What's up with all the FFXV hate?

Enjoyed Duscae demo. Enjoyed Platinum Demo. Only been watching the Uncovered Trailer over and over because it's amazing and spoiler safe. Waiting eagerly for my Deluxe Edition. Hype and excitement is real for me. Really eager to see the story and just have fun.

Very reductive bordering on misquote.
If anyone is even interested in the full context https://youtu.be/KftPFPcu_K0?t=2h15m40s
Already linked to the right time. It's very reasonable.

Everything is reductive in quote form. They are reasonable, but even they are very conflicted and worried here. "I don't know if i've ever walked away more disappointed from a demo - it was heartbreak" - Ben Moore.

Now i'm not saying XV will be shit and neither is he, but people should be worried.

This thread made me worry. I did not watch the player demo, is it that bad?

I like most of the trailers...

I'll try not to spoil it, but its a boss fight where your not supposed to actually kill the boss, you have to wait and stall until something happens. While your stalling its basically just QTEs and dodging. Now you can attack the boss during this time, but it doesn't seem to have any effect.

Some people really don't feel the need to give this series the benefit of the doubt anymore. Why should they? It's been ass for years. If my interest out of 10 starts at 0 and yours at 9 we're going to view things a little differently.

Tetsuya Nomura literally said the PS3 could not keep up when the car was driving in the open world, which sounds kind of unreal. It points out SE's incompetence in that department, but the leap to PS4 definitely allowed the vision to come to fruition.

I don't think it had anything to do with incompetence. It was Square-Enix's first true attempt at making an large open world game when most of their experience with previous FF games were mainly semi-closed and heavily curated environments with a locked camera present. With the exception of the world maps which were not as detailed as the individual single environments.

The biggest issue was that the PS3 wasn't the easiest piece of hardware to work on.

Performance on most open world games on the PS3, notably Just Cause 2, GTA4 and 5, was inconsistent even at the best of times, and that was from companies that had experience with an open world game development for quite some time.

Versus to FFXV was S-E's first in terms of in-house development, so it seems to be a case of simply being unprepared on top of a difficult hardware to work with and equally difficult engine.

All in all not a favorable combination. The shift to PS4 was probably the best thing to happen.

Believe!

All I can say is OP enjoy the game when it comes out and worry less about what others think. There's always going to be outside noise ( reviews, the metacritic, OG fans, performance snobs, etc ) you're going to be the judge at the end of the day. I mean people loved mgsv while there's a loud crowd that actively shits on it. Once, I'll beat the game ill give my honest take but until then Idc for the collective hype or the collective pessimism.

I'm invested and they got my money day 0 regardless, FF is in a spot where there's never going to be general consensus on each entry.

I've notice hype decline on Gaf after the january base footage but as soon as Square Enix released the WIP platinum demo it was over lol.

As for myself that titan demo hit me like a ton of bricks and the trailer where noctis is falling was so dumb I downgraded my pre-order from deluxe on Amazon prime.

The trailers they are releasing still look like teaser trailers. This was E3. The game is out in three months. They released a trailer with a bunch of random gameplay and a few very brief clips of scenes.

At this point you might expect trailers to start to tell a story. If you want to be surprised by everything that happens, you might avoid trailers right around now for fear that all the scenes in the game would be shown. But ... it still looks like it's a year or two away, at least to me.

What am I meant to be excited about?

It's not just you.

While Nintendo is over there serving an entire slice of Zelda for the GP to consume, SE is over here feeding people a QTE-infested boss fight. If I didn't know any better I would think Zelda is closer to release than FFXV.

Noctis... has spoken.

If it wasn't clear the implication was that it was reductive to the point that it is easily misinterpreted and thus not really reflect what they meant.
0 interest on starting any kind of discussion on the reductive nature of quotes or how that justifies a bad quote that does not provide substantial context.

Huh. Almost nothing new from the last time you linked me this thread. It'd be nice if there were more impressions to substantiate the positivity.

Well, I'm not linking you again this time. I wouldn't do that since I haven't bothered to look for newer previews specifically focusing on the opening two hours. Just wanted to show to another poster that while EZA's claims are valid, there's definitely more impressions about that same demo out there praising what the game is doing.

Oh yeah, there's Game Informer's stuff too with the pre-beta blowout where they played the same section.

Man, I never even thought of that. Yeah, I feel like I already know more about what's going on in Zelda than FFXV.

Seems more likely that a good game could have bad showings than a shitty game tricking us into thinking it is good. I am a little confused as to why people would forget about the hype-as-fuck base footage, world of wonder trailer, flying car trailer and all the other signals that this will be good just because of a (really) shitty Xbox showing.

Awww c'mon... don't you guys wanna meet Luna and Gentiana? See what happens to Noctis at the end? Kick some butt and teleport???

Cause the whole game is literally just you fighting titan.

It's easier to focus on the most critical and negative at times because it is what sticks out the most.

