I'm not going to buy a PS5 from a reseller. And I'm getting exhausted competing with bots online. So I've decided I won't buy a PS5 until I'm randomly in a target or walmart and see one in stock. I don't need one that bad.
When would that realistically be? Summer 2021? Spring 2022?
They'll be more widely available in the Spring and everywhere by Summer, when the bottom of the scalping market falls out.
Look at the bright side: you'll avoid most of the teething problems of launch. There's quite a few PS5 (and Xbox Series) owners who basically feel like beta testers right now. Most if not all of the wrinkles should be ironed out over the next 6-9 months and you'll enjoy a smoother experience with lower chance of console failure.
As an aside, altho I'm addicted to shiny new hardware, I'd be lying if I said I'm not looking forward to the PS5 Slim/revision far more than I expected. The launch model is a behemoth and I find myself going back n forth between whether I like the look or find it hideous and tacky. I'm leaning more towards the latter as it really looks out of place in my otherwise all black component entertainment center setup. It looks especially awkward layed horizontal so I'm really hopeful the revision improves the aesthetic.
Finally, consider that realistically the launch lineup is pretty spartan. Once you play Demons Souls, that's pretty much it. And even that is a remake of an 11 year old game. Miles Morales is on PS4. Sack Boy is meh. Astrobot is a controller demo, albeit cool demonstration of what could happen if devs use the vibration features. I personally find much more value in PS5 running older games in my PS4 backlog better. If you also have a lot of PS4 games you haven't played yet then this might be a better reason for you to get a PS5 than thinking about the slim launch lineup you're "missing out on". (for me, this goes double for the Xbox series, by the way...poor launch lineup but I have a massive backlog of Xbox games that are all "new to me" which play amazingly on the new consoles).
Anyway, I get it. I want the new stuff right away too. But for now you're not missing much. Next year by this time
there should be more new games to justify the purchase. I think you have the right attitude. If you chance on one then great snap it up. But I wouldn't go out of my way sitting outside stores or using stock trackers and hitting F5 for hours on end. Neither new console has enough new games to justify that kind of insanity. Try to be patient and look forward to owning a patched version with less problems in a few months.
