When will it be realistic to buy a PS5?

I'm not going to buy a PS5 from a reseller. And I'm getting exhausted competing with bots online. So I've decided I won't buy a PS5 until I'm randomly in a target or walmart and see one in stock. I don't need one that bad.

When would that realistically be? Summer 2021? Spring 2022?

Hard to say, but I don't suspect it's gonna get easier no time soon with the 2021 lineup of software Sony has going.

Gamestop have store allocations. so check with them. managed to find an obscure branch with pre-order allocations on day1 of orders. it even had a few for walk ins on launch day.

People are at the acceptance stage, accepting that they probably won't get one so soon. Which means there will be less hysteria around getting one.

Should be fine by Q1 2021.

Honestly your aren't missing much. There are barely any games as of yet. Same with the new Microsoft consoles.

There may be sporadic stock at major retailers like Walmart or Best Buy. All you can do is sign up for notifications and be ready to order.

It sounds like the actual numbers of PS5 are quite a bit higher than PS4 over the same launch window. It also sounds like Sony is on track to continue releasing them at a higher number than past launches.

Video games, and especially PlayStation, are just at a higher demand than we've ever had. So, it's difficult to tell.

Why these companies feel it necessary to launch these consoles during the holidays, I'll never understand. That seems to only benefit scalpers.

In Korea all the retailers are doing online sales only at specific times and dates they announce. Needless to say, it's been a shitshow against bots. They've done 3 waves since release and each time they are gone from everywhere within 30 seconds.

A couple chains are doing a lottery where you can put your name in and they will choose who can buy, so that avoids the rush. However when they only have 300 available and more than 70,000 people put their name in, well, I might as well go play the real lottery!

Sales are done for the year with the current reservations being shipped out Christmas Eve. Rumors here say that the next round will be in February!!!! Hopefully that's not true, but we will see. I don't see PS5 being available in a store to randomly buy until next holiday to be honest.

just wait till november next year. The pro versions might come out and the base PS5 will be a lot cheaper plus more games to play.

I think it's smart to wait until 2021 (if you're in no rush). They'll have time to fix the system/controller issues and the catalog of games will grow.

Production is double what is was with PS4. I think it won't be too long but probably not before Xmas.

February or March hopefully.

You won't miss much but by 2022, you'll probably have more favorable chance of picking one up from your brick and mortar store during that time. I'll jump into next gen by that time and buy both. In the mean time, I have lots of games to play.

Probably Spring 2021. Ratchet will hit in February, plus whatever other surprises Sony has(GT7?)

Also, new year brings Taxmas(refund checks) and if there is somehow another Stimulus also, it could be close to Summer 2021 before it dies down.

Lockdowns and quarantine have also brought gaming a BIG boost, making even PS4s and Xbox One hard to find, not to mention the Switch, which I haven't seen one of those in a store in like...almost a year.

I bought one from Costco a few days ago. This one is for my nephew. I have bought 5 so far for family and friends.

If you really want one you have to try hard, but waiting is perfectly fine.

I assume you mean walk into a store and they haven't all sold in the first day?
May or June would be my guess.

If you were willing to put abit of effort searching online I'd guess March.

I bought DS digital deluxe editon. The Spiderman Ultimate edition that has MM and the original. Also bought a extra controller.

Still no damn console. :messenger_loudly_crying:

I have bid on PS5 on multiple auctions. I have bid as high as $850. Still have never won an auction! I am really restraining myself from bidding much higher than $800. But ya this is really testing my self restraint. :messenger_face_steam: If I could buy one now for $800 I would.

Its not that I can afford to bid higher. I just don't want to reward the scalpers too much! And I want the disc version. Also do not want to settle for the digital one. I need that disc version!

At this point I wish Sony would just temporarily increase the price until supply can catch up. Otherwise its just too rewarding to the scalpers.

You'll be able to get one early next year. As in, January/Feburary.

Do people seriously think that Sony's strategy will be 'make the product impossible to buy for the first six months'?

This is all hype building - particularly in the lead-up to Xmas. And, it's worked. People are foaming at the mouth with the need to buy one. If you think that they're going to be supply constrained beyond January 2021, I've got a bridge to sell you.

I assume early summer 2021.

Expecting to go in to a shop in early spring 2021 and find a PS5 in the shelf is just too optimistic.
The manufacturing numbers are not that much higher then the PS4, but the demand is. Therefore it will take longer until enough PS5 units are available to meet demand then it was with the PS4.

Here is a small video of the PS4 situation in the US in early March 2014: it was pretty much impossible to get a PS4 in any shop while XBox One was available everywhere. It will be worse for PS5

I managed to score a bundle from GameStop at the end of last month. Definitely keep Nowinstock going with alerts set to ON.

Probably around April. We got the hardcore craze until February and then tax checks so folk will probably try and get one then as well. It will probably slowly die down during March and it should pop up in stores normally by April is my theory.

I guess once the early adopter folk have had their fix (probably by buying from the scalpers), it'll get better. As much as I fucking hate scalpers, it's totally true that it takes two to tango. They only exist because there are people willing to pay stupid prices. I certainly wouldn't crazy prices for one, so I'm with you OP.

The lack of games to play exclusively on PS5 makes it even easier for me to wait. I don't really feel like I'm missing out on anything.