It's expected for companies to release a good product, so when good results are achieved it generally isn't paid much mind outside of the occasional hype and gushing,

I don't think it should be this way, but it is what it is.

Kinda hard to get excited about them when Square refuses to include them in trailers other than the usual 1 second scene of Luna. Heck, she wasn't even in the E3 trailer lol.

This game is gonna be awful.
Pretty much. The gameplay isn't like any other final fantasy and the story/characters look very uninteresting. I used to be a huge final fantasy fan but I'll pass on this. I'm glad 12 remake is coming out at least.

How do you know? The game isn't even out yet. Not like you've played the whole thing to already know it's gonna suck.

Based on what I've seen (and played) so far, it doesn't look like it's gonna turn out to be a good game. I'm a fan of FF who has seen the quality of the games go down over the years.

I hope I'm wrong and it'll be good, but let's be real here...

I remember seeing all those cool trailers, but then I remember actually playing the demo and feeling like I was controlling molasses. Maybe it'll turn out amazing, I hope it does, cause it does look rad.

I'm glad SE is being vague with Luna and Gentiana. It's much more appreciated than spoilery stuff....

It being here doesn't matter.

They don't deserve hype for just releasing something.

I'm against the game because what I've played sucks, I don't likeven changes from VS, and most importantly Tabatha doesn't deserve the hype he gets and I'd a far worse director then Nomura imo.

Maybe I'll eat crow when XV releases but until then I see no reason to be hype for XV.

Damn those story bits are quite worrying

I feel like it's really gonna be another MGSV. Hoping for the best.

The story will at least be better than MGSV the combat is where things get dicey for some, since that's one thing MGSV got right 110% . Personally I love it cause I know how it's meant to be played despite playing like a action hybrid which is a fair complaint.

The lack of story? Surprised they werent told about that, there is a prologue that Square is specifically keeping secret other than
there is some old school style unbeatable boss in it
. Game informer with their in depth hands on was not able to play it.

How is it hard to understand the negative reaction to this game? I say this as someone won over by the later presentations on the game later in the week.

I try so hard to #BELIEVE but my hype took a massive nosedive ever since I played Duscae, I chose to ignore it then because the game was still deep in development. But it's now looking inexcusably meh. I was so so so hyped for XV back when it was first revealed at E3 2013, back when it was still Nomura's game not this bastardized Tabata version, but the game just doesn't look interesting.

Why? I doubt it will be anything more than the usual nonsensical SE tripe.

To be fair cindi you are very critical and ruthless at times
I still like you XD

MGSV added nothing to the lore and the story was nonexistent and this is coming from a MGS fanboy. Having a better story than MGSV isn't rocket science. Not liking SE typical tropes is another conversation but MGSV story was trash but playing the game is damn fun.

Watch their impressions if you haven't yet. Context in which they say it is important, those few words quoted do not tell the whole story and give off the wrong impression and I say this as a skeptic.

Yeap. Was going to do so anyway. I've been busy this week so I haven't had the time to watch their E3 showfloor impressions.

Gameplay/story aspects aside, I would be a lot more enthusiastic about FFXV if the characters don't look like

FinalFantasyXVMale.jpg

This is what I envisioned characters in a Final Fantasy game should look like. Not the boyband in XV.

As others have said already, a big part of the skepticism comes from Square's recent Final Fantasy releases. The series needs to consistently put out good games for a bit before this type of stuff will go away.

Also the marketing team has been very hit or miss with the trailers and teasers they put out. That Titan demo had me very down on the game for example until I saw it played competently. Most people can't be assed to find a proper play through (which is understandable), so naturally they only have a negative view of the game. I think the next time they show the game off effectively, people will forget about the Titan demo just like they forgot about all of the good stuff from the Uncovered event.

For a slight change in subject

Something I find odd is the car keep alluding to as an Audi...yeah I see the resemblance to the R8 if it was a four seater.

Let's be serious folks. We all know the Regalia is clearly the Cadillac Ciel concept.

I mean look at the damn thing

I thought it strange that Square-Enix didn't do a marketing push with Cadillac and turn this concept into actual production. Not that I would be able to afford or buy such a car, but to see the thing on the road in real life. Just something cool to think about.

For me, my hype died when I first saw the combat system. I was hyped for a full on action RPG with Versus XIII, but what we've got just pales in comparison.

Watching the E3 trailers did nothing to alleviate this, especially the dodgy "survive until your mates get there" gameplay, which wasn't combat, but was janky as hell.

Absolutely nothing I've seen of it reaches my standard of "incredible" or even "great". Maybe I'll eventually play the game and love it, but it honestly looks pretty damn bad.

The boy band cast is also a huge turn-off, personally. I'm too old for that shit.

You prefer medieval FF aesthetics but we had a decade of getting used to them plus it's a modern take. I feel it's a case of you either liked them when revealed ages ago or put off at first sight.
