventually and that gets leaked too.

Nestopia has audio lag, guys. I love it and use it often, but there's no sense in trying to claim that it doesn't.

Anyway, I like this thread, and I like the inclusion of emulation. It's necessary for an honest answer to the question.

And it's a very tough question. I'll have to think about it, though my gut says that iconoclast might be right with the modern Ninja Gaiden games.

There's someone that's working on a PS3 emulator.
http://code.google.com/p/rpcs3/

Of course it doesn't do anything and probably won't do anything for at least 5 years before dying and other PS3 projects being started but at least its a start.

Anyway I kind of assume that people that have PCs capable of playing the latest games probably own all of the consoles.

Good god guys. Ignore the troll.

Anyway, I was going to say SMG2 after looking at the thread title but reading the rules and remembering I did play through a bit of it (and 1) on my PC I think I'll have to go with the Souls games.
Dark Souls in particular. Such a great game with lots of depth. Only thing that lets it down in any way is the frame rate in some places which would be fixed if it was on PC.

NEStopia is known to have problems with vsync, but not the sound emulation itself.

Also worth noting: Taito Type-X games can mostly run on PC with cracks. So can many Konami arcade music games.

I wonder, though: does Lindbergh count? It's PC hardware, but it uses a pretty specific Linux-based operating system. Not conveniently playable on a PC, but maybe playable on certain PCs.

The Souls games seem like a natural fit for PC, too, which is what's frustrating.

I want Dark Souls so badly. Gears 3 tempts me, as I'm a fan of that series, but I could just as happily rent it, play through it in co-op with a friend, and return it. Dark Souls is really testing my resolve to not drop cash on a console just to play it.

Unless you have 5 kids to feed, just do it. If money is tight, you can get a factory refurb'd PS3 Slim for $199. Then play Demon's/Dark Souls for a few months and resell the console and you won't lose more than $50.

The emulation is very accurate, yeah, but the emulator uses a sound buffer. Delayed by design. I'm not sure exactly what the lowest setting is in Nestopia, but many emulators don't go much lower than 32ms/2 frames when it comes to audio buffer size.

Speaking of emulation, any guesses on when and what setup we'll need to smoothly emulate 360 and PS3 games at 30+ fps? How many years? what specs? I figure 4 years and like a 16-core CPU

I understand that there's no point playing the games of a troll who lacks the sophistication to even fly under the radar for more than half a page, you just add them to your ignore list and nothing of value is lost.

There's a project that aims to allow for recompiling Xbox games to be native Windows games. It apparently works great already for a select few games, but it's still in serious development. Apparently, it's not an easy task.

Looking forward to the eventual 1080p Phantom Dust. Some day!

any Uncharted
any Mario
any Zelda
any Metroid
any Gran Turismo
any Forza
any God of War
most Halos
most Gears of war
Dark souls
Demon souls
ect...

This list would be way too long. I will buy the PC of any multiplatform game any day of the week but that does make the many great console exclusive games null and void.
For me, it's only the shooter games that I really want to play on the PC. I'm all right with God of War and Zelda on consoles. I'm not all right with Uncharted and Red Dead Redemption on consoles.

That said, my vote would go to Red Dead Redemption. That game had HUGE moddability potential and huge potential to look way better on stronger hardware. I think it would have been much better on the PC.

Millions of levels, awesome community and always something new. The game that just keeps giving.

Little big planet (2) beyond a shadow of a doubt. The online component is the biggest part of the game also, so even if you could eventually emulate it, you're still not going to be playing the real game. It is also unique compared to anything on PC. Halo reach, Gears of War, Demons' Souls, etc may be console exclusive, but their genres all exist and are pretty healthy on PC.

Yeh, but this is about not playable on PC.
yeah, some of them can be emulated. Not sure if they can be emulated well, but i'm sure some are.

Still, even if you just count this gen...
Granted, some amazing games are also exclusive on PC.

Oh I just remembered. Xbox's Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge. I really loved this game, and since then there haven't been many games on the PC that was of that arcade flying action genre. There was a 2000 Crimson Skies game on the PC that I haven't played though.

The Crimson Skies franchise is a franchise I would have liked if it had continued since then.

You might want to give Blazing Angels a try for your fix. WWII arcade dog-fighting and strafing, not a bad game at all.

Not exactly popular choices but:

Shadows of the Damned
Enslaved
And I think I'd like to play Child of Eden with a mouse.

Oh, and a load of XBLA/PSN titles too. Hopefully Windows 8 will sort this out.

Oh, Enslaved was the one I was thinking about! Then again, who knows how badly Ninja Theory would fuck up the PC version. They hardly seem like optimisation wizards.
