When will it be realistic to buy a PS5?

Depends on when Sony will let people just go inside and pick up their system. So I'm assuming people who don't have one will probably have a better chance around late spring/early summer.

Honestly your aren't missing much. There are barely any games as of yet. Same with the new Microsoft consoles.

There may be sporadic stock at major retailers like Walmart or Best Buy. All you can do is sign up for notifications and be ready to order.

I've come to realise you're right. Plus waiting may conveniently coincide with the 2021 tv's due.

I think March at the latest I read that Sony's factory is basically automated and requires very little workforce. Sony aren't wii era Nintendo and want to/and are capable of meeting demand imo.

I lucked out and found one at Wal-Mart while getting groceries. Your best bet for the next few months is just random luck walking into a store in person. Pick the slower Wal-Mart in your town if you have a couple. Maybe you'll get lucky. Otherwise, probably wont be steadily available online until Spring.

I would say summer, the pandemic, despite reducing incomes, has increased demand for electronic entertainment products.

Waiting isn't exactly a bad thing as you will be dealing with less console launch issues that can potentially happen.

Probably Spring next year if you are lucky and if you're unlucky maybe Summer 2021. Sony is seeing unprecedented demand for the PS5 so it's anybody's guess how long shortages will last.

I won't be buying one before March, it's pointless to pay more to resellers, we are not missing out on much. All the good games will come out at the end of 2021.

Store Sony rep mentioned Feb/Mar as a possible time when shipments becone normal again.

On that note WalMart is back to onlibe only since someone got stabbed Friday mprning in a WM but scalpers trying to get PS5s....

My guess is April? Zero stock in Chicago. I stopped even attempting to look. Same with Series X. Resellers seem to have more than actual gamers do

u can get one when u want, if ur just willing to buy these high priced bundles. As for normally sitting on shelves stocked constantly?? I wouldn't be surprised if we talking 2022

If there wasn't a pandemic raging at the moment, and we're back to normal times, I would say the beginning of Q2 2021 (April) will be a good time. But with rising cases of COVID-19 this winter, I can see production setbacks, so maybe not until the beginning of Q4 2021 (October).

That's only the one factory in Japan. In China the PS5 are still being assembled by hands.

When would that realistically be?

i did same with all previous consoles and i will do now same, ill buy it when it will have new next gen games not crossgen and games that interesting for me, so not 1 game , though i might buy it with 1 very good new game for many hrs to play like some racing like GT7 , i would take then console with that game, until then ill just play something on PC.

I think it's still gonna be a while. They're still selling out so so fast, because of bots or whatever else. I tried to grab one of the bundles gamestop had the other day and they were literally gone within seconds.

I think by late spring most of the people who are willing to pay a reseller will have already done so, and the demand will drop so it's not worth it for scalpers to keep buying up all the stock.

Why wouldn't it be? They've made enough profit (a couple of millions) to be able to buy every console that comes off the line.

Whenever the hell they come available to buy when you can go to Walmart at 11 PM and pick one up. That's when it's a good time to get one when both systems become more available.

Depends too on if you want digital, since sony doesn't actually make them. (Well maybe 3 per 100)

In Sweden - which is not a priority country on the Sony world-map you get a console in the next 2-3 weeks if you ordered just before the official release (so in October last year). To me that looks as if they are starting to catch-up with demand.

I already have a PS5 but had an extra pre-order to make sure to get one - this pre-order was made on October 5th and I can pick up that console this month (digital).

Had insane luck 3 weeks back when I F5'd the site of a small shop here just at the right time and then grabbed the disc version. Mates from work were trying to do the same but came a few seconds too late... The hunt is insane. Wish everyone here good luck for it.

There isn't really much to play on it yet but since the situation isn't likely to improve before the first real next gen games are released you may as well keep trying to snag one.

One thing I don't understand at this point, why don't retailers like best buy and ebgames take pre-orders, wouldn't this reduce the number of units scalpers would get thier hands on? Photo ID and $50 deposit required.

This method involves putting in some time + a bit of luck + some setup on your ends but -

If you go to sub reddit ps5restock all the info and links are there that will score you one sooner rather than later. It's info for US, Canada, EU I'm pretty sure.

I spent about two weeks there and scored two of them in 10 days. Once you get setup you don't need to monitor the sub anymore.

And of course nowinstock is only good for telling the history of drops. Looks like Gamestop dropped quite a few today.

Target, BB, Amazon, PS5 directs are the ones you want.

Yeah. Allowing people to back order them would instantly solve the problem. I'm honestly surprised that no one has done this considering it's a pretty simple solution to the problem.

The situation of the ones who did should explain it to you.

A few weeks back a shop in Germany got a shipment and allowed people to put themselves on a waitlist. IIRC they had to shut it down after 20 minutes or so because over 20.000 people signed up.

Just imagine following up on this amount of preorders... No wonder no one want to puts up with this and only sells what he gets.

That's why the wait list should be in person only, with deposit and ID. People are lazy, that list would probably shrink to a 1000.

IIRC Sony still only demands that PS5s are being only shipped online and not sold in person due to Corona. So not a chance for this happening anytime soon.
