When does Trailer Park Boys get good?

Can it be also mentioned that The Trailer Park Boys is one of the most oddly progressive shows out there even if it stumbles here or there.

Yeah no one giving a hint of a fuck that lahey and randy are gay is a nice touch.

Yep. Not just Lahey and Randy but a few of the police officers and I think even Lucy and Sarah hinted that they were a thing for a while. Nobody bats an eye and it's never made the butt of some careless joke. There are obvious jokes at certain points in the series but they're always done tastefully.

Barb's gang as well.

I'd dare to say Jim Lahey's "I am the liquor" line and the entire scene around it may be one of the funniest things I have ever seen in a comedy ever. It does not work without context so I won't even bother posting a clip or gif but if anyone's watched the show and gotten to that point they know exactly what the fuck I'm talking about and why you're on the floor laughing once you hear it.

A gif of this scene on Tumblr is what got me watching the show.

I like TPB far better than IAS, but I grew up with friends in a trailer park haha. The series falls off after season 3 or so imo. The humor is not for everyone. But my god that show is fucking great to me haha.

Ive probably viewed the entire season 1-7 run at least 6 times. It's my favorite comedy series, more than Sunny, Curb, and Parks and Rec. It's been several years since I first watched the show, but seem to recall some difficulty getting into the show for maybe half of the first season. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the first season at all. Getting into any comedy series usually takes me a handful of episodes. I hope it sticks for you.

Funniest scene in television history: the high speed helicopter chase in which Bubbles flips the vehicle the Boys are riding in and Julian emerges with a full glass of rum and coke. I almost died when I saw that scene for the first time.

Yeah, count me as someone who by far prefers TPB to IAS as well.

also on the Trailer Park Boys > It's Always Sunny Train.

i don't really find any character on Sunny particularly laugh-out-loud funny- Charlie is at times- and i don't find Devito funny at all, so.

Trailer Park Boys has so many good characters.

Personally I don't think the two can be compared at all. It's always sunny is hilarious but so is Trailer Park Boys. It's a very different style of humor though!

Season 1 Episode 1

its even funnier since his actor doesn't drink
Where did you hear that? I was at a stand up show him and Randy put on in Jasper Alberta at the staff party the Fairmont there put on for us about 10 years ago. My roomate bought a mickey of Jack Daniels and called Lahey out for faking it when he drank the mickey in the show (or movie cant remember). He held up the bottle and said "prove it!!". Lahey was like "give me that fuckin bottle you shit bird" and he took the bottle in front of the whole crowd and opened it and chugged the whole thing in front of everyone. He was fucking toast after that. My brother was the manager at the bar and had to drive Lahey back to his hotel room after. Then Randy smoked weed with us after the show.

Maybe he doesnt regularily drink but dude can drink lol.

Guys also make sure to check Swearnet.com and watch the first episode of Gettin learnt with Ricky. It's hilarious watching Ricky do crazy stuff.

I also found the roudtrip they take through Europe pretty damn funny.

It's not for everyone, that's for sure. I don't think it's really like Always Sunny at all (and that is my favorite television show).

I'd say around season 3 they start to hit a bit of a stride. Certain seasons are also hit or miss while others are very very good.

It's good all the way through it's original run. But it's not comparable to always sunny. TPB is more of a chill stoner comedy.
I can't stand the Netflix seasons though

I actually loved the first Netflix season. I mean, whoreageddon where Bubbles KittyLand B&B gets used for whores and he has a meltdown? That is as classic TPB as it gets. I think seasons that focus on Bubbles and his relationship with Ricky and Julian are the ones that really hit the high notes. The mix of Bubbles and his caring and hard working nature mixed with Julians scheming and Ricky's complete incompetence just really work well together and lead to some genuine hilarity and heartfelt moments.

On the topic of tpb, should I skip seasons 9 and 10? I loved first 7 (went through them in about 2 weeks), but didn't like 8 as much. I've heard seasons 9 and 10 get really bad, so should I just skip them and go straight to 11?

Edit: Btw I just want to add that this show might be easier for Canadians to get into. There are a lot of subtle jokes that I don't think I would have picked up if I hadn't lived in Canada all my life.

I enjoyed them, I believe more so than 8 but it all blurs together a bit. I recall thinking it wasn't up to the quality of the their best stuff, but still very worthwhile.

Perhaps i'll revisit them now.

10 is skip able its pretty bad. Netflix stuff is still funny but the early seasons are GOAT. I miss the shitty filming and ray

I wouldnt skip anything, they are all still good imho.

Easily top tier show.. prodiction quality doesn't match always sunny, but it's the same premise of folks doing crazy schemes

The way she goes.

Way of the road boys, way of the road

TPB is probably the most foul mouthed, heartfelt comedy show out there. I won't say anything bad about IAS, I think it's a fantastic show (from what I've seen) but I just love the cast of TPB. Lahey, Randy, Ricky, Julian, Bubbles, Ray, J-Roc, Trevor, Corey and even side characters like Sam 'fuckin Caveman' Losco and Cyrus crack me up.

Me too OP, the first season left me going "huh"? But after the first ep of season 2, you will be hooked. Season 4 is 10/10 good. Particularly the "Conky" episode. That one ALWAYS ropes in new TPB fans. Universally funny.

Edit: the ending of that episode is perhaps the cleverest bit of writing since The Wire. There, I said it.

The only seasons I don't like are the final non Netflix season and the tenth season, the one with the hotel/Snoop Dog. The first two Netflix seasons are incredible.
